  • In this paper free vibration analysis of symmetric and cross-ply elastic laminated shells based on FSDT was performed through discretization of equations of motion and boundary condition. Structural model of laminated composite cylindrical shells subjected to a combination of magnetic and thermal fields is developed via Hamilton's variational principle. These coupled equations of motion are based on the electromagnetic equations(Faraday, Ampere, Ohm, and Lorenz equations) and thermal equations which are involved in constitutive equations. Variations of dynamic characteristics of composite shells with applied magnetic field, temperature gradient, and stacking sequence are investigated and pertinent conclusions are derived.

  • A new frequency-modulated m-sequence correlation technique was described. It has. been seen that the frequency modulation scheme leads to higher signal-to-noise ratio than direct sequencing and less hardware effort than PSK modulation scheme. The operating frequency of the correlation system was deduced. The optimal frequency for the frequency-modulated m-sequence correlation system should be 1.35 times of the center frequency of the transducer. The application of this correlation technique to electromagnetic ultrasonic system was computer-simulated.

  • The nonlinear vibration of a cantilever beam due to electromagnetic force is studied. The dynamic responses of the beam show various phenomena with the variation of the system parameters, such as jump phenomenon, multiple solutions and the change of the natural frequency. The nonlinear stiffness due to electromagnetic forces which depends on air gap size is measured experimentally. This system was modeled by a single degree of freedom nonlinear dynamic system and solved numerically for the system parameters. The numerical results show good agreements with the experimental observations, which demonstrates the nonlinearity of magnetic force.

  • Structural model of laminated composite plates based on the first order shear deformable plate theory and subjected to a combination of magnetic and thermal fields is developed. Coupled equations of motion are derived via Hamilton's principle on the basis of electromagnetic equations (Faraday, Ampere, Ohm, and Lorenz equations) and thermal equations which are involved in constitutive equations. In order to obtain the implications of a number of geometrical and physical features of the model, one special case is investigated, that is, free vibration of a composite plate immersed in a transversal magnetic field. Special coupling effects between the magnetic and elastic fields are revealed in this paper.

  • This paper presents an electromagnetic kinetic energy harvester which is suitable for supplying power for body-worn sensors and personal electric devices. Human motions are investigated by measuring the acceleration signal at each points of the body during walking and running. The dynamic characteristics of the harvester can be calculated from the transfer function of the system. The transduction factor can be calculated from the electromagnetic field analysis by Maxwell software. The prototype of the harvester is designed and manufactured. The theoretical power characteristics are compared with the experiment results.

  • This paper proposes a spiral-shaped power island structure that can effectively suppress simultaneous switching noise (SSN) when the power plane drives high-speed integrated circuits in a small area. In addition, a new technique is presented which greatly improves the resonance peaks in a stopband by utilizing ${\lambda}$/4 open stubs on a conventional periodic electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) power plane. Both proposed structures are simulated numerically and experimentally verified using commercially available 3D electromagnetic field simulation software. The results demonstrate that they achieve better SSN suppression performance than conventional periodic EBG structures.

  • This paper presents a new power plane design method incorporating a single geometry derived from a unit cell of photonic bandgap(PBG) structure. This method yields constantly wide suppression of parallel plate resonances from 0.9 GHz to 4.2 GHz and is very efficient to eliminate PCB resonances in a specified frequency region to provide effective suppression of simultaneous switching noise(SSN). It is shown that with only two cells the propagation of unwanted high frequency signals is effectively suppressed, while it could provide continuous return signal path. The measured results agree very well with theoretically predicted ones, and confirm that proposed method is effective for reducing EMI, with measured near-field distribution. The proposed topology is suitable for design of high speed digital system.

  • In this paper, the design for a low noise amplifier with the EM simulation is presented. The ATF36077 pHEMT device is applied to design LNA for U-NII frequency band (5 GHz ~ 6 GHz). The matching networks have been designed by the only open ended stub in order to reduce parasitic effects generated from a via structure. Through EM simulator, the simulation result shows that the linear gain (@5.5 GHz) is over 10 dB, input return loss and output return loss (@ 5.5 GHz) are a below 10 dB respectively, and the 3rd order intercept point is about 17 dBm.
