Electrokinetic Process의 효율 향상을 위한 전극교환 방식과 혼합용매 적용 가능성 평가 (Applicability Evaluation of Electrodes Exchange and Mixed Solution for Enhanced Electrokinetic Process)

  • 본 연구는 electrokinetic process (EK process)를 이용하여 20000 mg/kg의 납(Pb)으로 오염된 토양을 처리하는 과정에서 중금속이 오염토양 내부에 수산화물 형태로 침전되는 현상을 억제할 수 있는 방법을 찾기 위하여 전극교환(EK-Exchange, EK-E)과 혼합용매(0.3 M acetic acid and 0.03 M EDTA, EK-Mixed Solution, EK-M)를 사용하는 방법을 적용하였다. 혼합용매를 사용하는 경우(EK-M)에는 EDTA 0.03 M을 단독으로 사용하는 경우(EK-Blank, EK-B)보다는 약 2% 정도 낮은 제거효율을 나타내었다. 그러나, 비싼 EDTA 약품 값을 절약할 수 있다는 측면에서 보면, 이 방법도 충분히 적용 가능한 방법이다. 전극교환을 하는 경우(EK-E)에는 EDTA 0.03 M을 사용하는 경우(EK-B)보다 2% 높은 제거효율을 나타내었다. 그러나 더욱 중요한 사항은 다른 운전조건(EK-B, EK-M)과는 달리 토양 내부의 pH가 7~8 사이로 중성 부근에서 유지되었다는 점이다. 특히, 중금속의 축적이 우려되는 EK-B와 EK-M과는 달리 중금속이 특정 부위(오염토양 중앙부 또는 음극부)에 축적되지 않는다는 장점을 나타내었다.

  • This study explored the feasibility of applying Electrokinetic-Fenton process(EK-Fenton process) to remediation of contaminant sorbed on the soil possessed low-permeability. The addition of 0.01 N H$_2$SO$_4$ in the anode reservoir for the $H_2O$$_2$stabilization improved the stabilization of $H_2O$$_2$and the treatment effect of phenanthrene across the entire soil specimen. The use of $H_2O$$_2$and dilute acid as anode purging solution is a promising method treating of HOCs in low-permeability subsurface environments.

염류집적 농경지 탈염을 위한 전기역학적 처리공정의 비용산출 (Cost Analysis of Electrokinetic Process for Desalination of Saline Agricultural Land)

  • In this study, cost analysis of electrokinetic (EK) restoration process for desalination of saline agricultural land was performed for field application based on a pilot scale field application. For reasonable cost analysis, EK process was classified into three major parts: system design, installation and operation. Cost of system installation consists of materials and installation for electrode/electric wire, power supply and data monitoring, drainage system, etc. Operation cost was calculated based on electrical consumption and water charges for EK process. Total cost for EK process was 2,943,013 won for $1000m^2$ in greenhouse area. Cost for system installation was 2,553,786 won, that is, 87% of total cost, while cost for system operation was 389,229 won, that is, 13% of total cost.

동전기법에 의한 폐 중금속광산 퇴적토 내의 비소제거 특성 (Removal Characteristics of Arsenic from Abandoned Metal Mining Tailings by Electrokinetic Technique)

  • Electrokinetic technique was considered in removing arsenic from the abandoned mining tails. In order to estimate the removal characteristics of arsenic, the sequential extraction analysis and desorption experiment were carried out prior to the application of electrokientic process. The result of sequential extraction analysis indicated that the water soluble and exchangeable fraction, easily leachable to ground water, were very low as much as about 2.5% and the fraction except residual (38.3%), possibly extractable under very acidic or alkalic environment, was about 59%. In the result of desorption test using four different kinds of electrolytes, the mixture of citric acid and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) showed the highest desorption efficiency as much as 77.3%. The removal efficiencies of arsenic from mining tailings by electrokinetic process under the different electrolyte environments were slightly low and resulted in the following order: citric acid + SDS (18.6%) > 0.1 $NHNO_3$ (8.1%) > HAc (7.4%) > Distilled water(6.6%). Also, arsenic in soil matrix was moved favorably in the direction of anodic rather than cathodic region, which is opposite trend with cationic metal ions generally existing in soil, because anionic form of arsenic is dominated in acidic soil caused by the movement of acid front form anode.

Cu, Pb, 및 Cd로 오염된 토양의 동전기적 방법에 의한 제거에 있어 중금속 종이 미치는 영향 (Effect of Heavy Metal Species on the Removal of Cu, Pb, and Cd Contaminated Soils Using Electrokinetic Process)

  • Three kinds of toxic heavy metals, such as lead, copper, and cadmium, existing abundantly in contaminated soils were selected to investigate pH change, electroosmotic flow, and the removal rate in the application of electrokinetic process. In the change of pHs, they reached to about 12 and 2 at each cathodic and anodic region, respectively, and maintained for reaction being proceeded. Electroosmotic flow rates were not influenced by the kind of metal species but by electropotential gradient. On the soils contaminated by each metal, the removal rate of Cd was the fastest among three as in the order of Cd>Pb>Cu. While on the soils contaminated by mixed metal species, Cu was the fastest. Metal species transported by electrokinetic processes were distributed in between 0.9 and 1.0 of normalized region. In the case of soils contaminated by one kind of metal. the relative concentrations of Pb and Cd estimated in between normalized region 0.9 and 1.0 were 5.2 and 5.7, respectively.

  • This research was conducted to investigate effects of acid buffering capacity and soil component in treatment of phenanthrene using electrokinetic-Fenton process. In Hadong clay of high acid buffering and low iron oxide content, it was difficult to oxidize phenanthrene due to shortage of iron catalyst and scavenger effect of carbonate minerals. The desorbed phenanthrene conductive to Fenton oxidation was transported toward cathode by electroosmotic flow. However, in Youngdong illitic clay, oxidation of phenanthrene near anode readily occurred compared to Hadong clay due to high iron content and low acid buffering capacity.

  • The concentration of hydrogen peroxide in soil and effluent was measured to understand the relationship between the profile of hydrogen peroxide and the removal efficiency of phenanthrene in an Electrokinetic-Fenton process. Electrokinetic phenomena were observed in two different conditions for 1, 2, 4, and 7 days; 3.5% and 10% hydrogen peroxide. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide in soil was high near the anode and decreased towards the cathode due to the direction of electroosmosis. The hydrogen peroxide concentration in effluent increased with time, but the value was lower than the initial. The removal efficiency of phenanthrene at 10% hydrogen peroxide was higher than the case at 3.5%. The removal efficiency after 7 days was high(> 97%) in both cases.

  • Restoration of contaminated soils to an environmentally acceptable condition is important. One of the newer techniques in soil remediation is a method based on electrokinetic phenomena in soils. The technology uses electricity to affect chemical concentrations and water flow through the pores of soils. An important advantage of electrokinetic soil remediation over other in-situ processes such as soil flushing is the capability of control over the movement of the contaminants. Because the migration of the contaminants is confined by the electric field, there is little dispersion outside the treatment zone. Furthermore, the process is effective for soils with low and variable permeability. In the present study, the distributions of cadmium in the electrokinetic processing of kaolinite under the condition of constant applied voltage are investigated. Cadmium accumulates near the cathode without reducing the diffusion of hydroxide ion into the soil. In keeping the catholyte pH at neutrality, cadmium migrates toward the cathode without any accumulation of cadmium near the cathode and is successfully removed at the cathode reservoir. It was also found that the progress of electrokinetic processing of cadmium could be gasped to a certain extent by monitoring the local voltage and the current density.

오염퇴적토에 대한 동전기적 침전 및 정화 공정에서의 시료 밀도 및 침하 변화 특성 (The Variation of Density and Settlement for Contaminated Sediments During Electrokinetic Sedimentation and Remediation Processes)

  • 본 논문에서는 유기물질로 오염된 퇴적토에서 동전기 침전 및 정화 기법을 이용하여 초연약한 퇴적토의 침하를 촉진시켜 밀도를 증진시키는 연구를 수행하였다. 본 논문에서는 인체에 무해한 에틸렌글리콜 유기물질을 일반수와 적정하게 섞은 오염수에 카오리나이트 점토를 혼합하여 함수비가 높은 슬러리 상태를 조성하여 만든 오염된 퇴적토를 시료로 사용하였다. 일반적으로 동전기기법을 이용한 전기영동 및 전기삼투에 의하여 슬러리내의 고형물 입자를 음극으로 이동시키고 간극수를 양극으로 배제시킬 수 있는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 오염된 퇴적토에 대하여 고형물함량, 공급전압 및 오염농도를 변화시키면서 동전기침전 및 동전기정화 시험을 연속적으로 동시에 수행하였으며 동전기침전 및 동전기정화 공정에서 발생한 시료의 침하 및 밀도 변화에 대하여 살펴보았다. 시험결과 오염퇴적토의 침하량은 공급전압이 클수록 고형물함량 및 오염농도가 작을수록 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 오염퇴적토의 밀도는 동전기 침전단계에서는 시료의 침하에 의하여 증가하고 동전기 정화단계에서는 물보다 무거운 유기물질의 유출에 의하여 감소하는 것으로 나타났다.

고전압 이용한 준설퇴적토 유효성 및 중금속 변화에 관한 연구 (Study of Effectiveness of using higher voltages in analysis of dredged sediments and heavy metal concentration)

  • The clay found in the river or in any waste water treatment plant usually have a very high content of water. A large amount of sediments hinder the navigation in river. In waste water treatment plant, there is requirement of settling the thick sludge. These problems are overcome by using rapid means of sedimentation and settling. This paper focus on how method of Electrokinetic sedimentation can be made faster. Sedimentation using Electrokinetic phenomenon has been discussed with varied voltage applied and effect and dose of coagulant in increasing the process. The experimental test has been carried out at water content that are generally present in the case of river and small canals carrying waste water. This paper also focus on different heavy metals concentration during the process and the power aspects of process. A series of experiment were done to support the proposed theory and how a bubble formation could hinder the purpose of experiment.
