A study on Electrical and Electromagnetic Properties for Driving the Ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamp (환형 무전극 형광램프 구동을 위한 전기적, 자기적 특성 분석)

  • In recent, there have been several developments in lamp technology that promise savings in electrical power consumption and improved quality of the lighting space. Above all, the advantage of ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamp is the removal of internal electrodes and heating filaments that are a light-limiting factor of conventional fluorescent lamps. The ring-shaped electrodeless lamp is intended as a high efficacy replacement for the incandescent reflector lamp in many applications. Therefore, the life time of ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamps is substantially higher than that of conventional fluorescent lamps and last up to 60,000 hours. In this paper, we present measurement results of electrical characteristics of a ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamp as a function of frequency and number of coil turns using a highly permeable Mn-Zn ferrite. It is found that the impedance are increased while the quality factor decreases as frequency increases.

Above all, the advantage of ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamp is the removal of internal electrodes and heating filaments that are a light-limiting factor of conventional fluorescent lamps. Therefore, the life time of ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamps is substantially higher than that of conventional fluorescent lamps and last up to 60,000 hours and is intended as a high efficacy replacement for the incandescent reflector lamp in many applications. In this paper, maxwell 3D finite element analysis program (Ansoft) was used to obtain electromagnetic properties associated with the coil and nearby structures. The electromagnetic emitting properties were presented by D simulation software operated at 250KHz and some specific conditions. Photometric characteristic of the ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamp were investigated using LS-100 lightmeter and TA-0510 thermometer respectively.

  • In Recent, it became necessary to develope the technology about electrodeless fluorescent lamp according to demand of the electodeless fluorescent lamp system that used higher efficiency and advantage of long-lifetime. Especially, in the electordeless fluorescent lamp which used H-mode, efficiency of lamp is decided from matching parameter of antena and inverter. So it is of the utmost importance to design antena and inverter Therefore, this paper used a transformer principle for efficiency rising of electrodeless fluorescent lamp and interpreted an equivalent circuit, used an impedance analyzer in order to confirm a performance enhancement of lamp along design of antenna, and confirmed parameter characteristic of R, L, C, Z, Q-factor along a change of magnetic flux density. Also, this paper confirmed a luminance characteristic of electordeless lamp along parameter change with measuring optical characteristic along a change of magnetic flux density

  • Driving the electrodeless fluorescent lamp, the high ac voltage with high frequency is required. The linear power amplifier has been widely used as a driving circuit of electrodeless fluorescent lamp. However, the low efficiency of the power amplifier causes the driving circuit to be replaced by a PWM switching inverter. In order to use a PWM switching inverter as the driving circuit of an electrodeless fluorescent lamp, the high switching frequency is required. But due to the switching loss at switches of the inverter, the limitation of high switching frequency appears in the inverter. One solution to this limitation is to reduce the switching loss by using the zero voltage switching technique. In this paper, zero voltage switching resonant inverter for driving an electrodeless fluorescent lamp is discussed. The results of analysis about the inverter are presented and the equations for design are established. And the validity of the analyzed results are verified through the experiment.

This paper gives a basic data of electrodeless fluorescent lamp 'Endura'(OSRAM SYLVANIA ICETRON/ENDURA 150W). The experimetal system consist of ENDURA 150W/840 Coolwhite lamp and ENDURA 150/200-240 S ballast.
