Coil spring steels from the automobile suspension part after field exposure for 10 years and those after anti-corrosion validation test in proving ground of 5,000 ~ 10,000 km were examined for corrosion damages. Partial loss of paint, accumulation of corrosion product, and cracking of paint and superficial material were observed. The surface and subsurface region of spring steels had compressive residual stress and high hardness by shot peening. The surface hardness values of the specimens were 620 ~ 670 Hv. They were 60 ~ 80 Hv higher than those of the samples taken from the middle part of the spring. The maximum compressive stress was -916 ~ -1208 MPa measured at depth of about $100{\mu}m$. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed that the resistances of charge transfer and the paint layer of the spring steels ranged from several tens to millions ${\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$. The resistance of the field samples was much higher than that of the proving ground samples used in this study, implying that the proving ground test condition would be more corrosive than the field environment.
Many kinds of alternative fuels such as biodiesel, ethanol, methanol, and natural gas have been developed in order to overcome the limited deposits in fossil fuels. In some cases, the alternative fuels have been reported to cause degrade materials. The corrosion rates of metals were measured by immersion test, a kind of time consuming test because low conductivity of these fuels was not allowed to employ electrochemical tests. With twin two-electrode cell newly designed for the study, however, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) test was successfully applied to evaluation of the corrosion resistance ($R_p$) of zinc, iron, aluminum, and its alloys in an oxidized biodiesel and gasoline/ethanol solutions and the corrosion resistance from EIS was compared with the corrosion rate from immersion test. In biodiesel, $R_p$ increased in the order of zinc, iron, and aluminum, which agreed with the corrosion resistance measured from immersion test. In addition, on aluminum showing the best corrosion resistance ($R_p$), the effect of magnesium as an alloying element was evaluated in gasoline/ethanol solutions as well as the oxidized biodiesel. $R_p$ increased with addition of magnesium in gasoline/ethanol solutions containing chloride and the oxidized biodiesel. In the mean while, in gasoline/ethanol solutions containing formic acid, Al-Mg alloy added 1% magnesium had the highest $R_p$ and the further addition of magnesium decreased $R_p$. It can be explained with the fact that the addition of more than 1% magnesium increases the passive current density of Al-Mg alloys.

The effect of drawing rate on the electrochemical properties of 3003 Al alloys in 5 wt.% NaCl solution was investigated by electrochemical techniques (potentiodynamic polarization test, potentiostatic polarization test, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)) and surface analyses (OM, SEM, EDS). Four kinds of automotive pipe materials were prepared (raw material, drawing rate = 5, 10, 15%). As the drawing rate of Al alloy tube increased, the pitting corrosion resistance increased due to the enrichment of Al oxides on the surface.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the corrosion protective properties of a Zn-Sn metal spray method according to the contents of Zn and Sn by a CASS test and the electrochemical theory. In the experiment, the CASS test and the electrochemical test were conducted to investigate the corrosion protective property of the Zn-Sn Metal Spray system, the Zinc galvanizing system, and the heavy duty coating system. As a result, it was confirmed that the Zn-Sn (65:35) Metal Spray system had very high corrosion protective property through the electrochemical characteristic as comparison with the other anti-corrosion systems and was very effective to prevent steel products from corrosion.

Metal containers represent a situation where a specific metal is exposed to a wide variety of electrolytes of varying degrees of corrosivity. For example, hundreds, if not thousands of different products are packaged in an aluminum beverage can. These products vary in pH, chloride concentration and other natural or artificial ingredients which can effect the type and severity of potential corrosion. Both localized (perforation) and uniform corrosion (metal dissolution without the onset of pitting) may occur in the can. A quick test or series of tests which could predict the propensity towards both types of corrosion would be useful to the manufacturer. Electrochemical noise data is used to detect the onset and continuation of pitting corrosion. Specific noise parameters such as the noise resistance (the potential noise divided by the current noise) have been used to both detect pitting corrosion and also to estimate the pitting severity. The utility of noise resistance and other electrochemical parameters has been explored through the application of artificial neural networks. The versatility of artificial neural networks is further demonstrated by combing electrochemical data with electrolyte properties such as pH and chloride concentration to predict both the severity of both localized and uniform corrosion.
The present paper describes an experimental study on the corrosive behaviour of Rolling stock structures. It is important to predict corrosive behaviour of rolling stock structures for safe service and to know relation between corrosion and fatigue life. This paper practiced electrochemical corrosion test of SS400 and SM490A. This study will examine the corrosive properties and differences of SS400 and SM490A from measuring corrosion potential and corrosion current density.
The smaller size and higher integration of advanced electronic package systems result in severe electrochemical reliability issues in microelectronic packaging due to higher electric field under high temperature and humidity conditions. Under these harsh conditions, electronic components respond to applied voltages by electrochemical ionization of metal and the formation of a filament, which leads to short-circuit failure of an electronic component, which is termed electrochemical migration. This work aims to evaluate electrochemical migration susceptibility of the pure Sn, Sn-3.5Ag, Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu solder alloys in $Na_{2}SO_{4}$. The water drop test was performed to understand the failure mechanism in a pad patterned solder alloy. The polarization test and anodic dissolution test were performed, and ionic species and concentration were analyzed. Ag and Cu additions increased the time to failure of Pb-free solder in 0.001 wt% $Na_{2}SO_{4}$ solution at room temperature and the dendrite was mainly composed of Sn regardless of the solders. In the case of SnAg solders, when Ag and Cu added to the solders, Ag and Cu improved the passivation behavior and pitting corrosion resistance and formed inert intermetallic compounds and thus the dissolution of Ag and Cu was suppressed; only Sn was dissolved. If ionic species is mainly Sn ion, dissolution content than cathodic deposition efficiency will affect the composition of the dendrite. Therefore, Ag and Cu additions improve the electrochemical migration resistance of SnAg and SnAgCu solders.

In this study, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to examine the changes in the electrochemical properties of biodegradable pure magnesium implanted into Sprague-Dawley rats for three days. The in vivo test results were compared with those of the in vitro tests carried out in Hank's, dilute saline and simulated body fluid (SBF) solutions. The in vitro corrosion rates were 20~1700 fold higher, as compared to the in vivo corrosion rates. This discrepancy is caused by biomolecule adsorption on the surface, which prevents the transport of water into the magnesium surface on in vivo testing. Among the in vitro experimental conditions, the corrosion rate in SBF solution had the least difference from the in vivo implanted specimen.
This paper was studied on the corrosion and corrosion-wear behavior of chromium (Cr) plating in the acidic environments. In the various pH of acidic solutions, the electrochemical polarization test and wear-corrosion test of Cr plating were carried out. And thus potential, corrosion current density and corrosion-wear loss behaviour of Cr plating are investigated.
The corrosion behavior of stainless steel 304 (SS 304), titanium, nickel and aluminium is studied by immersion and anodic polarization tests in non-aqueous electrolytes. Tetraethyl ammonium tetrafluoroborate is used as a supporting electrolyte in the three kinds of solvents. The immersion test shows that chemical corrosion rate in propylene carbonate-based electrolyte is lower than those in acetonitrile- or ${\gamma}$-butyrolactone-based electrolytes. Surface analyses do not reveal any corrosion product formed after the immersion test. In the anodic polarization tests, a higher concentration of supporting electrolyte gives a higher current density. In addition, a higher temperature increases the current density in the active region and reduces the potential range in the passive region. SS 304 shows the highest corrosion potential while Al shows the lowest corrosion potential and the highest current density in all studied conditions. Based on the conducted corrosion tests, the corrosion resistance of metal substrates in the organic solvents can be sorted in descending order as follows: SS 304 - Ti - Ni - Al.
