In this study, CuO was introduced on MWCNTs dispersed with Au nanoparticles to improve the glucose sensing capability of electrochemical biosensors. Nano-cluster shaped CuO was synthesized due to the presence of Au nanoparticle, which affects glucose sensing performance. The biosensor featuring CuO/Au@MWCNTs nanocomposite as an electrode material when 0.1 mole of CuO was synthesized showed the highest sensitivity of $504.1{\mu}A\;mM^{-1}cm^{-2}$, which is 4 times better than that of MWCNTs based biosensors. In addition, it shows a wider linear range from 0 to 10 mM and lower limit of detection (LOD) of 0.008 mM. These results demonstrate that CuO/Au@MWCNTs nanocomposite sensors are superior to other CuO based biosensors which are attributed that the nano-cluster shaped CuO is favorable for the electrochemical reaction with glucose molecules.

In this paper, the electrochemical non-enzyme immunosensor has been developed for the determination of salmonella antigen, using inverse voltammetry. For the estimation of salmonella antigen concentration, the $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles synthesized by microemulsion method were conjugated with salmonella antigen. Then, the immunocomplex between antibody immobilized on the transducer surface and antigen containing a magnetic nanoparticles was formed. From the linear relationship between the reduction peak current of Fe(III) and salmonella antigen concentration, it is suggested that the electrochemical non-enzyme biosensor is applicable to detect salmonella antigen in the concentration range of $10^1-10^5$ CFU/ml.
An enzyme electrode bound by butyl rubber was newly constructed for the determination of hydrogen peroxide and for the practical application as a biosensor. Then its electrochemical properties were investigated. It produced a hundreds-fold increased signal compared to the plant or animal tissue based biosensor studied previously and could be run at between $0.0{\sim}-1.00\;V$(vs. Ag/AgCl). The relationship between signal and electrode potential was linear in the experimental range of potential. It showed a detection limit of $3.0{\times}10^{-4}\;M$ and a very good linearity of Lineweaver-Burk plot giving the proof of a good enzyme immobilization. Especially, both the reproducibility of signal current due to its high sensitivity and mechanical stability presented a new possibility for the practical use of biosensor bound with butyl rubber.
An amperometric glucose biosensor has been developed using viologen derivatives as electron mediator of glucose oxidase (GOD) at Au electrode. Highly stable self assembled monolayer (SAM) of thiol-based viologen is immobilized onto the Au electrode followed byGOD is immobilized onto the viologen modified electrode. This biosensor response to glucose was evaluated amperometrically in the potential of -300 mV. Upon immobilization of glucose oxidase onto the viologen modified-electrode, the biosensor showed rapid response towards glucose. Experimental conditions influencing the biosensor performance such as, pH, potential were optimized and assessed. This biosensor offered an excellent electrochemical response for glucose concentration below ${\mu}mol$ level with high sensitivity and selectivity and short response time. The levels of the RSD's (< 5 %) for the entire analyses reflected the highly reproducible sensor performance. Using the optimized a linear relationship between current and glucose concentration was obtained up to $4.5{\times}10^{-4}$ M. In addition, this biosensor showed well reproducibility and stability.
An HRP immobilized carbon paste electrode, which was bound by EPDM, was newly fabricated and its electrochemical properties were investigated for the purpose of validating the new possibility for the practical use of biosensor. In the experimental range of substrate concentration, Lineweaver-Burk plot of the signal showed a good linearity. This means that HRP was embedded effectively to preserve its identity in the bulk of composite electrode materials and EPDM is a recommendatory binder. When the electrode was run at low operating potential($0.0\sim-1.0$ V vs. Ag/AgCl), it showed a high sensitivity and a good reproducibility. Especially the mechanical stability of the dried rubber was a remarkable breakthrough to get over a difficulty in putting the carbon-paste electrode bound with silicon oil to real use.
The planar-type amperometric creatinine biosensor employing an additional enzyme layer containing creatine kinase and adenosine triphosphate was developed to eliminate severe interference from creatine. In the additional enzyme layer, an interfering substance, creatine is converted to noninterfering product, phosphocreatine. Furthermore, the carbon electrode electroplated with Pt black(Pt-B) was employed to fabricate creatinine biosensors with improved sensor performance(e.g., sensitivity, reliability, and reproducibility). The creatinine levels in an unknown sample were determined within less than 5% errors using creatinine microsensors equipped in a flow-cell cartridge.
A mugwort-tissue-based modified carbon paste electrode was constructed for the amperometric detection of hydrogen peroxide and its electrochemical properties are described. Especially the amperometric signal was very stable and bigger than any other enzyme electrode studied in this lab. The effect of tissue composition on the response was linear within the wide range of experiment and the linearity of Lineweaver-Burk plot showed that the sensing process of the biosensor is by enzymatic catalysis. And pH dependent current profile connoted that two isozymes are active in this system.
A carbon paste electrode was constructed with peroxidase extracted from Horseradish and the variation of the response of the sensor with pH was investigated. Current profiles showed two highest sensitivities at two pH values respectively. In addition, two bands were observed in the electrophoretic expansion. A coincidence of the two experimental results added support to the possibility that the biosensor has two different isozymes. Assuming that current profiles are the sum of two gaussians, we deconvoluted them and determined the optimum pH of peroxidase isozymes.
When rubber dissolved in toluene was used as a binding material of graphite powder, the mechanical robustness of the carbon paste was guaranteed by the fast volatility of the solvent immediately after electrode construction. This characteristic of the rubber solution met qualifications for practical use of carbon paste electrodes and enabled the design of a new enzyme electrode bound with EPDM. In order to confirm whether the electrode shows quantitative electrochemical behaviors or not, its kinetic parameters, e. g. the symmetry factor (0.2), the exchange current density ($3.66\;{\mu}A/cm^2$), the capacity of the double layer ($2.0{\times}10^{-5}\;F$), the Michaelis constant ($4.39{\times}10^{-3}\;M$), the diffusion coefficient of substrate ($2.58{\times}10^{-12}\;cm^2/sec$), the time constant (0.018 sec) and other factors were investigated.
A superoxide dismutase (SOD)-based superoxide ion $(O_2^-)$ sensor was fabricated by immobilizing SOD on a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) which was prepared on a gold electrode. The SAM of MPA was found to function as an effective promoter for the electrode reaction of SOD. The amperometric response to $(O_2^-)$ was monitored at 300mV and -100mV vs. Ag/ Agel in 5mM phosphate buffer solution containing $KO_2$. The sensor was proved to have a high sensitivity, selectivity and short response time (<5 s) and negligible interference.
