As a device for taste sensation, an 8-channel taste evaluation system was prepared and applied for discriminant analysis of marketed liquor. The biomimetic polymer membranes for the system were prepared through a casting procedure by employing polyvinyl chloride, bis (2-ethylhexyl)sebacate as plasticizer and electroactive materials such as valinomycin in the ratio of 33:66:1, and were separately attached over the sensitive area of ion-selective electrodes to construct the corresponding taste sensor array. The sensor array in conjunction with a double junction reference electrode was connected to a high-input impedance amplifier and the amplified sensor signals were interfaced to a personal computer via an A/D converter. When the signal data from the sensor array for 3 groups of marketed liquor like Maesilju, Soju and beer were analyzed by principal component analysis after normalization, it was observed that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd principal component were responsible for most of the total data variance, and the analyzed liquor samples were discriminated well in 2 dimensional principal component planes composed of the 1st-2nd and the 1st-3rd principal component.
Devices based on nanomaterials platforms are emerging as a powerful tool for ultrasensitive sensors for the direct detection of biological and chemical species. In this talk, we will report the preparation and the full characterization of electrochemical polymerization of biopolymers platforms and nano-structure formation for electrochemical detection of enzymatic activity and toxic compound in electrolyte for biosensor applications. Formation of an electroactive polymer film of two different compounds has been quantified by observing new redox peak at higher potentials in cyclic voltammogram measurements. RCT value of at various biopolymer concentration based hybrid films has been obtained from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis and possible mechanism for formation of complexes during electrochemical polymerization on conducting substrates has been investigated. Biosensors developed based on these hybrid biopolymers have very high sensitivity.
Ionic Polymer Metal Composite (IPMC) is an electroactive polymer (EAP) and a promising candidate actuator for various potential applications mainly due to its flexible, low voltage/power requirements, small and compact design, and lack of moving parts. Although widely used in industry, this material requires accurate numerical models and knowledge of optimal control methods. This paper presents State-Dependent Riccati Equation (SDRE) approach as one of rapidly emerging methodologies for designing nonlinear controllers. Additionally, the present paper describes a novel method of Multi HGO Observer design. In the proposed design, the calculated position of the IPMC strip accurately tracks the target position, which is illustrated by the experiments. Numerical results and comparison with experimental data are presented and the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified in experiments.
Ionic-polymer-metal-composite(IPMC), one of new actuation materials of electroactive polymers plated with noble metallic electrodes is known for the fast bending upon electric field. The IPMC strip bends towards anode under electrical field. It has many merits of low driving voltage, quick responsiveness, high durability, possibility of miniaturizability. In this paper, we studied for developing the large deflection of IPMC according several fabricating parameters. We measured the large deflection by the different process of sandpaper and sandblasting in surface treatment, the initial compositing process and the surface electroding process, and the different counter ions in ion exchanging process. In fundamental, the displacement of IPMC strip depends on voltage magnitude and applied signal frequency and its maximum deformation is observed at a critical frequency, resonant frequency.
A interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogel, composed of chitosan (CS) and poly(diallydimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC) was prepared, which exhibited electrical sensitive behavior. The swelling behavior of the CS/PDADMAC SIPN hydrogel was studied by immersion of the gel into various pH buffer solutions, and their stimuli response in electric fields also investigated. In order to clarify the relationship between the equilibrium swelling ratio and bending behavior of the SIPN hydrogels, the state of water in the SIPN hydrogel was also investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

Novel molecular glassy POSS-based material having carbazole moiety as a photo- and electroactive group was synthesized, and its thermal, morphological, electrochemical, and optical properties were investigated. POSS having carbazole (POSS-Cz) was found to form easily amorphous glassy film by cooling the melt sample or by spin coasting onto glass substrate. POSS-Cz showed monomeric emission even in solid film, which suggests that carbazole moiety can be isolated even in solid state.
Many different polymeric materials are introduced fur the alternative solutions of electro-mechanical actuators. Although light weight and grate flexibility of the material deserves notable attention from enormous publications, few of the publication has discussed feasibility study for actual industrial applications. Most of the previous work demonstrated plain movement of the material without delineating any design concept that guarantees 'controllable action'. The present work introduces a noble design concept that provides controllable action and the concept is verified through a modeling and a simulation of the actuation method.
The Ionic Polymer Metal Composite (IPMC) is one of the electroactive polymer (EAP) have potential application as micro actuators. In this study, IPMC is used as actuator to control of the direction for the endscopic microcapsule. Because it bends in water and wet conditions by applying a low voltage $(1\sim3\;V)$ to its surfaces. The basic characteristics and the static modeling of IPMC are discussed. Also the dynamic modeling is performed using the Lagrange' equation. Computer simulation results show that the performed modeling guarantee similarity of actual system.

The current study fabricated magnetic functional reduced graphene oxide (MFRGO) by relying on ${FeCl_4}^-$ magnetic anion confined to cationic 1-methyl imidazolium. Furthermore, for improving the electrochemical performance of conductive polymer, hybrid poly ortho aminophenol (POAP)/ MFRGO films have then been fabricated by POAP electropolymerization in the presence of MFRGO nanorods as active electrodes for electrochemical supercapacitors. Surface and electrochemical analyses have been used for characterization of MFRGO and POAP/ MFRGO composite films. Different electrochemical methods including galvanostatic charge discharge experiments, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy have been applied to study the system performance. Prepared composite film exhibited a significantly high specific capacity, high rate capability and excellent cycling stability (capacitance retention of ~91% even after 1000 cycles). These results suggest that electrosynthesized composite films are a promising electrode material for energy storage applications in high-performance pseudocapacitors.
