  • In this paper we analyze the reflection characteristics of a dielectric microstrip line with an open-end termination containing optically induced plasma region, which are analyzed by the assumption that the plasma is distributed homogeneously in the laser illumination. The characteristics impedances resulting from the presence of plasma are evaluated the transmission line model. To estimate theoretically the characteristic response of same systems in the time domain, the Fourier transformation method is evaluated. The reflection characteristics of time response in microwave systems have been calculated.

  • This paper proposes an impulse response shortening algorithm applicable to decision feedback equalization of single carrier wideband signal. When he impulse response shortening methods for narrowband signaling are applied to single carrier wideband signals, they result in noise enhancement problem, significantly deterioriting the receiver performance. This problem can be alleviated by educing the eigenvalue spread ratio of the impulse response, which can be achieved by adding additive white noise with small variance to the impulse response of the channel. The performance of the proposed scheme is verified by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, modeling of the non-ideal frequency response, especially "notch-and-spike" magnitude phenomenon and phase lag distortion, are discussed. To characterize the non-ideal frequency response, a new electro-mechanical simulation model based on SPICE is proposed using the driving loop of the capacitive vibratory gyroscope. The parasitic components of the driving loop are found to be the major factors of non-ideal frequency response, and it is verified with the measurement results.

  • Recently as the inactive response characteristics of the existing RCD used on low voltage power distribution system, so control of overload and electric short circuit faults, major causes of electrical fires, are not enough. Therefore, this paper confirms the unreliability of the existing RCD by electrical fault simulator and proposes a EFDPD by using semiconductor switching devices and a high precision current sensor (namely, reed switch) for the prevention of electrical disasters in low voltage power distribution system caused by overload or electric short circuit faults. The sensitive reed switch in the proposed EFDPD exactly detects the increased magnetic flux with the overload or the short current caused by a number of electrical faults, and the following, the self circuit breaker in EFDPD rapidly cuts off the system. The proposed EFDPD confirms the excellent characteristics in response velocity and accuracy in comparison with the conventional circuit breaker through various operation performance analysis. The proposed EFDPD can also prevent electrical disasters, like as electrical fires, which resulted from the malfunction and inactive response characteristics of the existing RCD.

  • Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (IPMSMs) with rare earth magnet are widely used in electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles. IPMSMs having high efficiency, high torque, and a wide speed range are employed in propulsion system. And the rotor in an IPMSM is generally made of a rare earth magnet to achieve a large energy product and high torque. This paper discusses issues regarding design and performance of IPMSMs using different factors of BH magnetic characteristic. It is necessary to choose factors of magnetic material according to permanent magnet shape in rotor for high performance. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is selected to obtain factors of magnetic material according to variety of rotor shapes. The RSM is a collection of mathematical and statistical techniques useful for the analysis of problems in which a response of interest in influenced by several variables and the objective is to optimize response. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the torque characteristics of an IPMSM having magnet BH hysteresis curve with different rotor shape. Factors of residual flux density (Br) factor and intrinsic coercive force (Hc) are important parameters in RSM for rotor shape. The rotor shapes for IPMSMs having magnet BH characteristic were investigated using the RSM, and three shapes were analyzed in detail using FEA. The results lead to design consequence of IPMSMs in the various rare earth magnet materials.

  • Dam jerk causes a chronic stomach disorder. The number of the patient of the Dam jerk increase in these days. However, there are no objective and quantitative study for a diagnosis of Dam jerk. Therefore, we designed diagnosis system using ultrasonic response signal for a diagnosis of Dam jerk. It was used to collect the response signal that is reflected at Dam jerk region of the abdominal. And then, the response signal at the Dam jerk region is 20% higher than the normal region. In the result. we could prove the reliability of the system.

  • This paper proposes a new concept of optimal governor-response power flow (OGPF) to obtain an optimal set of control parameters when the systems are in mid-term conditions after disturbances, ignoring the system dynamics. The idea of GOPF simply comes from the attempt to find an optimal solution of the governor-response power flow (GPF), which is a pre-exiting tool that is used to get power flow solutions that would exist several seconds after an event is applied. GPF incorporates the simplified model of governors in the systems into the power flow equations. This paper explains the concept of OGPF and depicts the OGPF formulation and application of a nonlinear interior point method as the solution technique. Also, this paper includes an example with New England 39-bus test system to illustrate the effectiveness of GOPF.

  • This study investigated the relationship between the response time of DVR (Dynamic Voltage Restorer) and the possible compensation range for voltage dips by the DVR system which protects the 3-phase phase-controlled rectifier from said dips. As a result, the permissible range of voltage dip is presented in a 3-phase phase-controlled rectifier. When the DVR compensates for voltage dip, the range of voltage dip can be compensated according to the DVR's response time. Using the proposed method, DVR response time can be determined from the parameters of the 3-phase phase-controlled rectifier and the possible compensatory range of voltage dip, while at the same time it is possible to use a control system having an appropriate speed. Therefore, the use of excessively fast equipment can be avoided, improving the stability of the overall system. The reliability of the DVR concerning the 3-phase phase-controlled rectifier can be verified by simulation.

  • In this paper, SOA Current and Temperature Driver which consisted of LabVIEW programming part capable of current and temperature transient response pattern design, DAQ module for analog voltage in&out, and voltage to current converting chips has realized. The output current(possible to 3A) from the Driver to SOA was clearly constant without ripple and also showed no variance until 1mA unit for a long time operation. The temperature of TEC took several seconds to reach a set temperature, and were maintained stably within ${\pm}^0.1{\circ}C$ for several hours. The proposed Driver can replace the previous high cost SOA Drivers for wavelength swept lasers fully and provides the convenience of transient response design capability for current and temperature.

  • Demand Response is a well-known means usually operated by the system operator(SO) or the electricity retailers in order to reduce the peak loads or cut the price in electricity market. KPX(Korea Power eXchange), the SO in Korea has been operating the demand bidding program(or the demand resource market) since it was firstly introduced as the pilot project in 2008. The results has proved to be effective to enhance demand response. This paper describes the basic concepts and the operation results of the program.
