  • Depth error correction effect for maladjusted stereo cameras with calibrated pixel distance parameter is presented. The camera calibration is a necessary procedure for stereo vision-based depth computation. Intra and extra parameters should be obtain to determine the relation between image and world coordination through experiment. One difficulty is in camera alignment for parallel installation: placing two CCD arrays in a plane. No effective methods for such alignment have been presented before. Some amount of depth error caused from such non-parallel installation of cameras is inevitable. If the pixel distance parameter which is one of intra parameter is calibrated with known points, such error can be compensated in some amount. Such error compensation effect with the calibrated pixel distance parameter is demonstrated with various experimental results.

  • This paper presents a sensorless control and parameter estimation strategies for a Transverse Flux Rotating Motor (TFRM). The proposed sensorless control method is based on a Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS) to estimate the stator flux. Parameter estimation theory is also applied into the sensorless control method to estimate motor parameters, such as inductances. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is verified by some simulations and experiments.

  • This paper describes the parameter convergence property for an adaptive identifier and deals with the stability of the adaptive system in terms of the general error model. The Persistent Excitation (PE) condition to guarantee parameter convergence is derived using the Power Spectrum Analysis. In the adaptive identifier designed under the assumptions that the plant has not unmodelled dynamics, it can be shown that the equilibrium points of adjustable parameters are independent on the position or the number of input spectrums, if the adaptive signal is PE. When the plant contains unmodelled dynamics and the same controller is used, the PE condition can still hold but the parameter tuned values are changed with the spectrum.

  • This paper describes the efforts to develope a PC based parameter identification system for D.C servomotors. A new identification algorithm for the D.C. servomotor parameters is developed. The algorithm is implemented on 16 bit IBM-PC/XT using the C language. The whole identification process of signal generation, measuring and parameter determination is fully automated. To minimize the errors due to the ripple component in the measured armature currents, digital averaging filter is employed. The proposed parameter correction method using the deadzone current and the time to reach the peak current resulted in excellent agreement between the measured current and the current estimated using the model.

  • This paper deals with the maneuver detection and target tracking problem in uncertain parameter systems using a robust{{{{ { H}_{ } }}}} FIR filter to improve the unacceptable tracking performance due to the parametr uncertainty. The tracking filter used in the current paper is based on the robust{{{{ { H}_{ } }}}} FIR filter proposed by Kwon et al. [1,2] to estimate the state signal in uncertain systems with parameter uncertainty, and the basic scheme of the proposed method is the input estimation approach. Tracking performance of the maneuver detection and target tracking method proposed is compared with other techniques, Bogler allgorithm [4] and FIR tracking filter [2], via some simulations to examplify the good tracking performance of the proposed method over other techniques.

  • In power system study, relibility assessment has been an important topic during past several decards because sudden power interruption can bring about enormous economic loss. although the size of a substation is smaller than that of generation system or transmission system, switching actions after fault(s) make reliability assessment of substation rather complex situations such as switching actions easily and permit various probability distributions in describing substation elements. Despite this ability of Monte Carlo simulation, one-parameter exponential distribution is still popular in this reliability assessment. This paper examines the characteristics of several two-parameter probability distributions, and offers new parameter decision rule based on average and variance of the target to be modelled. In case study, this paper shows the profits by using Weibull distribution which is one of two-parameter probabilistic distributions instead of exponential one.

  • The robust control technique is generally the iterative design method to determine a robust control for perturbed system with prescribed range of perturbation based on the robust stability measure. However, robot manipulator has the structured pertubation and the unstructured one. This paper proposes the robust technique for designing controller such that the trajectory of end-effector of robot manipulator tracks asymptotically the desired trajectory for all allowable variations in the manipulator's parameter. For satisfying asymptotical stability though we can not know the bound of perturbations and the parameter variations, the relation between the unknown parameter and the parameter of nominal system can be derived from Krasovskii theorem and we construct the new robust control using that relation. • Dead time is typically incorporated in voltage source inverter systems to prevent short circuit cases. However, dead time causes an error between the output voltage and reference voltage. Hence, voltage equation-based algorithms, such as motor parameter estimation and back electromotive force (EMF)-based sensorless algorithms, are prone to estimation errors. Several dead-time compensation methods have been developed to reduce output voltage errors. However, voltage errors are still common in zero current crossing areas, and an effect of the error is much worse in a low speed region. Therefore, employing voltage equation-based algorithms in low speed regions is difficult. This study analyzes the conventional dead-time compensation method and output voltage errors in low speed operation areas. A current shaping method that can reduce output voltage errors is also proposed. Experimental results prove that the proposed method reduces voltage errors and improves the accuracy of the parameter estimation method and the performance of the back EMF-based sensorless algorithm.

  • This paper presents a DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) based estimation algorithm for the parameters of a low-frequency oscillating signal. The proposed method estimates the parameters, i.e., the frequency, the damping factor, the mode amplitude, and the phase, by fitting a discrete Fourier spectrum with an exponentially damped cosine function. Parameter estimation algorithms that consider the spectrum leakage of the discrete Fourier spectrum are introduced. The multi-domain mode test functions are tested in order to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed algorithms are highly applicable to the practical computation of low-frequency parameter estimations based on DFTs.

  • Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is necessary for photovoltaic (PV) power system application to extract the maximum possible power under changing irradiation and temperature conditions. The β-parameter-based method has many advantages over conventional MPPT methods; such advantages include fast tracking speed in the transient stage, small oscillations in the steady state, and moderate implementation complexity. However, a problem in the implementation of the conventional beta method is the choice of an appropriate scaling factor N, which greatly affects both the steady-state and transient performance. Therefore, this paper proposes a modified β-parameter-based method, and the determination of the N is discussed in detail. The study shows that the choice of the scaling factor N is determined by the changes of the value of β during changes in irradiation or temperature. The proposed method can respond accurately and quickly during changes in irradiation or temperature. To verify the proposed method, a photovoltaic power system with MPPT function was built in Matlab/Simulink, and an experimental prototype was constructed with a solar array emulator and dSPACE. Simulation and experimental results are illustrated to show the advantages of the improved β-parameter-based method with the optimized scaling factor.
