  • This paper proposed a program of an energy storage system(ESS) for peak shaving of high-speed railway substations The peak shaving saves cost of equipment and demand cost of the substation. To reduce the peak load, it is very important to know when the peak load appears. The past data based load profile forecasting method is easy and applicable to customers which have relatively fixed load profiles. And an optimal scheduling method of the ESS is helpful in reducing the electricity tariff and shaving the peak load efficiently. Based on these techniques, MS. NET based peak shaving program is developed. In case study, a specific daily load profile of the local substation was applied and simulated to verify performance of the proposed program.

  • The paper proposed a sizing method of an energy storage system(ESS) for peak shaving of high-speed railway substations based on load profile patterns of substations. A lithium based battery ESS was selected since it can produce high-power at high speed that peak shaving requires, and also takes up a relatively smaller space for installation. Adequate size of the ESS, minimum capacity which can technically meet a peak shaving target, was determined by collectively considering load patterns of a target substation, characteristics of the ESS to be installed, and optimal scheduling of the ESS. In case study, a local substation was considered to demonstrate the proposed sizing method. Also economic analysis with the determined size of ESS was performed to calculate electricity cost savings of the peak shaving ESS, and to offer pay-back period and return on investment.

  • Distributed generation (DG) is predicted to play an increasing role in the electric power system of the near future. Distributed generation is by definition that is of limited size (roughly 10MW or less) and interconnected at the substation, distribution feeder or customer load levels. The effects of generation sources within a distribution network on the system losses are investigated in this paper. WLAV state estimation is performed with the composite distribution system containing DG. Simulations with test cases are performed and the results are presented, using IEEE34 bus radial distribution system.

  • This paper presents the countermeasure to present the main transformer of distribution substation from deteriorating and failing due to repeated magnetic force of the transformer winding by ground fault current in 22.9kV multi grounded distribution system. The Winding strength to the short circuit current is designed to be endurable to the stress of over current. But this design is related to the manufactures. In this paper we examine the application of shunt reactor to the neutral point of the low side of the transformer to reduce fault current due to the fault in the distribution lines we have analysed the fault characteristics of the system and calculated the optimum ohmic values of the neutral reactor.

  • KORAIL is one of the biggest consumer in electric power market so it is necessary to investigate power consumption pattern and optimize power rates. This paper presents simulation program for electric power rates define program based on billing system database. Base on the substation annual power usage DB data, the characteristic of the substation power consumption are investigated and effective electrical billing system are compared each other. Through this program it is verified that we can save more then several hundred million won for a year. Also electric train air condition power consumption was measured to figure the method how to reduce peak energy consumption.

This paper deals with power system analysis and Transmission line and substation design of approximately 750 kilometers of the 225 kV single circuit transmission lines and six substations. The main contents of the power system analysis results and preliminary engineering design include power flow, transient stability, eigenvalue analysis, transmission line design, substation design and economic analysis.

  • This paper analyzed catenary impedance characteristics of relays installed in substation and sectioning post to protect power feeding circuit in the extended power feeding conditions. For this, we modelled AT feeding system using PSCAD/EMTDC and calculated catenary impedance. The relay installed in substation calculated catenary impedance of the extended power feeding area adding catenary impedance of self protection zone. But, the relay installed in sectioning post calculated catenary impedance of the only protection area. Therefore, we confirmed that the more reliable protection way can be utilized using the relay installed in sectioning post.

  • The surge arrester plays a vital role in the protection of substation against transient overvoltages resulting from lightning surges and system switching operations. The proper selection and application of the surge arrester is an integral part of the process of substation equipment insulation level selection. The paper outlines the basic consideration in modeling the lightning stroke, the surge arrester, and the system to be protected. The paper discusses the results of various cases simulated using the alternative transient computer program to evaluate the separation effects.

  • KODAS is made up of the Central Control System(CCS) as four Vax workstations linked up with LAN networks, six Substation Communication Control Units(SCCU) installed in substation to transfer data, 125 Feeder Remote Units(FRU) located at the lower position of automated switch to provide the information of Fault Indicator(FI) and three kinds of automated switches to have remote control functions such as SF6 gas feeder automation switch, recloser and gas insulated pad mountes switchgear for under ground line. This paper explains the functions and characteristics in detail about each devices mentioned above.
