  • A power meter is an instrument for measuring in watts the power flowing in a electric equipment. Since the value which a conventional power meter measures is analog, the power meter is hard to determine a phase difference between the voltage and current for a inductive load. The phase difference causes a loss of electric power and a increase of power-line load. In this paper, we propose a digital power meter using TI's DSP(Digital Singnal Processor) TMS320C5x, which is employed to calculate the phase difference and more accurate power consumption.

  • This study considers the economic aspect of the distribution automation system, which is the decision-making criteria of the electric utilities for the investment. The feeder automation candidate region is divided into two types of the urban and the rural. The total investment cost of the feeder automation for each type is estimated. The annual cost, is also estimated, by finding the fixed charge rate. To compare the annual cost and the economic effect cost, for the investment decision-making, the costs are quantitatively estimated on the following effects : the manpower replacement, the outage cost saving, the main transformer utilization improvement, the feeder utilization improvement, and the line loss reduction.

  • According to increase in electric power demand, the increasing rate of peak load compared with that of base load grows larger every year. Thus this paper deals with the optimal dynamic dispatch problem due to power rate limits and spinning reserve with loss or without loss. The first is adjusting module for gradual change of generator power by Object-Oriented Programming. The latter is an efficient dispatch module for the consideration of reasonable spinning reserve requirements. The proposed algorithm has been shown efficiency in real power system with loss.

  • Active AC/DC converters with PWM operation are utilized to regulate rectified DC bus voltage of a permanent magnet synchronous generator in the maritime DC power system. A DC bus voltage regulation strategy that exploits the six-step operation is proposed in this study. Compared with that of the PWM operation, switching loss of the converter can be significantly reduced under the six-step operation. Moreover, conduction loss can also be reduced due to the high modulation index and reduced flux-weakening current of the six-step operation. A controller is used for the proposed DC bus voltage regulation strategy to verify its validity with the simulation and experimental setup. The simulation and the experimental test results showed that the converter loss reduces to a maximum of 70% and 19%, respectively.

  • In reccent years the large capacity underground power transmission systems have been required gradually with the increasing demand of electric power, the increasing electric power system and the environmental limitations of an overhead transmission line in the city. But it is difficult to get the space for the underground power transmission lines because of complicated distributions of underground public facilities. But as the superconducting power cables have the large power transmission capacity, the high power transmission density, and low loss characteristics in comparison with a conventional cable, the necessity for their development are increasing. In this paper, the results of the conceptual design of HTS power cable is described.

대용량 무선전력전송 환경 인근 메쉬구조 도전부 유도현상 특성 분석 (Characteristic Analysis of Induction Phenomena in the Nearby Mesh Structure Conductive Part of Large Capacity Wireless Power Transmission System)

  • A large-capacity wireless power system is a technology that transmits electric power of kW or more in a noncontact type. Electric cars, electric buses, and electric railways. In order to increase the power transmission efficiency, a resonance method using a frequency of kHz is applied and the efficiency is 80 ~ 90%. In this case, the loss is 10 ~ 20% other than efficiency, and corresponds to several hundreds of W to several kW in kW class wireless power transmission. 35 kW wireless feed system environment, and induced current in the nearby conductive part was measured. As a result of analysis, it was confirmed that induction phenomenon is higher as the loop configuration of the conductive part per area is dense. The increase of the induced current in the mesh loop is characterized by the density of the nearby conductive part having a permeability per unit area. The concentration of the magnetic field by the permeability is increased and the induction phenomenon causing the induction current is increased. It was confirmed that induction phenomenon increases by about 2.7 times when 9 times dense structure is formed.

  • In this paper, A technique for detecting contact loss at the input power of a railway vehicle has been studied when the contact loss occurs in the feed system. The impedance of the actual railway line was applied to the modeling of the feed system, and modeling was performed based on the performance of the electric railway vehicle. The input voltage and current of the railway vehicle through modeling were analyzed by applying TEO and STFT signal processing technique.

  • In this study, We developed the optical fiber incorporated high-voltage underground power cable which is combined optical fibers with conventional high-voltage underground power cable. Optical-Unit that optical fiber is inserted in stainless tube is tested, and we got good results enough to safe optical fibers. Also we put the optical fiber incorporated high-voltage underground power cable to the test of electrical characteristics and optical characteristics, we knew that the electrical characteristics were the same characteristics as conventional high-voltage underground power cable and the transmission loss change was almost zero.

Adaptive DC-link Voltage Control for Shunt Active Power Filter

  • This study analyzes the mathematical relationship between DC-link voltage and system parameters for shunt active power filters (APFs). Analysis and mathematical deduction are used to determine the required minimum DC-link voltage for APF. A novel adaptive DC-link voltage controller for the three-phase four-wire shunt APF is then proposed. In this controller, the DC-link voltage reference value will be maintained at the required minimum voltage level. Therefore, power consumption and switching loss will effectively decrease. The DC-link voltage can also adaptively yield different DC-link voltage levels based on different harmonic currents and grid voltage levels and thus avoid the effects of harmonic current and grid voltage fluctuation on compensation performance. Finally, representative simulation and experimental results in a three-phase four-wire center-split shunt APF are presented to verify the validity and effectiveness of the minimum DC-link voltage design and the proposed adaptive DC-link voltage controller.

  • The power loss of large-capacity systems using single-phase inverters has attracted considerable attention. In this study, optimal switching sequence model prediction control at a low switching frequency is proposed to reduce the power loss in a high-power inverter system, and a compensation method that can be utilized for model prediction control is developed to reduce errors in accordance with sampling values. When a three-level, single-phase inverter using a switching frequency of 600 Hz and a sampling frequency of 12 kHz is adopted, the power factor is improved from 0.95 to 0.99 through 3 kW active power control. The performance of the controller is also verified.
