High-Speed BLDC Motor Design for Suction Fan and Impact on the Loss caused by Core Welding

  • This paper deals with the effects of welding, which is done to fix the stator stack, on a motor in case of fabricating a prototype motor that is manufactured in a small quantity. In the case of a small motor, the stator is designed and fabricated with the segmented core as a way to raise the fill factor of winding wire to the utmost within a limited size. In case of fabrication by welding both inside and outside of the stator in order to fix the segmented-core stator, the effects of stack are ignored, and the eddy current loss occurs. This paper performed the no-load test on an IPM-type BLDC motor for driving the suction fan of a vacuum cleaner, which was manufactured by using a segmented-core stator. As a result of the test, it was found that input power more than expected was supplied. To analyze the effects of welding by using the finite element analysis method and verify them experimentally, a stator was re-manufactured by bonding, and input power supplied during the no-load test was compared.

Temperature Control of the Aluminum Plate using Peltier Element (펠티어 소자를 이용한 알루미늄 판의 온도 제어)

  • This paper present the temperature control of aluminum plate using Peltier element. Peltier effect is heat pumping phenomena by electric energy as one of the thermoelectric effect. So if current is asserted to Peltier element, it absorbs heat from low temperature side and emits to high temperature side. In this experiment, Peltier element is used to control the temperature of small aluminum plate with ON/OFF control scheme and fan ON/OFF. As the result of experiments, it is proper to act fan only while cooling duration and there exist a proper cooling current to drop temperature rapidly. It takes about 100sec to increase to 7$0^{\circ}C$ and drop to 35$^{\circ}C$ of aluminium plate temperature and about 90sec to increase to 7$0^{\circ}C$ and drop to 4$0^{\circ}C$ in ambient temperature 3$0^{\circ}C$ while fan is on only in cooling duration. Future aim is to realize more rapid temperature control and develop SMHA(special metal hydride actuator) by using Peltier element to heating and cooling.

So if current is charged to Peltier element, it absorbs heat from low temperature side and emits heat to high temperature side. In this experiment, Peltier element is used to control the temperature of small aluminum plate with current control and operating cooling fan only while cooling duration. Operating cooling fan only while cooling duration is proper to get more rapid heating and cooling duration. As a result of experiment, it takes about 100sec period to repeating temperature between $35^{\circ}C$ and $70^{\circ}C$ and about 80sec from $40^{\circ}C$ to $70^{\circ}C$ in ambient air temperature $25^{\circ}C$ and while operating cooling fan only in cooling duration. Future aim is to apply this temperature control method in actuating SMHA(special metal hydride actuator) which is applicable in Siver project acting in low frequency range by using Peltier element for heating and cooling.

  • In this paper, a novel 6/5 switched reluctance motor (SRM) with segmental rotor is proposed for vehicle cooling fan application. Unlike conventional SRMs, the proposed motor adopts hybrid stator poles and segmental rotor structures, thereby making the motor operate in short flux paths and parts of the flux paths magnetically isolated between the phases. Therefore, compared with conventional SRMs, the proposed structure could improve the output torque density and reduce the core loss, thereby improving the electric utilization of the motor. To verify the proposed structure, the performance of the proposed structure is evaluated. Meanwhile, a conventional 12/8 SRM which has been used for vehicle cooling fan application is also evaluated. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed SRM is demonstrated by the simulation and experimental results.

  • 3D Equivalent magnetic Circuit Network Method (EMCNM) is comparatively the easy way that analyzes 3D models of Electric Machine by using permeance as a distributive magnetic circuit parameter under the existing magnetic equivalent circuit method and Numerical Method. The existing 3D EMCNM could not correctly describe the shape of an analysis target when using rectangular shape element or fan shape element, so it made errors when calculating permeance. Therefore, this paper proposes the trapezoidal element contained rectangular element, fan-shape element, and quadrilateral element to express a shape. The proposed method in this research was confirmed as a useful and an accurate method through comparing with the analysis result of SRM model that is sufficiently guaranteed by 2D-Analysis.

  • The reason of the contamination in the VLSI industry is the electric charge of the wafer itself. We develop the corona discharged system of clearing static electricity with a fan. This system has automatic cleaner of discharging electrode, check the state of jot control a suitable mount of discharged ion, and monitor all state using Zigbee communication module.

  • 최근 네트워크를 이용한 제어 시스템은 기존의 중앙집중식 제어방식을 벗어나 점차 분산형 제어 방식을 이용하고 있다. 이는 흔히 필드 버스라 일컫는 분산형 제어방식이 여러 가지 장점을 가지고 있기 때문이다. 특히 CAN(Controller Area Network)는 차량내의 Wiring Harness의 공간과 중량을 덜 차지하고 Controller 간의 빠르고 안정적이며 내구성이 우수한 차량 내 네트워크 프로토콜로 주로 사용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 CAN 프로토콜을 이용하여 차량 HVAC FAN의 엑추에이터로 사용되는 DC Motor의 속도 제어를 수행하였다.

Decomposition Properties of Trifluoroiodomethane under Discharges and Interruptions

  • This paper is devoted to detecting decomposition characteristics of Iodotrifluoromethane ($CF_3I$) under alternating current (AC) discharges or load current interruptions. The decomposition products are measured utilizing chromatography-mass spectroscopy. It is found that less than 1% $CF_3I$ gas decomposed after several interruptions at load current of 200 A or hundred times of AC discharges. However, under interruptions at a current of 400 A, more than 95% $CF_3I$ gas decomposed into carbon tetrafluoride ($CF_4$) and hexafluoroethane ($C_2F_6$). The equilibrium compositions based on Gibbs free energy minimization of $CF_3I$ was calculated to explain the decomposition mechanism.

  • 압전 외팔보의 구조가 갈수록 복잡해짐에 따라 더 정확하고 효과적인 압전체의 해석이 요구되어지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 3차원 직육면체요소를 이용한 유한요소법을 통해 압전 변환기를 해석하고, 이것을 실험적으로 검증함으로써, 3차원 유한요소법을 이용한 해석 프로그램의 타당성을 확인하였다. 또한 3차원 유한요소법을 이용해서 압전 외팔보를 해석하고, 이것을 실험결과를 통해서 검증하였다. 그리고 압전 외팔보를 팬으로 적용하기 위해서 끝단에서의 최대 변위를 목적함수로 한 진화 전략 알고리즘을 적용하였다. 이를 통해서 팬용 압전 외팔보의 최적 설계를 수행하였다.

  • As motor performance enhancement by improving electric design has reached its limit and downsizing issue has risen, the importance of thermal design is increasing. In this study, the flow and temperature distribution were reviewed with the help of CFD analysis and this result was compared with the experimental results. Furthermore, parametric analysis with thermal design structure showed that axial duct width but fan capacity is a critical factor to lower the hot spot temperature in electric motor.
