Accurate Prediction Method of Breakdown Voltage in Air at Atmospheric Pressure

  • To predict accurately the breakdown voltage in air at atmospheric pressure, a fully coupled finite element analysis combining the hydrodynamic diffusion-drift equations with Poisson's equation is proposed in the current paper. As three kinds of charged transport particles are nonlinearly coupled with spatial electric fields, the equations should be solved by an iterative numerical scheme, in which secondary effects, such as photoemission and photoionization, are considered. The proposed method has been successfully applied to evaluate the breakdown voltage in circular parallel-plane electrodes. Its validity has been proved through the comparison of the predicted and experimental results. The effects of numerical conditions of the initial charge, photoemission, and background ionization on the discharge phenomena are quantitatively assessed through Taguchi's design of experiment method.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the dielectric characteristics of a hot $SF_6$ gas in a gas circuit breaker. Hot gas flow is analyzed using the FVFLIC method considering the moving boundary, material properties of real $SF_6$ gas, and arc plasma. In the arc model, the re-absorption of the emitted radiation is approximated with the boundary source layer where the re-absorbed radiation energy is input as an energy source term in the energy conservation equation. The breakdown criterion of a hot gas is predicted using the critical electric field as a function of temperature and pressure. To validate the simulation method, breakdown voltage for a 145kV 40kA circuit breaker was measured for various conditions. Consistent results between the simulation and experiment were confirmed.

동적인 전기장이 다마신 구리 배선에서의 절연파괴에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Dynamic Electric Fields on Dielectric Reliability in Cu Damascene Interconnects)

  • 다마신 구리 배선에서의 동적인 전기장에 따른 절연체 파괴거동을 연구하였다. DC, 단극성, 및 이극성 펄스 조건 중에서 절연체의 수명은 이극성 펄스 조건에서 가장 길었다. DC 및 단극성 펄스 조건에서는 절연체에 가해지는 전기장의 방향이 바뀌지 않지만 이극성 펄스 조건에서는 전기장의 방향이 반복적으로 180도 바뀌기 때문에, 이극성 펄스 조건에서는 절연체의 구리오염이 억제되고, 이로 인해서 절연체 수명이 이극성 펄스 조건에서 가장 긴 것으로 판단된다. 단극성 펄스 조건에서 펄스 주파수가 커질수록 DC 조건보다 절연체의 수명이 증가하였다. 이는 절연체 수명에 구리오염 뿐만 아니라 내재적인 절연파괴현상이 상당한 영향을 미치며, 절연체 분자결합파괴가 일어날 확률은 펄스 폭이 좁아질수록 감소한다고 판단된다.

3.3kV 항복 전압을 갖는 4H-SiC Curvature VDMOSFET (4H-SiC Curvature VDMOSFET with 3.3kV Breakdown Voltage)

  • 본 논문에서는 고전압, 고전류 동작을 위한 전력 MOSFET 소자에 대한 전기적 특성을 시뮬레이션을 통해 분석하였다. 소자의 정적 특성을 향상시키기 위해 기존의 Si대신 4H-SiC를 이용했다. 4H-SiC는 넓은 에너지 밴드 갭에 의한 높은 한계전계를 갖기 때문에 고전압, 고전류 동작에서 Si보다 유리한 특성을 갖는다. 4H-SiC를 사용한 기존 VDMOSFET 구조는 p-base 영역 모서리에 전계가 집중되는 현상으로 인해 항복 전압이 제한된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 p-base 영역의 모서리에 곡률을 주어 전계의 집중을 완화시켜 항복 전압을 높이고, 정적 특성을 개선한 곡률 VDMOSFET 구조를 제안하였다. TCAD 시뮬레이션을 통해 기존 VDMOSFET과 곡률 VDMOSFET의 정적 특성을 비교, 분석 하였다. 곡률 VDMOSFET은 기존 구조에 비해 온저항의 증가 없이 68.6% 향상 된 항복 전압을 갖는다.

저밀도폴리에틸렌에서 트리 형상의 전계의존성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Electric Field Dependence of Tree Shape in Low Density Polyethylene)

  • 절연재료의 내부에서 부분방전이 발생하면 국부파괴와 완전절연파괴의 원인이 된다. 부분방전으로 생기는 트리잉은 절연재료를 열화시키고 절연 수명을 단축시키는 중요한 원인이 된다. 따라서 절연파괴의 예측과 절연재료의 수명을 진단할 수 있는 방법에 대한 연구는 매우 중요하다. 고전압 하에서 일어나는 트리잉 현상에 대해서 저밀도 폴리에틸렌의 트리잉 개시 전압과 그 진전 과정을 진성파괴의 견해에서 고찰하였다. 이러한 관점에서 본 연구는 고전압하에서 일어나는 트리잉현상에 대해서 저밀도폴리에틸렌에서 트리형상의 전계의존성에 관하여 고찰하였다. 결과로서 트리의 성장을 그 내부가 각각 유전체 혹은 도체라고 가정했을 때의 중간적인 특성을 갖는다는 추리하에 이론적으로 검토한 결과, 실험결과와도 잘 일치됨을 알 수 있었다.

  • The characteristics of laminar free jet flow with having applied AC electric fields have been investigated experimentally. A single electrode configuration was adopted such that electric fields were applied directly to nozzle and thus the surrounding could be an infinite ground. The experimental results showed that the jet flow with AC was modified significantly. At a certain axial distance, the laminar fuel stem was broken down and subsequently it was separated into three parts when AC electric fields were applied over a certain voltage in a range of frequencies less than 120 Hz. The breakdown point was measured by varying applied AC voltage and frequency. The effect of applying electric fields to jet flow was discussed in detail.

  • This paper focuses on emergency source and control of substation against the consequence of power system breakdown or outage. the aim of the paper is to provide ideas and guidance concerning methods of using AC/DC combined emergency source for power system control to restore power system after unforseen events, such as outages caused by natural disaster. so the emergency source and lamp is very important for restoration control of substation after outage. therefore, this paper proposes countermeasure and method for security of substation emergency source and lamp which is restored at breakdown.

  • The fault current through the earth originated from a power line ground fault might cause arcing through the soil to an adjacent pipeline, which might bring about not only a catastrophic accident such as gas explosion and oil leakage but also a hazard to the safety of workers responsible for the maintenance and repair of the pipeline. In this paper we experimented on the soil breakdown test using the fixture and outlined the standards for the separation distance of a buried pipeline adjacent to the power line tower.

산화마그네슘 첨가에 따른 나노컴퍼지트의 수명평가 (Life Evaluation of Nano-Composites According to the Addition of MgO)

  • Molded insulation materials are widely used from large electric power transformer apparatus to small electrical machinery and apparatus. In this study, by adding MgO with the average particle of several tens nm and the excellent thermal conductivity into molding material, we improved the problem of insulation breakdown strength decrease according to rising temperature in overload or in bad environmental condition. We confirmed the life evaluation by using the insulation breakdown and inverse involution to investigate the electrical characteristics of nano-composites materials. By using a scanning electron microscope, it is confirmed that MgO power with the average particle size of several tens nm is distributed and the filler particles is uniformly distributed in the cross section of specimens. And it is confirmed that the insulation breakdown strength of Virgin specimens is rapidly decreased at the high temperature area. But it is confirmed that the insulation breakdown strength of specimens added MgO slow decreased by thermal properties in the high temperature area improved by the contribution of the heat radiation of MgO and the suppression of tree. The results of life prediction using inverse involution, it is confirmed that the life of nano-composites is improved by contribution of MgO according to the predicted insulation breakdown strength after 10 years of specimens added 5.0 wt% of MgO is increased about 2.9 times at RT, and 4.9 times at $100^{\circ}C$ than Virgin specimen, respectively.

LSR 계면의 접착특성 및 절연파괴거동 (Adhesion properties and Breakdown behaviors of LSR Interface)

  • Recently developed liquid silicone rubber (LSR) can be cured by platinum catalyzed additional hydrosilylation mechanism and has the advantage of no byproduct compared to traditional millable peroxide curing silicone rubber. We investigated the characteristics of dielectric breakdown of silicone rubber and adhesion properties between semi-conductive LSR and insulating LSR for high voltage application of pre-molded joint (PMJ). In order to understand the dielectric breakdown characteristics, we used the sheet samples and the paired type rogowski insert electrode system. The breakdown strength and adhesion strength of LSR (E-3) were superior to those of several silicone rubbers. Adhesion strength could be improved by curing at high temperature without post-curing process or enhanced by post-curing process. When LSR (E-3) was cured at $(150^{\circ}C{\times}10min$ semi-conductive )${\times}$ ($175^{\circ}C{\times}10min$ insulation), it showed the high breakdown strength with low standard deviation, and good adhesion strength. In this results, we could apply this process to the fabrication of PMJ without post-curing.
