Unlike conventional transmission and distribution lines, catenary system for operating electric railway vehicles are composed of multi-conductor groups (feeder line, contact wire, messenger wire, protection wire) and are used for railway employees, public or passengers in the station yards. Electric shock hazards are exposed and electric shocks such as death or serious injury are occurring in electric railway vehicles, railway high-voltage distribution lines, and catenary system. In order to analyze the types of electric shock accidents on railway by systematic approach method, we modeled 'unsafe behavior classification' method using swiss cheese model. Based on this method, we derived the type of electric shock accidents about railway accidents during the last 5 years by analyzing the frequency of occurrence of human errors and unsafe acts, laws and regulations related to violations, and so on.
Electric components equipped with naval shipboards must endure mechanical shock caused by various mechanical impulsive sources. Thus the components must be designed carefully and reliability test is an essential procedure before use. In this study, a new design technology applicable to a large and heavy shock generation system which can generate various specific real mechanical shocks in specified time domain was introduced. Commonly, the shock transmitted through the wall of naval shipboard consists of dual shocks. The primary shock is of a very high amplitude and very short period half-sine form. The following shock is of an exponentially decaying harmonic form of relatively longer period. Based on the different dynamic characteristics of two shocks, we proposed a sequential design procedure to determine spring and damping coefficients of the generation system. Some numerical simulation results showed the feasibility of the proposed method.
This study performed an experiment for the danger of an electric shock in the human body, which is directly touched or approached to the exposure of buried metals in a leak caused by certain ground faults at a buried cable in street lamp. In the results of the experiment, the dangerous of electric shocks due to the earth specific resistance and wet and submersion of the earth surface represents a high level as the human body is directly touched to the buried metal at a leak point. In addition, it can be seen that the safety of the human body is influenced by the earth specific resistance, separated distance from buried metals, and shape of buried metals at around the leak point.
In this study, we analyze the current status of major disasters in distribution works and propose safety measures through the distribution live-line work method and electric shock risk assessment. The result of analyzing the ratio of electric shocks to the occurrence of industrial accidents in the recent 13 years shows that the death rate is higher than other industries, especially the construction industry occupying most of the disaster, and it is higher than the collapse disaster. We analyze statistic data of 101 victims selected as core words of live work, distribution line, pole and 22.9 kV in the investigation report of major accident of electric shock fatal from 2001 to 2014. The safety measure was established through the risk assessment of the distribution method using the standard model of the risk assessment based on the results of electric shock analysis on the distribution line. In order to prevent the electric shock accident which is recently being discussed, the risk assessment procedure were carried out in the above-mentioned 22.9kV special high voltage live-line operation method. We derived the risk reduction plan for the distribution line from the results of the major accidents statistic and demonstration of the line works.
In the cold and temperate regions of Korea the icing and ice coats on 25[kV] electric car line during winter is a very serious problem. This generates shocks at the mechanical interface of the collecting strips of the pantograph and the contact wire and extra electrical resistance, which may affect quality of current collection at the contact wire / collecting strips of pantograph interface. De-icing operations should be performed just before train operation to avoid the formation of another ice layer. This paper presents temperature analysis of the de-icing system which could be applied to the electric car line of railways.
Recently, DC distribution systems have become a hot issue because of the increase in digital loads and DC generation systems according to the expansion of renewable energy technologies. To obtain the practical usage of DC electricity, safety should be guaranteed. The main concerns for safety are twofold: one side is human protection against electric shocks, and the other is facility protection from short faults. "Effects of current on human beings and livestock" (IEC 60479) defines a human body impedance model in electric shock conditions that consists of resistive components and capacitive components. Although the human body impedance model properly works in AC electricity, it does not well match with the electric shock behavior in DC electricity. In this study, the contradiction of the human body impedance model defined by IEC 60479 in case of DC electricity is shown through experiments for the human body. From the analysis of experimental results, a novel unified human body impedance model in electric shock conditions is proposed. This model consists of resistive components, capacitive components, and an inductance component. The proposed human impedance model matches well for AC and DC electricity environments in simulation and experiment.
Most of Static electricity forms part of our daily experience broadly. Most people have noticed from time to time electric shocks when closing of their car or after walking across a carpet, operating shredder in winter and touching a metal handle. This electrostatic discharge nuisance is normally a minor inconvenience, but in some cases static electricity can cause more serious problems. Static electricity can also be harnessed to good effect in Position Control System.
In the year 2002, 11,202 cases of electrical fires caused 462 casualties and about 58 billion won of physical damages. The electrical accidents alone caused victimized 854 people, including 87 deaths. at present, no detailed statistics about electrical fires is available. Also, there is no statistics about electric shocks and electrical equipment accidents. the electrical accidents are on the increase, proportional to the increase of electrical use. Therefore, a statistical analysis of electrical accidents is required to understand the situation and take measures to prevent similar accidents.

We investigated a resistive superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) fabricated using YBCO thin films on 2-inch diameter sapphire substrates. Nearly identical SFCL units were prepared and tested. The units were connected in series and parallel to increase the current and voltage ratings. A serial connection of the units showed significantly unbalanced power dissipation between the units. This imbalance was removed by introducing a shunt resistor to the firstly quenched unit. Parallel connection of the units increased the current rating. An SFCL module of 4 units in parallel, each of which has minimum quench current 25 Ap, was produced and successfully tested at a 220 V circuit. From the resistance increase, we estimated that the film temperature increases to 200 K in 5 msec, and 300 K in 120 msec. Successive quenches revealed that this system is stable without degradation in the current limiting capability under such thermal shocks as quenches at 220 V.
