Both cylindrical cup drawing and square cup drawing are analyzed using membrane analysis as well as shell analysis by the elastic-plastic finite element method. An incremental formulation incorporating the effect of large deformation and normal anisotropy is used for the analysis of elastic-plastic non-steady deformation. The computed results are compared with the existing experimental results to show the validity of the analysis. Comparisons are made in the punch load and distribution of thickness strain between the membrane analysis and the shell analysis for both cylindrical and square cup drawing processes. In punch load, both analyses show very little difference and also show generally good agreement with the experiment. For the cylindrical cup deep drawing, the computed thickness strain of a membrane analysis, however, shows a wide difference with the experiment. In the shell analysis, the thickness strain shows good agrement with the experiment. For the square cup deep drawing, both membrane and shell analyses show a wide difference with experiment, this may be attributable to the ignorance of the shear deformation. Concludingly, it has been shown that the membrane approach shows a limitation for the deep drawing process in which the effect of bending is not negligible and more exact information on the thickness strain distribution is required.
Elastic-plastic fracture toughness $J_{1c}$ can be used as an effective design criterion in elastic plastic fracture mechanics. Most of these systems are operated at high temperature and $J_{1c}$ values are affected by temperature. therefore, the $J_{1c}$ valuse at high temperature must be determined for use of integrity evaluation and designing of such systems. Elastic-plastic fracture toughness $J_{1c}$ tests were performed on SA516 carbon steel plate and test results were analyzed according to ASTM E 813-8, ASTM 1813-89. Safety and integrity are required for reactor pressure vessels vecause pthey are operated in high temperature. there are single specimen method, which used as evaluation of safety and integrity for reactor pressure vessels. In this study, elastic-plastic fracture toughness$(J_{1c})$ and $J-\Delta{a}$ of SA 516/70 steel used as reactor pressure vessel steel are measured and evaluated at room Temperature, $150^{\circ}C$, $250^{\circ}C$ and $370^{\circ}C$ according to unloading compliance method.

In this paper, comparison of the observed and the predicted ground deformations due to the construction of road embankment with peck drain near the construction site was made. Measurement of the ground deformation at the gasoline stand due to the construction of road embankment was made and it was compared with the predicted deformation results of Finite Element Method analysis made with Elasto-plastic and Elastic visco-plastic models. A well agreement was obtained between the measured and predicted ground deformations.
In this paper, the possibility of plastic deformation of rifle and gun barrels is studied through the numerical methods. When a rifle or tank gun is fired, the expansive deformation of the barrel can occur by the explosive pressure and the thermal effect. Using the ABAQUS program, the stresses and displacements are computed for the elastic and elastic-plastic material property, and the possibility of plasticity deformation is investigated. In conclusion, rifle and tank gun barrel the plastic deformation occurred in some parts of the barrel
In this paper, as elastic-plastic fracture toughness test under mixed mode loading was proposed using a single edge-cracked specimen subjected to bending moment(M), shearing force(F), and twisting moment(T). The J-integral of a crack in the specimen is expressed in the form J=$J_I$+ $J_II$$J_III$, where $J_I$, $J_II$ and $J_III$ are the components of mode I, mode II and mode III deformation, respectively. $J_I$, $J_II$ and $J_III$ can be estimated from M-$\theta$ ($\theta$;crack opening angle), F-U(U; crack shear displacement) and T-$\alpha$ ($\alpha$;crack twisting angle). In order to obtain the the M<-TEX>$\theta$, F-U and T-$\alpha$ diagram inreal time, a new deformaiton gage for mixed mode loading was proposed using the optical position sensing device(PSD). The elastic-plastic fracture toughness test was carried out with an aluminum alloy. The loading apparatus was designed and manufactured for this experiment. For the loading condition of the crack initatio in the mixed mode, the MMT -3(mode I+ mode II+ mode III) has the lowest values out of the all specimens. This implies that MMT-3 is possible of the crackinitation at lower load, if the specimen acts on together with the torque under the same loading condition. An elastic-plastic fracture toughness test using the PSD brings a successful experimentation in measuring the crack deformation(mode I+ mode II+ mode III).
When designing high temperature piping system, creep phenomena must be considered. Since ASME code does not provide detailed methods of design by rule (DBR) for high temperature piping, Finite element analysis should be performed. However, In the case of piping system with frequent design changes, creep analysis of the entire piping system for every change is ineffective and practically impossible. Therefore, based on elastic and elastic-plastic analysis, which takes a relatively short time, the creep stress is predicted by using elastic follow-up factor method provided in R5 code and plastic-creep analogy presented by Hoff. The predicted creep stress for a virtual piping system was compared with the creep analysis result and the two results showed similar stress relaxation tendency in time.
The effects of restraint of pressure induced bending(PIB) on crack opening for circumferential through-wall crack in a pipe were investigated. In this study, the elastic and elastic-plastic finite element analyses were performed to evaluate crack opening displacement(COD) for various restraint conditions and crack size. The results showed the restraint of PIB decreased crack opening for a given crack size and tensile stress, and the decrease in crack opening was considerable for large crack and short restraint length. A1so, the effect was more significant in tole results of elastic-plastic analysis compared with in the elastic analysis results. In the elastic-plastic analysis results, tole restraint effect was increased with increasing applied tensile stress corresponding to internal pressure. Additionally, the restraint effect on COD was independent on the variation in pipe diameter and decreased with increasing pipe thickness, and It depended on not total restraint length but shorter restraint length for non-symmetrically restrained.
