  • This paper proposes efficient cloth animation and collision handling methods. There have been various techniques for the generation of cloth behavior. However, the cloth animation is still a challenging subject in real-time environments. This paper presents an efficient animation method based on implicit integration. The proposed method can efficiently animate virtual cloth object with complex geometry. In addition, this paper also introduces an efficient collision handling method. The collision resolution is another important issue in cloth animation since deformable objects has special collision problem called self-collision. In this paper, the self-collision was successfully avoided in real - time environments.

  • The efficient method to implement the Max-Log-MAP algorithm is proposed by modifying the conventional algorithm. It is called a parallel soft output Viterbi algorithm (SOVA) and the rigorous proof is given for the equivalence between the Max-Log-MAP algorithm and the parallel SOVA. The parallel SOVA is compared with the conventional algorithms and we show that it is an efficient algorithm implementing the modified SOVA in parallel.

  • To take the re-use of software, we need to study the efficient integration method of source programs. When the source programs are merged, it is required the steps of verification for any non-interference on non-identical parts of them. The traditional techniques of the program integration verify non-interference of source programs through the simple comparison of statements of source programs. We propose the efficient integration method using data flow analysis in the programs. A study comparing test results from the traditional method and the proposed method has found that the proposed method is more efficient than the traditional method.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method for personal identification by analyzing iris patterns that have a high level of stability and distinctiveness. To improve the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed system, we present a new approach to making a feature vector compact and efficient by using wavelet transform, and two straightforward but efficient mechanisms for a competitive learning method such as a weight vector initialization and the winner selection. With all of these novel mechanisms, the experimental results showed that the proposed system could be used for personal identification in an efficient and effective manner.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method to extract a goal area which may be closely related to the scoring highlight. In our method, the boundary between the ground and the non-ground area is used. An efficient methods for a rapid detection of both the boundary and then the goal area are proposed. Our simulation results show that our method is very reliable and takes less processing time compared with previous methods. This performance improvements may be caused by the use of a general simple feature.

  • Cholesky factorization is known to be inefficient to problems with dense column and network problems in interior point methods. We use the conjugate gradient method and preconditioners to improve the convergence rate of the conjugate gradient method. Several preconditioners were applied to LPABO 5.1 and the results were compared with those of CPLEX 3.0. The conjugate gradient method shows to be more efficient than Cholesky factorization to problems with dense columns and network problems. The incomplete Cholesky factorization preconditioner shows to be the most efficient among the preconditioners.

  • A new moving-mesh Finite Volume Method (FVM) for the efficient solution of the two-dimensional neutron diffusion equation is introduced. Many other moving-mesh methods developed to solve the neutron diffusion problems use a relatively large number of sophisticated mathematical equations, and so suffer from a significant complexity of mathematical calculations. In this study, the proposed method is formulated based on simple mathematical algebraic equations that enable an efficient mesh movement and CV deformation for using in practical nuclear reactor applications. Accordingly, a computational framework relying on a new moving-mesh FVM is introduced to efficiently distribute the meshes and deform the CVs in regions with high gradient variations of reactor power. These regions of interest are very important in the neutronic assessment of the nuclear reactors and accordingly, a higher accuracy of the power densities is required to be obtained. The accuracy, execution time and finally visual comparison of the proposed method comprehensively investigated and discussed for three different benchmark problems. The results all indicated a higher accuracy of the proposed method in comparison with the conventional fixed-mesh FVM.

  • An efficient method that compensates the HMM parameters for the noisy speech recognition is proposed. Instead of assuming some analytical approximations as in the PMC, the proposed method directly re-estimates the HMM parameters by the segmental k-means algorithm. The proposed method has shown improved results compared with the conventional PMC method at reduced computational cost.

  • This in-depth study of portfolio method centered on efficient methods of application, including teacher education. The study was carried out in 2 public kindergartens in Taegu. The efficient portfolio assessment method was developed by revisions after successive applications, observations, and discussions with the teachers of both kindergartens. The resulting efficient portfolio method is composed of step 1: portfolio conference and planning; step 2: development of the portfolio in the process of teaching and learning; step 3: selection of the materials for the portfolio; step 4: analysis of the portfolio; and step 5: use of the portfolio method. The practical application of the portfolio assessment is included in the forms used for teachers' observations of children's play and educational interventions. Teachers' interventions include verbal interaction, presentation of materials, and participating as partners. This teaching-learning method consists of teaching and assessment by sensitive and instant responses to children's needs.

  • The ELID(electrolytic in-process dressing) grinding method is a new precision grinding technique with the special electrolytic in-process dressing by metal bonded grinding wheel, fluid, and power supply. It is possible to make a efficient precision machining of hard and brittle materials such as ceramics, hard metals, and quenched steels by using this method, In this study, a new efficient precision grinding method with ELID was attempted for application to the machining and finishing processes of cylindrical structural components. And, we try to develop the cylindrical grinding technique for mirror surface of ceramics, tungsten carbide and SCM steel, and for the high efficiency grinding of machined parts, for example, ball screw shaft. Electrical characteristics of three different wheel grit sizes of #325, #2000 and #4000 were investigated experimentally. ELID grinding method is proved to be useful for mirror surface generation and efficient machining.
