  • This paper develops a methodology which can be used to quantify the combat effectiveness of the army C2A system by modifying C2 theory and using Air Defense Engagement Simulation. In this paper, by using Schutzer's C2 theory and Measures of Effectiveness, we modified the MOE formula he designed. Because the combat effectiveness by enhancement of C2(Command and Control) system will increase combat power of individual asset independently. In addition, we developed simulation analysis of air defense scenario by using Air Defense Engagement Simulation. The results show that modified the MOE formula is proper as compared with Air Defense Engagement Simulation method. The combat effectiveness can be obtained as a result of improved probability of detection and information accuracy through real-time information sharing and coordination by C2A system.

  • Mission effectiveness may be defined as a probability that a system can successfully meet an intended mission demand within a given time when operated under specified conditions. This study deals with the Mission effectiveness of a replenishment ships that is performing several types of missions. The essential attributes and their related factors affecting the replenishment missions are established, and then, a mathematical mission effectiveness model is constructed with a replenishment mission characteristics for a basis. Mission effectiveness for a mission is determined by finding the joint probability measure of the following three attributes : operational readiness of the replenishment ships at the start of a mission ; mission reliability of the replenishment ships ; capability of successfully accomplishing intended objectives given an environmental condition. The model is solved analytically. Operational readiness of the replenishment ships in found by the assumed data. Mission reliability and capability are calculated based on the assumed probability distributions. The model would be a useful tool to evaluate mission effectiveness as it is very a replenishment ships.

  • Suggesting that endorser fit in print advertising can be subdivided into observable endorser-product fit, unobservable endorser-product fit, and observable endorser-background fit, this study empirically investigates their effects on advertising effectiveness. Undergraduate students participated in the study and evaluated three real advertisements on the items of the fits, the advertising effectiveness, and so on. The advertisements were for a watch, perfume, and women's clothing. Results showed that each of fits had an positive effect on advertising attitude, brand attitude, and purchase intention respectively and the observable endorser-product fit had a more positive effect on such an effectiveness than the unobservable endorser-product fit and the observable endorser-background fit in the majority of cases. It was also found that each of the fits had a tendency to exert relatively greater effects on the advertising effectiveness, especially on the purchase intention, compared to the endorser preference.

  • The ventilation effectiveness is evaluated as a function of air exchange rate and supply / extract locations in a simplified model chamber using a tracer gas technique of CO$_2$ gas injected into a supply duct. Ventilation systems consist of supply and extract fans, a CO$_2$gas generator, a CO$_2$gas analyzer and a test chamber. The ventilation effectiveness is evaluated using a step-down method based on ASTM Standard E741-83. The room mean age of the model chamber is decreased with increasing air exchange rate fanged from 6to 10 air changes per hour. The ventilation effectiveness of the mechanical inlet/natural extract system is better than that of the mechanical extract system.

  • In this paper, we have described the characteristics of the Underwater Distributed Sensor Network (UDSN) and proposed the conceptual design guideline by an effectiveness analysis. To perform the effectiveness analysis, we defined an battlefield environment, and then analyzed principal components which compose the UDSN to find out simulation parameters and system constraints. We have chosen a measure of effectiveness based on a target trajectory, which could enhance intuitive understanding about current status, and performed various simulations to reveal critical design parameters in terms of sensor node types, arrangement, cost and combination of detection information.

  • Background: Although breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, economic evaluation of breast cancer screening is not fully addressed in developing countries. The main objective of the present study was to analyze the cost-effectiveness of breast cancer screening using mammography in 35-69 year old women in an Iranian setting. Materials and Methods: This was an economic evaluation study assessing the cost-effectiveness of a population-based screening program in 35-69 year old women residing in rural areas of South east Iran. The study was conducted from the perspective of policy-makers of insurance. The study population consisted of 35- to 69-year old women in rural areas of Kerman with a population of about 19,651 in 2013. The decision tree modeling and economic evaluation software were used for cost-effectiveness and sensitivity analyses of the interventions. Results: The total cost of the screening program was 7,067.69 US$ and the total effectiveness for screening and no-screening interventions was 0.06171 and 0.00864 disability adjusted life years averted, respectively. The average cost-effectiveness ratio DALY averted US$ for screening intervention was 7,7082.5 US$ per DALY averted and 589,027 US $ for no-screening intervention. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio DALY averted was 6,264 US$ per DALY averted for screening intervention compared with no-screening intervention. Conclusions: Although the screening intervention is more cost-effective than the alternative (noscreening) strategy, it seems that including breast cancer screening program in health insurance package may not be recommended as long as the target group has a low participation rate.

  • For the past decade, although there have been many studies which examined factors influencing the extent of EDI systems implementation, it is very hard to find out studies which directly investigated what the effectiveness of EDI systems are, and which factors contribute to the successful implementation of EDI systems. In this regard, this research aims to explore for the factors which constitute the effectiveness of EDI systems as perceived, based on a survey from 202 companies. The major steps of the current research are as follows. First, in order to identify important factors constituting the effectiveness of EDI systems, previous research related to the effectiveness of EDI systems was reviewed and analyzed. Second, individual items which can be considered as candidates to represent the effectiveness of EDI systems were derived from this previous research review, and a survey questionnaire was developed using those derived items. Based on the developed survey questionnaire, a pretest was administered at several domestic business firms with experiences of EDI systems. Third, survey questionnaires were distributed to and collected from the 202 companies which experienced EDI implementation. Accordingly, this research derived out five factors constituting the effectiveness of EDI systems from the result of a multivariate data analysis: strategic advantage, time reduction in business process, accuracy improvement, cost reduction, and improvement of business process quality. It was also interesting to find that the factors of EDI effectiveness are divided into three levels, similarly to three levels of the Anthony's hierarchical model of organization(Anthony, 1965): strategic, managerial, and operational levels. Furthermore, from the levels of derived factors, we developed a conceptual model which explains the possible causal relations of those factors in a hierarchical manner.
