A Study on Lambertian Color Segmentation and Canny Edge Detection Algorithms for Automatic Display Detection in CamCom (저속 카메라 통신용 자동 디스플레이 검출을 위한 Lambertian 색상 분할 및 Canny Edge Detection 알고리즘 연구)

  • Recent advancements in camera communication (CamCom) technology using visible light exploited to use display as an luminance source to modulate the data for visible light data communication. The existing display-CamCom techniques uses the selected region of interest based camera capturing approach to detect and decode the 2D color coded data on display screen. This is not effective way to do communicate when the user on mobility. This paper propose the automatic display detection using Lambertian color segmentation combined with canny edge detection algorithms for CamCom in order to avoid manual region of interest selection to establish communication link between display and camera. The automatic display detection methods fails using conventional edge detection algorithms when content changes dynamically in displays. In order to solve this problem lambertian color segmentation combined with canny edge detection algorithms are proposed to detect display automatically. This research analysed different algorithms on display edge recognition and measured the performance on rendering dynamically changing content with color code on display. The display detection rate is achieved around 96% using this proposed solutions.

A Study on Estimation of Gait Acceleration Signal Using Gait Video Signal in Wearable Device (걸음걸이 비디오를 활용한 웨어러블 기기 사용자 걸음걸이 가속도 신호 추정)

  • Researches that apply the acceleration signal due to user's gait measured at the wearable device to the authentication technology are being introduced recently. The gait acceleration signal based authentication technologies introduced so far have assumed that an attacker can obtain a user's gait acceleration signal only by attaching accelerometer directly to user's body. And the practical attack method for gait acceleration signal based authentication technology is mimic attack and it uses a person whose physical condition is similar to the victim or identifies the gait characteristics through the video of the gait of the victim. However, mimic attack is not effective and attack success rate is also very low, so it is not considered a serious threat. In this paper, we propose Video Gait attack as a new attack method for gait acceleration signal based authentication technology. It is possible to know the position of the wearable device from the user's gait video signal and generate a signal that is very similar to the accelerometer's signal using dynamic equation. We compare the user's gait acceleration signal and the signal that is calculated from video of user's gait and dynamic equation with experiment data collected from eight subjects.

A study on the improvement of work flow and productivity in complex manufacturing line by employing the effective process control methods (복잡한 생산라인에서 효율적 공정관리 기법 도입에 따른 공정흐름 및 생산성 개선 연구)

  • Due to the change from small volume production to small quantity batch production systems, individual companies have been attempting to produce a wide range of operating strategies, maximize their productivity, and minimize their WIP level by operating with the proper cycle time to defend their market share. In particular, using a complex workflow and process sequence in the manufacturing line has some drawbacks when it comes to designing the production strategy by applying analytical models, such as mathematical models and queueing theory. For this purpose, this paper uses three heuristic algorithms to solve the job release problem at the bottleneck workstation, product mix problem in multi-purpose machine(s), and batch size and sequence in batch machine(s). To verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods, a simulation analysis was performed. The experimental results demonstrated that the combined application of the proposed methods showed positive effects on the reduction of the cycle time and WIP level, and improvement of the throughput.

Content-Based Image Retrieval using Third Order Color Object Relation (3차 칼라 객체 관계에 의한 내용 기반 영상 검색)

  • In this paper, we propose a criteria which can be applied to classify conventional color feature based Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) methods with its application areas, and a new image retrieval method which can represent sufficient spatial information in the image and is powerful in invariant searching to translation, rotation and enlargement transform. As the conventional color feature based CBIR methods can not sufficiently include the spatial information in the image, in general, they have drawbacks, which are weak to the translation or rotation, enlargement transform. To solve it, they have represented the spatial information by partitioning the image. Retrieval efficiency, however, is decreased rapidly as increasing the number of the feature vectors. We classify conventional methods to ones using 1st order relations and ones using 2nd order relations as their color object relation, and propose a new method using 3rd order relation of color objects which is good for the translation, rotation and enlargement transform. It makes quantized 24 buckets and selects 3 high scored histogram buckets and calculates 3 mean positions of pixels in 3 buckets and 3 angles. Then, it uses them as feature vectors of a given image. Experiments show that the proposed method is especially good at enlarged images and effective for its small calculation.

  • With rapid growth of information and computer communication technologies, the numbers of digital documents including multimedia data have been recently exploded. In particular, news video database and news video mining have became the subject of extensive research, to develop effective and efficient tools for manipulation and analysis of news videos, because of their information richness. However, many research focus on browsing, retrieval and summarization of news videos. Up to date, it is a relatively early state to discover and to analyse the plentiful latent semantic knowledge from news videos. In this paper, we propose the news video mining system based on multi-modal approach and text mining, which uses the visual-textual information of news video clips and their scripts. The proposed system systematically constructs a taxonomy of news video stories in automatic manner with hierarchical clustering algorithm which is one of text mining methods. Then, it multilaterally analyzes the topics of news video stories by means of time-cluster trend graph, weighted cluster growth index, and network analysis. To clarify the validity of our approach, we analyzed the news videos on "The Second Summit of South and North Korea in 2007".

A Development of concrete Pavement Material with Low Shrinkage and Reflection, High Strength and Performance (저수축 저반사 고강도 고내구성 콘크리트 포장재료 개발)

  • This study developed a high strength and performance concrete pavement material with low shrinkage and reflection of sunlight. Based on the literature review, a new mix-design of applying flash ash to improve the strength and performance of the concrete as well as to reduce the dry shrinkage is suggested. In addition, adding black pigment to reduce the reflection and technique of applying OAG (Optimized Aggregate Gradation) is also included. The result of the laboratory experiment indicates that the brightness and the reflection, which depends on the ratio of black pigment addition, did not deviate from the normal range. When OAG is considered for the mix-design, the strength and performance of the concrete improved greatly. In addition, the mix-design using fly ash reduced the dry shrinkage of concrete and improved the resistance to the permeation of chloride ion. Furthermore, the mix-design, which uses fly ash (25% replacement) and black pigment (3% addition) with the application of OAG, is found to be the most effective mix to reduce the shrinkage and reflection as well as improving the strength and performance of the concrete. The result of an economic analysis indicates that the initial construction cost of this proposed mix is more expensive than that of normal concrete pavement material. However, it can be more economic in the long run because the normal concrete pavement material is likely to cost more due to higher probability of maintenance and repair and higher social cost due to traffic accident, etc.

Human Risk Assessment of a Contaminated Site Using Korean Risk-Based Corrective Action (K-RBCA) Software (한국형 소프트웨어를 이용한 유류.중금속 복합오염지역의 인체위해성평가 및 RBCA Tool Kit과의 비교분석)

  • By using a newly developed Korean risk-based corrective action (K-RBCA) software (K-RBCA) and the RBCA Tool Kit, risk assessment was performed on a site that was contaminated with aromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metals. Eight chemicals including benzene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, naphthalene, benz(a) anthracene, benzo(b) fluoranthene, benzo(a) pyrene, and arsenic that exceeded the US EPA Soil Screening Level were chosen as the target pollutants. A conceptual site model was constructed based on the site-specific effective exposure pathways. According to the RBCA Tool Kit the carcinogenic risk of arsenic was larger than $10^{-6}$, which is the generally acceptable carcinogenic risk level. The K-RBCA estimated the same level of carcinogenic risk for arsenic. With the RBCA Tool Kit, the carcinogenic risk of benzo(a) pyrene was estimated to be about $1.3{\times}10^{-6}$. However, with the K-RBCA benzo(a) pyrene did not exhibit any risk. The inconsistency between the softwares was attributed to the different fundamental settings (i.e., medium division) between the two softwares. While the K-RBCA divides medium into surface soil, subsurface soil, and groundwater, the RBCA Tool Kit divides medium into only soil and groundwater. These differences lead to the different exposure pathways used by the two softwares. The K-RBCA considers the exposure pathways in surface soil and subsurface soil separately to estimate risk, however, the RBCA Tool Kit considers the surface soil and subsurface soil as one and uses the integrated exposure pathways to estimate risk. Thus the resulting risk is higher when the RBCA Tool Kit is used than when the K-RBCA is used. The results from this study show that there is no significant difference in the risks estimated by the two softwares, thus, it is reasonable to use the K-RBCA we developed in risk assessment of soil and groundwater. In addition, the present study demonstrates that the assessor should be familiar with the characteristics of a contaminated site and the assumptions used by a risk assessment software when carrying out risk assessment.

Comparison of Silver-containing Hydrofiber Dressing and Hydrophobic Dressing for Effects on MRSA-infected Full Thickness Skin Defect in the Rat (MRSA에 감염된 흰쥐의 전층피부결손에 대한 은 함유 하이드로화이버 드레싱과 소수성 드레싱의 효과의 비교)

  • Purpose: Aquacel Ag$^{(R)}$ is a hydrofiber wound dressing integrated with ionic silver. Sorbact$^{(R)}$ is a hydrophobiccoated dressing that uses the hydrophobic interaction with microbes. In this study, we compared the wound healing effects and the antibacterial effects of Medifoam$^{(R)}$, Betadine soaked, Aquacel Ag$^{(R)}$ and Sorbact$^{(R)}$ dressings against MRSA-infected wounds. Methods: Eighty rats were divided into four groups: Medifoam$^{(R)}$; Betadine soaked; Aquacel Ag$^{(R)}$; and Sorbact$^{(R)}$. A $1.5{\times}1.5cm$ square full-thickness wound was made on the dorsum of each rat and infected with MRSA. Twenty-four hours thereafter, each dressing was applied to the wound and changed every other day. One, 3, 7, 11 and 15 days after the wound infection, swab culture grade, wound bed appearance score, and wound defect size change were evaluated, and 7 and 15 days after, histologic evaluation was compared between the groups. Results: The bacteria load of wounds in the Sorbact$^{(R)}$ group decreased earlier than in the other groups. The wound bed appearance score of the Sorbact$^{(R)}$ group also increased quicker, compared with the other groups. However, the size of wounds of the Aquacel Ag$^{(R)}$ group decreased more rapidly, compared with other groups. From the histologic point of view, there was no significant difference between Betadine soaked, Aquacel Ag$^{(R)}$ and Sorbact groups. Conclusion: The hydrophobic dressing using Sorbact$^{(R)}$ showed a more rapid reduction in the MRSA load and an elevation in the wound bed appearance score, but a slower decrease in wound size change due to detachment of wound bed tissue when the dressing was eliminated in the low exudate wound. The silver-containing hydrofiber dressing using Aquacel Ag$^{(R)}$ was more effective in ultimate wound size reduction, but some debris was trapped in the wound tissue and induced foreign body reaction in the high exudate wound. Thus, ongoing selection process of treatment based on the evaluation of the infectious wound state will be very important.

The Effect of IT Service Outsourcing Project Risks on the Intention of Purchasing Real Options based on Transaction Cost Theory (IT서비스 아웃소싱 프로젝트 위험과 실물옵션 유형간 적합성에 관한 연구)

  • IS outsourcing has an important meaning to the Korean SME's (Small and Medium Enterprises) which want to use the IS Services. The objective of this research is to manage IT risks occurred during IS outsourcing project process. This study tries to identify these risks using real option methodology. In order to perform this objective, this study set up the research model which is composed of two main concepts. The first one is the risk factors occurred during IS outsourcing project process: User's Risks, Supplier's Risks and Transaction's Risks. All of these risks are based on Transaction Cost Theory. The second one is the intention to get (or buy) Real Options to manage the risks. In the research model, two types of real option are included: option to abandon (put option) and option to defer (call option). This study uses questionnaires and statistics methodology (PLS) to analyze the hypotheses proposed in the research model. Compared with prior studies, this study is different in two ways. First, this study restricts the range of IT risks. Prior researches of IT Risk management in MIS area cover various range of IT risks, but this study focuses on the Korean SME's IT outsourcing risks on the basis of Transaction Cost Theory. This study tests the relationship between the risks and real option types. Second, this study tries to test the moderating effect of user's risks and supplier's risks on the relationship between transaction's risks and real option types. In IT outsourcing research area, almost studies focus on the direct relationships between IT risks and outsourcing success. But in reality, the co-relationship among IT risks may occur. There are some findings according to the research analysis. First, risks related with user's risks have strong causal relationships with the intention to get option to abandon (put) and option to defer. But risks related with supplier's risks have causal relationships only with option to abandon (put). Second, user's risks and supplier's risks have no moderating effect on the relationship between transaction's risks and real option types. According to the research results, this research have some important and interesting implications on the IS outsourcing business area. First, this study identifies the effective types of real option to minimize the risks occurred during the IT outsourcing projects. So IS outsourcing service users can manage (or minimize) effectively the risks, which occurred during outsourcing projects, using real options. Second, real option gives benefits to suppliers and users at the same time (i.e., win-win strategies between IS outsourcing service providers and users). Vendors (:IS outsourcing service providers) can offer users the real options which can minimize the occurrence of risks in time. "IN TIME" means that before the IS outsourcing project starts, vendors can offer users the opportunity to buy real options in appropriate prices to manage the possibility of the risks of IS outsourcing project. And users also have chance to minimize the IT outsourcing risks occurred during the project process using real options.

Development of the New Hybrid Evolutionary Algorithm for Low Vibration of Ship Structures (선박 구조물의 저진동 설계를 위한 새로운 조합 유전 알고리듬 개발)

  • This paper proposes a RSM-based hybrid evolutionary Algorithm (RHEA) which combines the merits of the popular programs such as genetic algorithm (GA), tabu search method and response surface methodology (RSM). This algorithm, for improving the convergent speed that is thought to be the demerit of genetic algorithm, uses response surface methodology and simplex method. The mutation of GA offers random variety to finding the optimum solution. In this study, however, systematic variety can be secured through the use of tabu list. Efficiency of this method has been proven by applying traditional left functions and comparing the results to GA. It was also proved that the newly suggested algorithm is very effective to find the global optimum solution to minimize the weight for avoiding the resonance of fresh water tank that is placed in the after body area of ship. According to the study, GA's convergent speed in initial stages is improved by using RSM method. An optimized solution is calculated without the evaluation of additional actual objective function. In a summary, it is concluded that RHEA is a very powerful global optimization algorithm from the view point of convergent speed and global search ability.
