  • We proposed and demonstrated DC(direct current) optical current sensor based on Faraday effect for HVDC(high voltage direct current). The RIG((Bi1.3Gd0.43Y1.27)Fe5O12) was adopted as Faraday device because of its high Verdet constant and good thermal stability. The differential amplification scheme for signal processing was present. The sensor showed high linear response for the input current. Measurement range of the sensor was 0~200A and measurement error was less than 1%.

  • Measuring the compressive strength of concrete is a very important factor in the safety review of concrete structures. Concrete compressive strength measurement methods include destructive and non-destructive methods. The destructive method includes the uniaxial compression failure method, and the non-destructive method includes the rebound hardness method and the elastic wave measurement method. In this study, the type of measurement method and the effect of reinforcing bars inside the concrete were tested to examine the relationship between them. Regardless of the type of specimen, the average compressive strength by the elastic wave measurement method among the three experimental methods was greater than the average compressive strength by the other methods. When the specimen type is the same, the standard deviation of the measured values of the elastic wave measurement method is smaller than that of the other measurement methods, so it can be seen that the elastic wave measurement method does not show large variance in the measured values compared to the other two measurement methods. When the average compressive strength according to the test method for each specimen was compared with the average compressive strength of the compressive failure test method, the average compressive strength was measured to be high in the order of the elastic wave measurement method, the compression failure test, and the rebound hardness method. Since the measured values of the compressive strength of concrete are different depending on the method of measuring the compressive strength of concrete and the presence or absence of reinforcing bars inside the concrete, further research is required considering the effect of various concrete covers.

  • There is a gap between the inner wall of a pulse tube and an underwater acoustic material when the measurement for transmission loss by the pulse tube is carried out. In this paper, the effect, which is caused by the gap, for the measurement of transmission loss is analyzed. Transmission coefficient is derived from the ratio of the pressures between front and rear of the gap. Then, transmission loss for specimen with a gap is obtained by combining the transmission coefficients of the gap and specimen. The results of experiment and simulation for a specimen of stainless steel with 10 mm thickness are compared in order to evaluate the simulation model. Finally, simulations with respect to the gap size and transmission loss of a specimen are performed to analyze and evaluate the effect of the gap in measurement of transmission loss.

  • In this paper, we will investigate the activation energies of Nb for $TiO_2$ using Hall effect measurement and photoluminescence (PL) system. Nb-doped $TiO_2$ thin film was grown on $SrTiO_3$ substrate by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. After measurements, activation energies of niobium donor were 14.52 meV in Hall effect measurement, and 6.72 meV in PL measurement, respectively. These results showed different tendencies which are measured from the samples with acceptor materials. Therefore, it is thought that more research on activation energies for dopants of shallow donor level is expected.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the combined application of manipulation and stabilization exercises on pain and spinal curvature in patients with chronic back pain. Design: Randomized controlled trial Methods: The research subjects included 24 women in their 40s and 50s who have chronic back pain. The sample was evenly divided into an experimental group, which received the combined application of manipulation and stabilization exercises, and a control group, which received stabilization exercises only. The 30-minute intervention was applied five times a week for eight weeks. A bivariate repeated measures analysis of variances was conducted to identify the differences between the two groups before the experiment, after the fourth week, and at the end of the eight-week experiment. The level of statistical significance was set at.05. This analysis examined the within-group changes and the between-group changes using a paired t-test and an independent t-test, respectively. Results: Changes in pain differed significantly depending on the time of the measurement, the interaction between the time of the measurement and each group, and between the two groups (p<.05). Changes in the curvature of the bones of the neck, the bones of the back, and the lumbar vertebrae differed significantly depending on the time of the measurement and the interaction between the time of the measurement and each group (p<.05). Conclusion: The combined application of manipulation and stabilization exercises demonstrated a positive effect on changes in pain and spinal curvature, and the method is expected to be a useful intervention for reducing pain and improving spinal curvature in patients with back pain.

  • This study was designed to investigate the effect of vibratory stimulation on recovery of muscle function from delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). Volunteers performed 3 set of 70 % maximal voluntary eccentric muscle contraction and induced DOMS. volunteers were allocated to one of three treatment group after DOMS : group I (control), group II (ultrasound), group III (vibration). Maximal Voluntary Isometric Contraction (MVIC), Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Range Of Motion (ROM), Root Mean Square (RMS), Median frequency (MDF), Blood Serum Creatine Kinase (CK), Lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) were recorded at baseline, and 24, 48, 72 hours post-exercise. In MVIC measurement, there was a statistically significant difference in group III compared to group I (p < .05). In VAS measurements, there were a statistically significant difference in group II and III compared to group I (p < .05). In ROM measurement, there was a statistically difference in group II and III compared to group I (p < .05). In Muscle Volume with Ultrasonography measurement, there was no statistically significant difference in any groups (p > .05). In RMS and MDF measurement, there were a statistically significant difference in group II and III compared to group I (p < .05). In Blood samples of CK and LDH measurements, There were no statistically significant difference in any groups (p > .05). From the above result, Vibratory stimulation had a positive effect on recovery of muscle function from delayed onset muscle soreness. Further studies should be undertaken to ascertain the more effectiveness of vibratory stimulation and may be a promising treatment modality.

  • We consider the following semi-parametric non-linear mixed effect regression model : y\ulcorner=f($\chi$\ulcorner;$\beta$)+$\sigma$$\mu$($\chi$\ulcorner)+$\sigma$$\varepsilon$\ulcorner,i=1,…,n,y*=f($\chi$;$\beta$)+$\sigma$$\mu$($\chi$) where y'=(y\ulcorner,…,y\ulcorner) is a vector of n observations, y* is an unobserved new random variable of interest, f($\chi$;$\beta$) represents fixed effect of known functional form containing unknown parameter vector $\beta$\ulcorner=($\beta$$_1$,…,$\beta$\ulcorner), $\mu$($\chi$) is a random function of mean zero and the known covariance function r(.,.), $\varepsilon$'=($\varepsilon$$_1$,…,$\varepsilon$\ulcorner) is the set of uncorrelated measurement errors with zero mean and unit variance and $\sigma$ is an unknown dispersion(scale) parameter. On the basis of finite-sample, small-dispersion asymptotic framework, we derive an absolute lower bound for the asymptotic mean squared errors of prediction(AMSEP) of the regular-consistent non-linear predictors of the new random variable of interest y*. Then we construct an optimal predictor of y* which attains the lower bound irrespective of types of distributions of random effect $\mu$(.) and measurement errors $\varepsilon$.
