  • This study examines the awareness of traditional Korean food culture among immigrant housewives in multicultural families, with the aim of introducing educational plans suitably designed for them. Our survey shows that Korean traditional holidays most well-known to the immigrant housewives are New Year's Day and Chusuk. Sambok and Chusuk are at the top in terms of preference. Samgyetang, Ddukguk, and Ogokbab are among the best known festive food to immigrant housewives for holidays such as New Year's Day, Jeongwol Daeboreum, Sambok, Chusuk, and Dongji; Samgyetang is the most preferred food, followed by Ddukguk and Patjuk. In addition, a vast majority of immigrant housewives who have ever attended Korean traditional cuisine education programs found the need for such an experience, with the score of 4.16 out of 5. In addition, the survey shows the order in which the immigrant housewives want to learn: the recipe of Korean food (53.5%), followed by table setting and manners (16.5%) and then nutrition (15%). The recipe of interest for most respondents is the one concerning daily food (69.5%). And more than half of the respondents prefer cooking practice as a desirable educational method. The difficulties that they have when attending such an educational course are usually inability to understand the language, difficulty in identifying the ingredients (seasonal), and lack of cultural understanding. The most preferred educational method is direct lecture (71.5%), followed by written materials such as books and newspaper (10.5%) and the Internet (9.5%). Finally, strategies for promoting traditional food culture are suggested as following: developing educational resources (31.5%), making various educational programs more available (25%), narrowing the cultural gap (22%), and improving the educational environment (21.5%). Therefore, this study proposes that there is a need to develop and diffuse Korean traditional food culture first, and then provide many immigrant housewives with a variety of educational programs. It is expected that these efforts will solve the problems caused by cultural differences in the early stage of international marriages and eventually contribute to the harmony in multicultural families.

An Effects of Student-teaching in Kindergarten through Educational Diary on Pre-service Teacher Efficacy, Teacher's Educational Belief and Organizational Health (유치원 교육실습에서 교육일기 쓰기가 예비유아교사의 교사 효능감, 교육신념 및 교사가 느끼는 조직건강에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm how keeping a educational diary in which no feedback is given in the teaching practice in kindergartens affects a teacher efficacy and the educational belief of preschool teachers-to-be as well as the organizational health of kindergartens to practice according to the way teachers feel. With this aim, the study aimed at 34 seniors at the Department of Early Childhood Education in the four-year college in Chungnam. The study conducted this experiment using the nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design, and carried out a $x^2$ analysis and a t-test according to the data. Concerning the research results, first, keeping a educational diary of teaching practice affirmatively affected a teacher efficacy. Second, it did not significantly affect a teacher's educational belief. Third, it did not significantly affect the organizational health of the kindergarten to practice according to the ways teachers-to-be feel. This study is meaningful in that keeping a reflective journal in which feedback by a guidance teacher for practice becomes the basic proposition may be replaced with the keeping of a diary of practice at the level of practicality. This means that a teacher's sense of efficacy may improve simply by keeping a educational diary of teaching practice without feedback by a guidance teacher.

  • The aim of this paper is to explore and understand, using in-depth interviews, the participant's motivation for becoming a math teacher, ways of dealing with university math knowledge and private tutoring experiences. In addition a larger aim is to understand how the individual's interest in mathematics and turing are linked to his/her larger personal tendencies contrasting secondary and university math learning. In-depth interviews were conducted with 6 pre-service teachers' subjective experiences focusing on motivation and feelings on mathematical knowledge and private tutoring. The output of this research consists of 3 cases, highlighting and conceptually developing the specific aspects under study; different ways in which individuals' involvement with the math learning and tutoring that might be connected with the ways of becoming teachers. Larger aspects of pre-service teachers' subjective experiences were sketched by contrasting the inner aspects of the individuals. Several suggestions were presented at the end with the possible research directions for math education.

  • Recently, there have been many changes in researches of mathematics education. There is a growing number of researchers who are interested in empirical researches. According to the these changes, there is also an emphasis on methodology of mathematics education. This means that many researchers try to conduct an research using scientific approach. Therefore, new types of research developing mathematics courses recently has evolved as follows: teaching experiment, hypothetical loaming trajectory, design science, developmental research. The aim of this study is to reflect on developmental research in RME and to induce desirable directions for developing our mathematics courses. In order to attain these purposes, the present paper reflects the philosophy of RME, aim, procedure, data collection, data analysis, and justification of developmental research with illustrating a exemplar Based on these reflections, it is discussed that it needs to construct the mathematics curriculum connecting theory and practice in mathematics education, to report the process of developing mathematics courses faithfully, and to develop real mathematics courses after conducting basic developmental researches in order to take scientific app- roaches for developing mathematics courses.

  • The aim of this study is to analyze how the context problems by prospective teachers are solved. In order to achieve this aim, this study examined the conceptual nature of context based on previous studies. I developed context problems about linear programming with reference to the results of the examination about the natural characterization of context. These problems were given to 44 prospective teachers and qualitative methods were used to analyze the data obtained from the written solutions by the participants. This study also developed the framework descriptors for this analysis in the light of the Mathematics Scoring Rubric from Illinois Department of Education(2005). The data was analyzed and interpreted in terms of this framework and the specific characteristics shown in the process of problem solving by the teachers were categorized into four types as a result.

  • The aim of the work that is presented in this paper is to develop the new prior educational materials which use the field trip and to present educational possibilities. The QR codes were used to develop the prior materials. The developed materials applied to elementary students who attended to filed trips in 2012. This was practically achieved by the use of smartphone which enhance the learning experience of a physical visit by providing personalized information with QR codes. The results demonstrate the technology supported physical field trips provides significantly improved learning outcomes, increases students curiosity. Furthermore the findings of the study demonstrate that the application of the specific emerging technologies could facilitate the development of advanced learning experiences in field trips, increasing at a significant level the learning outcomes and the motivation of the participating students.

  • While global warming and climate change have been issues with global implications for ecology and nature as well as for the economy, politics and social sector, Korean's climate change awareness has been reported to be low. This phenomenon can be attributed to the fact that there is neither a systematic and continuous educational program for climate change nor a system to implement and support it. Although environmental education traditionally has not been a center of focus in most schools, the move towards "green growth" in national policies are slowly influencing school education as well. Throughout the year 2009, Green Suncheon 21 has offered a program called 'Suncheon Climate School' designed for elementary schools and regional centers for underprivileged children. Program instructors were sent to schools and centers that requested such climate change education. The aim of this study is to evaluate the success of the program and to provide feedback on its impacts. According to the study, students' interests in climate change have increased after the climate change education, and students found the lectures to be informative and interesting. Students said that they became more aware of the serious consequences of global warming and climate change and found that such education is beneficial and should be available to a wider population. This study suggests that first, school teachers should be aware of climate change and support such educational programs to be a part of the regular curriculum. Second, the content and the level of the program should be designed in consideration of the corresponding school curriculum to make the subject relevant and accessible to students.
