  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the academic achievements, satisfaction and educational demands of nursing students at a college of nursing. Methods: The study subjects consisted of 134 senior nursing students who completed their clinical practicums. The students were asked to complete the evaluation survey for the curriculum. The evaluation survey for the curriculum consisted of three parts: 1) academic achievements of educational objectives, care of subjects, and skills; 2) satisfaction with the curriculum, clinical practice environment, and educational environment; 3) demands on the curriculum and clinical practicum. Results: The mean scores on the achievement levels of educational objectives, care of subjects and skills of the students were $3.68{\pm}0.53$, $3.69{\pm}0.59$, and $3.77{\pm}0.56$, respectively. The low rated domains were 'understanding and delivering culturally competent nursing' and 'competence in fundamental nursing skills' in their levels of achievements. Overall, students were satisfied with the nursing curriculum and educational environment. However, their satisfaction scores for the hours and arrangements of the clinical practicum, and the ratios and arrangements of lectures and clinical practicum were relatively low. Conclusion: The findings of this study are important to redesign nursing curriculum in order to prepare graduates for rapidly changing health care environments. We need to try various strategies to improve the clinical competencies of students by designing a curriculum based on social change and student needs.

One hundred and forty students completed the survey where data accrued from between March-May 2020. The educational needs for mental health nursing and nursing care schizophrenia patients were assessed using a self-reporting questionnaire, which included 19 and 15 items, respectively. Additional three essay questions were used to obtain information regarding previous simulation education experience. Higher educational needs in nursing care for schizophrenia were identified and the highest-priority need is communication skills. Factors, including realistic experience with standardized patients, teamwork, and feedback from the lecturers, affect positive experiences in mental health nursing simulation. The findings suggest that educational programs to improve communication skills are necessary for better mental health nursing competency. Well-designed and convergence based simulation programs providing real-like clinical experience would ensure optimal learning outcomes.

  • This study determined effective educational strategies by investigating and analyzing the related educational demands for SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) in the 4th Industrial Revolution based area of smart farms. In order to derive the approprate educational strategies, Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) and Borich's Needs Assessment Model were conducted based on the smart farm technological field. As a result, the education demand survey showed high demand for production systems and intelligent farm machinery. In detail, Borich's analysis showed the need for pest prevention and diagnosis technology (8.03), network and analysis SW linkage technology (7.83), and intelligent farm worker-agricultural power system-electric energy hybrid technology (7.43). In contrast, smart plant factories (4.09), lighting technology for growth control (4.46) and structure construction technology (4.62) showed low demands. Based on this, the IPA portfolio shows that the network and analysis SW linkage technology and the CAN-based complex center are urgently needed. However, the technology that has already been developed, such as smart factory platform development, growth control lighting technology and structure construction technology, was oversized. Based on these results, it is possible to strategically suggest the customized training programs for industrial sectors of SMEs that reflect the needs for efficiently operating smart farms. This study also provides effective ways to operate the relevant training programs.
