Facilitating Health Promotion Programs at the Local Level: An Educational Approach (지방자치단체의 건강증진사업 활성화 방안 - 교육적 접근을 중심으로 -)

  • This paper will discuss about how we can foster educational support mechanisms to facilitate health promotion programs at the local level. Health promotion in Korea is in the early developmental stage; it has only been since the Health Promotion Act was legislated in 1995, the health promotion programs have been planned and implemented. In the context of the recent decentralization process, local health departments have a major responsibility for developing and implementing health promotion programs at the local level. The short history of health promotion in Korea has meant that local public health departments have limited experience and organizational capacity for health promotion planning & practice. The results of one survey for investigating the progress of health promotion at the local level are instructive. The survey demonstrated that the public health workers recognized that the lack of personnels, insufficient budget, the lack of policy & the organizational support, the lack of skill & knowledge to be effective health promotors, the lack of guidance for health promotion practice were major barriers to implementing health promotion programs at the local level. The object of this paper is to suggest some ways of overcoming barriers to implementing health promotion programs at the local level This paper emphasizes on the importance of educational supports as well as environmental supports - legislative, policy, organizational, economical - in building the organizational capacity and infrastructure of local health department for health promotion. It suggests some ways of providing educational supports to the public health workers at the local level. and supports the positions that educational opportunities for training in health promotion can be better provided to the public health workers at the provincial level rather than at the national level. It argues that the educational & training programs should be developed and based on the educational need assessment; that the application of the main educational principles & theoretical models for health promotion be used to develop educational programs for the public health workers; and that professional health organizations should make plans to provide more educational programs at their annual conferences or at other convenient times. These kinds of educational supports facilitate the ability of public health workers to improve their capacity for health promotion practice at the local level and help to alleviate some of the pressure on state resources.

A Study on the Educational Gap and Supporting Policy in USA (미국의 교육격차와 지원정책 분석)

  • The aims of this study are to clarify the reality of the educational gap and supporting policy in USA, and to get the implications for improving the educational gap in Korea. The differences of parents' academic background and income make the differences of children's academic abilities. Especially, economic income difference rather than racial difference makes education gap. This tendency has gradually been fixed problem in USA society. The United States is making efforts to alleviate the educational gap based on the ESSA, and the educational support policy for rural areas has been greatly expanded. The ESSA has more practically changed its existing support through the Rural Education Achievement Program. In order to solve the educational gap based on the U.S. case, we discussed differentiated educational goals for each region, strengthened support for marginalized areas, disparities in educational expenses by region, and regular monitoring of rural areas and schools with low educational achievement.

  • Nowadays, the knowledge of modern society through education has become more and more complicated. The education system and the educational philosophy have created various education systems and methods for each country due to the difference of history and culture. In Korea, there are various teaching methods in recent years. However, if the traditional teaching method in Korea is based on educating teachers with a good understanding of the contents taught, some foreign countries such as USA and Germany can express their thoughts of the total population. In this situation, this study researches cases of other countries that have different educational systems from ours. It compares the differences of social background, educational program, and educational space in Germany, Singapore and the United States. As a result of this study, the following contents can be derived. The educational program is based on the social background of each country and plans an educational space suitable for the education program. In Germany, the emphasis is on the students' experience and community consciousness rather than on the amount of knowledge, so a home base space is planned between the classrooms to solve the problem of lack of solidarity and belonging among the students who are lacking in the curriculum. Some practical courses are run in the community. In Singapore, educational programs are elite-oriented compared to the other country, and because of the typical tropical climate, educational facilities are characterized by a lot of common space in semi-exterior space. Many schools in the United States have IMC in the central part of their schools that adopt self-directed learning and discussion.

  • This study examines many preceding studies on school space, including the high school credit system, and attempts to present the importance after deriving the most appropriate factors when constructing an educational environment of the high school credit system. Based on the derived importance level, the purpose of this study was to provide information that is helpful for the implementation of the educational environment of the high school credit system in each school and to establish and present a model from an academic perspective by deriving the importance of the educational environment according to the high school credit system. As a research method, the importance of the educational environment was analyzed through the Analytic Hierarchy Process. The result of the analysis indicated that it is necessary to consider the interrelationship between the educational curriculum and the educational environment, which selectively and intensively performs functions and maximizes the effect according to the strategic importance of the educational environment.

A Case Study of Educational Effectiveness by Software Subjects for Humanities College Students

  • Recently, the topics of SW liberal-arts education are diversifying, from 'Computational Thinking(CT)' to 'Programming, Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence(AI)' in universities. We expect that the diversification of SW liberal-arts subjects does not just mean that the learning contents are different, but also differentiates the educational goals and educational effects of each subject. In this paper, we conducted a case study to analyze the educational effect according to the educational goals of two SW liberal-arts subjects, CT and Data Analysis Fundamentals(DA), for humanities college students. We confirmed that the educational effect of 'CT Efficacy' increased significantly in accordance with the common educational goal of 'Improving CT-based SW convergence competency' in both subjects. However, we also analyzed the difference in the educational effects of 'CT(the goal of basic SW education)' and 'DA(the goal of major-friendly SW education)', which have different subject goals. 'CT' mainly showed an educational effect on how to solve general daily problems, and 'DA' showed confidence in how to solve major problems along with general problems.

Coping with Educational Disadvantages of Foster Children : Educational Expectations and Involvement Foster Parents (위탁아동의 학업성취향상 요인에 관한 연구 : 위탁부모의 교육에 대한 관심과 참여 중심으로)

  • This study used secondary data of the Illinois Subsidized Guardianship Waiver Demonstration, Chicago Public Schools and administrative data of the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services. Multiple regression analysis was the main statistical method. Results revealed a positive effect of foster parents' expectations on educational achievement of foster children without disabilities. Among types of educational involvement, 'direct educational activities' showed a positive effect on math and 'supervision reported by children' showed a positive effect on reading achievement. Among indices of the quality of relationship: the presence of kinship ties, permanence achievement, and level of affection between foster parents and children, only level of affection had a significant positive association with both math and reading achievement.

  • The trend toward more welfare living because of more leisure time has influenced the popularity of the community facilities in apartment housing. According to the residents' increasing interests for well-being life the changes and developments of the community facilities have been required in these days. The purpose of this research is to study these required changes and developments by analyzing the resident's using behavior of community facilities in apartment housing focusing on the educational and cultural facilities. For this purpose, this research intends to examine the existing conditions and problems of educational and cultural community facilities in apartment housing and to analyze the residents' using patterns such as frequency, preference and to comprehend the additional needs and requirements of the residents. The conclusions and suggestions of this research can be a basic data for the architects to design a resident-oriented educational and cultural community facilities.

Teacher-Mother Communication : Its Effect on Satisfaction with Early Childhood Educational Institutions and on Parenting Stress (교사-어머니의 의사소통과 어머니의 유아교육기관 만족도 및 양육스트레스)

  • This study reviewed communication between mothers and teachers of early childhood educational institutions and the effect of communication on mothers' satisfaction with the institution and on parenting stress. Results showed that (1) the most discussed topic pertained to children's friendships at the educational institutions. (2) Attitudes during communication were comparatively favorable. (3) Increased communication of mothers with the teachers showed increased satisfaction with the early childhood educational institution. (4) Mothers with positive understanding of communication and understanding of teachers showed higher satisfaction rate towards the early childhood educational institution. (5) Mothers showing higher satisfaction towards early childhood educational institution and positive attitudes during communication with teachers exhibited less parenting stress.

  • Amid the rapidly changing constructional business conditions, the volume of BTL business sectors has expanded largely during two or three years. Especially, construction works fur educational facilities of elementary, middle and high schools has been performed by the mid-sized construction companies who are not capable of doing effective and systematic quality management while the requirements of the customers are getting higher and higher. In order to have a flexible deal with the rapidly changing business conditions and also to enhance the quality level, it is the high time to reorganize the effective quality management systeme by doing the overall analysis about the quality defects in construction site. Accordingly through the investigation about the quality defects in the construction sites of domestic educational facilities, this study will focus on what kind of quality defects show. It is aimed at providing the preliminary data for the establishment of quality management fur the construction site of the domestic educational facilities by analysing the investigation results.

  • Nowadays, the number of school students in rural area has decreased significantly. For this reason, there are mixed classes among students of different grades in schools in rural area. Moreover, there are several teachers who teach two and more subjects except for the major of teacher so educational environment has been deteriorated. To tackle this problem, the ministry of education has suggested merging small schools in rural area. However, some people believe that merging small schools would make educational environment more worse and would not solve this problem. To solve this problem, this research suggests that the proper solution for educational environment of merging small schools through surveying environment of merging schools.
