DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF CRACKED BEAMS AND SHALLOW ARCHES

  • We develop a rigorous mathematical framework for studying dynamic behavior of cracked beams and shallow arches. The governing equations are derived from the first principles, and stated in terms of the subdifferentials of the bending and the axial potential energies. The existence and the uniqueness of the solutions is established under various conditions. The corresponding mathematical tools dealing with vector-valued functions are comprehensively developed. The motion of beams and arches is studied under the assumptions of the weak and strong damping. The presence of cracks forces weaker regularity results for the arch motion, as compared to the beam case.

  • This paper presents an overview of six strategic entry points for sustainability in the context of the construction/engineering curriculum. It compares the pedagogical costs and benefits of each approach and shares lessons learned from experiences at two leading public American universities: Georgia Institute of Technology and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. The paper discusses opportunities in terms of two perspectives on the pedagogy of sustainability: Stealthy Sustainability and Flagrant Sustainability, as part of a strategy of diffusion and routinization of this innovation within existing curricula. The paper concludes with a discussion of considerations that should be taken into account when evaluating the potential for sustainability in new educational contexts.

  • Cracks in beams and shallow arches are modeled by massless rotational springs. First, we introduce a specially designed linear operator that "absorbs" the boundary conditions at the cracks. Then the equations of motion are derived from the first principles using the Extended Hamilton's Principle, accounting for non-conservative forces. The variational formulation of the equations is stated in terms of the subdifferentials of the bending and axial potential energies. The equations are given in their abstract (weak), as well as in classical forms.

  • National support for use of IPTV in school has increased for the purpose of enhancing public education. As a convergence media, IPTV is expected to create a better and more successful learning experience with individualized content and advanced technology. While the potential benefits of IPTV have been discussed in different perspectives, we cannot fully benefit from new media without careful preparation and pedagogical consideration. Therefore, purpose of this study was to investigate educational use and applicability of IPTV in Korea. First, it redefines the concept and characteristics of IPTV in an educational context. Second, it identifies the main issues and considerations in practice. Lastly, the paper discusses guidelines for future tasks to facilitate the educational use of IPTV in terms of educational application, technological issues (e.g., LMS, set-top box), and content development.

  • We proposed a method for visual place recognition that represents images using objects as visual words. Visual words represent the various objects present in urban environments. To detect various objects within the images, we implemented and used a zero-shot detector based on a large-scale image language model. This zero-shot detector enables the detection of various objects in urban environments without additional training. In the process of creating histograms using the proposed method, frequency-based weighting was applied to consider the importance of each object. Through experiments with open datasets, the potential of the proposed method was demonstrated by comparing it with another method, even in situations involving environmental or viewpoint changes.

Overall, satellite technology has immense potential for improving agricultural efficiency, resilience, and sustainability in the face of evolving environmental challenges.

  • In this paper, we explore the application of Kodaly hand signs in enhancing children's music education, performances, and auditory assistance technologies. This research focuses on improving the recognition rate of Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) models in identifying Kodaly hand sign scales through the integration of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). We developed an enhanced MLP model by augmenting it with additional parameters and optimizing the number of hidden layers, aiming to substantially increase the model's accuracy and efficiency. The augmented model demonstrated a significant improvement in recognizing complex hand sign sequences, achieving a higher accuracy compared to previous methods. These advancements suggest that our approach can greatly benefit music education and the development of auditory assistance technologies by providing more reliable and precise recognition of Kodaly hand signs. This study confirms the potential of parameter augmentation and hidden layers optimization in refining the capabilities of neural network models for practical applications.

  • The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy of the photovoice method as an educational tool. To do so, the theoretical frameworks that inform its use were analyzed. Many educators have identified the potential of photovoice as a valuable tool for fostering critical reflection. This is because photovoice enriches the research process by allowing students to express their thoughts visually and verbally, thereby revealing structures of knowledge that are challenging to access through conventional methods. We have implications for teacher education and teacher research methodologies. Photovoice can serve as a platform for teachers to actively express their perspectives, contribute to practical knowledge generation, influence reflection, and facilitate meaningful dialogues within the educational community.

  • Generally, learning tools like robots are being mainly used as teaching aids to enhance creativity of a group of students who are superior in their studies and have an excellent potential in private education. This study uses a relatively cheap line tracer as a teaching aid and connects it with regular subjects so that elementary school higher graders showing academic achievement lower than average can get robot learning. This research developed a line tracer learning curriculum and teaching materials for total 12 sessions and taught students showing academic achievement below average and evaluated them after. According to the result of evaluating their achievement levels based on their results of learning in each session, most of the students with low academic achievement was evaluated to understand most of the contents in the curriculum fully. Through its empirical implementation, this paper has found the possibilities of robot education connected with the regular curriculum for elementary students exhibiting relatively lower academic achievement.

  • In general, it is this variety of learning methods and teaching tools for embedded software development and deployment training. In this paper, I want to take advantage of the smart robot to learn creative problem-solving methods that are required in embedded software engineering education. It analyzes the effect of creative engineering education with the smart robot and presents for RSPM Engineering Embedded SW teaching methods to improve NCS education. Embedded SW engineering education in a more creative and smart robot, EV3 system was utilized to improve SW programming skills. In this paper, we utilize the EV3 system to the parish through the creative RSPM engineering courses through the survey and analysis of the impact level, interests and program skills and influence in embedded SW engineering education propose for successful embedded software programming skills potential.
