A new reference point location method using the cosine component is proposed, where an edge map is defined and used to find the reference point. Because all processes used in the proposed method are performed at the block level, less processing time is required. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively detect the reference point with higher speed and accuracy for all types of fingerprints.
This paper addresses the factors hindering the image quality of lines in inkjet printed on polyester fabric as printing media. Lines were printed onto different types of polyester fabrics in warp and filling directions. Line image quality including line width, edge blurriness, and edge raggedness was assessed. The effect of capillary wicking on line image quality of printed spun polyester fabric is discussed. The factors on the image quality include printing position(top of the yam or between the yarn), printing direction(warp or filling), yarn structures(filament or spun), thread size(yam or fiber), finishing, and ink properties(evaporation rate). More than 30% differences in image quality results were observed by changing the printing location on the spun polyester fabric. The best results of the image quality were obtained with the printed plain and spun polyester fabrics. The fiber sizes may affect capillary size; therefore, the image quality can be dissimilar. Types of finishing materials and inks greatly improve the line image quality on spun polyester fabrics.
This study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of spatial distributon patterns of users by each type of recreational activities at lawn areas in the parks. Study sites were lawn areas at Kyungju World and Seorabul Plaza in Bomun Resort Complex in Kyungju, Korea. Space types by each recreation activities are Repose Type, Sports Type, Play Type and Strolling Type. Main results are as follows ; 1. Sport Type activities were mainly distributed at the central areas of each lawn areas. 2.The density of Sports Type activities were affected by the form of lawn areas. For natural control of excess dynamic activities, Complex Form has more advantage in the distribution of dynamic activities. So, as the form of lawn areas in the parks, complex form is more desirable. 3.Repose Typo activities were distributed at marginal areas of lawns and surrounding woods. These, the static activities, were affected by Edge Effect in spatial distribution of activities. 4.Play Typo activities also were distributed at marginal areas of lawns. It was also affected by Edge Effect in spatial distribution. 5.Strolling Type activities were distributed evenly over all lawn areas.

Impact behaviors of Aluminum Honeycombs Sandwich Panel(AHSP) by drop weight test were investigated. Two types of specimens with 1/2" and 1/4" cell size were tested by two impactors which are weight of $5.25\textrm{kg}_{\textrm{f}}$ and $11.9\textrm{kg}_{\textrm{f}}$. Parametric studies were achieved including the impactor weight and impact sites which consist face, long-edge, short-edge, and point of the specimen. Face one of impact sites was the strongest and short-edge one of impact sites was the weakest. The damaged area of AHSP was enlarged with the increase of impactor weight that is equal to impact energy. After 3 point bending test, fracture modes of AHSP were analyzed with AE counts. Lower facesheet was fractured in the long-edge direction and then separated between facesheet and core. In the short-edge direction after core wrinkled, lower facesheet tear occurred. Impact behavior by FE analysis were increased localized damage in fast velocity because the faster velocity of the impact was, the smaller the stress of core was. Consequently, impactor weight had an effect on widely damaged area, while the impact velocity was caused on the localized damaged area.aged area.

This study is concerned with the analysis of cutting force system acting on ball-nose end mill in three-dimensional surface machining process. Conical tipped circular cutting edge element model and free surface machining process types are proposed to apply oblique cutting theory, and then derived equations are used for numerical approach of cutting force curves by matrix method. This approach has a good agreement with experimental results both in magnitude and shape within the range of 15 percent, which was conformed on 6061-T6 aluminum workpiece having twofold curvatured surface. From the cutting load variation to edge location, it is confirmed that circular cutting edge shapes has a better cutting ability than that of straight and both have a singularity near a tool point. It is also verified that what kind of machining condition is recommendable for three-dimensional machining process in connection with deflection of the cutter to workpiece and tool point wearing or system stability.
An eccentrically-loaded single edge crack tension specimen (ESET) is similar to a compact tension(CT) specimen loaded in tension-tension. The standard ESET specimen exhibits advantages over other types of cracked specimen, such as n, single-edge crack, and middle-crack tension specimen. The details of ESET specimen configuration, test procedure, and calculations are described in ASTM E647 standard. However, a difficulty in attaching COD gage to the knife-edge on the front foe of the specimen can be found when the size of ESET specimen is small for rapid cooling and heating in thermal fatigue testing. The finite element analysis is performed for the ESET specimen with projected knife-edge on the front foe and a crack-length-compliance equation is suggested for the new specimen configuration. Calibration test are conducted with 347 stainless steel to compare the measured crack length with the calculated crack length from the suggested compliance expression. The test results showed good agreements with those of analysis.

Human visual systems are sensitive to noise on the flat intensity area. But it becomes less sensitive on the edge area. Recently, many types of spatially adaptive image restoration methods have been proposed, which employ the above mentioned huan visual characteristics. The present paper presents an adaptive image restoration method, which increases sharpness of the edge region, and smooths noise on the flat intensity area. For edge detection, the proposed method uses the visibility function based on the local variance on each pixel. And it adaptively changes the regularization parameter. More specifically, the image to be restored is divided into a number of steps from the flat area to the edge regio, and then restored by using the finite impulse response constrained least squares filter.
To solve the edge ringing or block effect caused by the partial differential diffusion in image enhancement domain, a new image enhancement algorithm based on bidirectional diffusion, which smooths the flat region or isolated noise region and sharpens the edge region in different types of defect images on aviation composites, is presented. Taking the image pixel's neighborhood intensity and spatial characteristics as the attribute descriptor, the presented bidirectional diffusion model adaptively chooses different diffusion criteria in different defect image regions, which are elaborated are as follows. The forward diffusion is adopted to denoise along the pixel's gradient direction and edge direction in the pixel's smoothing area while the backward diffusion is used to sharpen along the pixel's gradient direction and the forward diffusion is used to smooth along the pixel's edge direction in the pixel's edge region. The comparison experiments were implemented in the delamination, inclusion, channel, shrinkage, blowhole and crack defect images, and the comparison results indicate that our algorithm not only preserves the image feature better but also improves the image contrast more obviously.
Existing edge discovery techniques only found edges of defined shapes based on precise definitions of edges. Therefore, there are many limitations in finding edges for images of complex and diverse shapes that exist in the real world. A method for solving these problems and discovering various types of edges is a cost minimization method. In this method, the cost function and cost factor are defined and used. This cost function calculates the cost of the candidate edge model generated according to the candidate edge generation strategy. If a satisfactory result is obtained, the corresponding candidate edge model becomes the edge for the image. In this study, a new candidate edge generation strategy was proposed to discover edges for images of more diverse shapes in order to improve the disadvantage of only finding edges of a defined shape, which is a problem of the cost minimization method. In addition, the contents of improvement were confirmed through a simple simulation that reflected these points.
In this study, the influence of centrally placed circular and square cutouts on vibration and buckling characteristics of different ply-oriented laminated panels under the action of compressive and/or tensile types of non-uniform in-plane edge loads are investigated. The panels are inspected under the action of uniaxial compression, uniaxial tension and biaxial, compression-tension, loading configurations. Furthermore, the effects of different degrees of edge restraints and panel aspect ratios are also addressed in this work. Towards this, a nine-node heterosis plate element has been adopted which includes the effect of shear deformation and rotary inertia. According to the results, the tensile buckling loads are higher than that of compressive buckling loads. However, the tensile buckling load continuously reduces with the increased cutout sizes irrespective of ply-orientations. This is also true for compressive buckling loads except for some particular ply-orientations with higher sized cutouts.
