  • In the revised 2015 curriculum, it is emphasized that fostering of the students as the capable 'creativity-convergent' individuals can be achieved by offering them the opportunities to cultivate the basic knowledge in liberal arts, society and scientific technologies through schooling. While retaining the basic principle of 'fostering creative people', this fundamentally-reformed curriculum involves improvements in the elementary and middle school curriculums in response to the national and social demands in which active responses to the changes in the educational environments and amelioration of the problems posed in the field applications are required. Accordingly, a novel future-oriented curriculum is necessary for the classroom teaching, and to realize the goal, the 'Competence-oriented Social Multimedia Computer Network Curriculum' adopting the virtualization and the 'Bottom-up' methods has been proposed in this paper as a feasible and practical curriculum. Our curriculum will be compared with the recent Cisco high school curriculum and analyzed contemplating recent curriculums in US, UK, Japan and India. Two 1-year practice courses are examined to prove the validity of the proposed curriculum for a period of two years as a qualitative research project. The results of the comparative analysis will show that our proposed curriculum is superior to the Cisco high school curriculum in the aspects of economic feasibility and learning satisfaction.

  • The industrial ecosystem around the Internet services has been evolving since the Internet was first introduced. The Net Neutrality issue best represents the process of the evolution and presents an inevitable challenge that the industry should overcome. This paper deals with this structural change with the Two-Sided Market framework and provides a System Dynamics(SD) model to evaluate the economic implications of the net neutrality policy. In particular, our approach analyzes the policy impacts when two competing platforms (network providers) play a role of the platform in a typical two-sided market, which connects Content Providers(CPs) with users. Previous studies show that the indirect network externality between these two markets makes the entire system tip to one platform. When the multi-homing in the CP market is allowed as in our model, however, their argument may lose its validity. To examine the system behavior, conducted here is SD simulations of our model. The simulation results show that co-existence of the competing platforms persists with the network effects over a certain threshold. The net neutrality policy seems to lower the threshold based on our experimental outcomes.

  • This study examines the effects of the "youth unemployment bonus" program implemented in 2004. We view this program through the lenz of search-matching models and apply a quasi-experimental approach to an administrative unemployment insurance database of Korea. This episode is particularly useful because the program aims at long-term unemployed youths and the size of public assistance is large enough to subsidize employers for a year with a monthly subsidy of about $600. The main effects are found to be as follows: (i) the search period gets shortened by 18 days, (ii) the subsequent wage has increased by about three percents, and (iii) a conservative benefit-cost analysis reveals the validity of this program. We interpret these results in the context of general equilibrium models.

  • The performance of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) chipset and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors embedded in smartphones for location-based services (LBS) is limited due to the economic reasons for their mass production. Therefore, it is necessary to efficiently process the output data of the smartphone's embedded sensors in order to derive the optimum navigation values and, as a previous step, output performance of smartphone embedded sensors needs to be verified. This paper analyzes the navigation performance of such devices by processing the raw measurements data output from smartphones. For this, up-to-dated versions of smartphones provided by Samsung (Galaxy s10e) and Xiaomi (Mi 8) are used in the test experiment to compare their performances and characteristics. The GNSS and IMU data are extracted and saved by using an open market application software (Geo++ RINEX Logger & Mobile MATLAB), and then analyzed in post-processing manner. For GNSS chipset, data is extracted from static environments and verified the position, Carrier-to-Noise (C/N0), Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) performance. For IMU sensor, the validity of navigation and various location-based-services is predicted by extracting, storing and analyzing data in static and dynamic environments.

  • Outbreaks of highly contagious livestock diseases can cause direct and indirect economic impacts such as lower productivity of cattle farms, fall in tourism in damaged areas and countries, and decline in exports. They also incur tremendous social costs associated with disease elimination and restoration work. Thus, it is essential to prevent livestock diseases through monitoring and prediction efforts. Currently, however, it is still difficult to provide accurate predictive information regarding occurrences of livestock diseases, because existing cattle health monitoring or forecasting systems are only limited to monitor environmental conditions of livestock barns and check activities of cattle by using a pedometer or thermal image. In this paper, we present a biosensor-based cattle health monitoring system capable of collecting bio-signals of farm animals in an effective way. For the presented monitoring system, we design an integrated monitoring device consisting of a sensing module to measure bio-signals of cattle such as the heartbeat, the breath rate and the momentum, as well as a Zigbee module designed to transmit the biometric data based on Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). We verify the validity of the monitoring system by the comparison of the correlations of designed device with a commercial ECG equipment through analyzing the R-peak of measured signals.

  • On most construction sites, the arrangement of tower cranes is decided by site engineers based on their own experience, which can cause cost overruns and delays in the lifting work. Although many researchers have conducted studies on tower crane arrangement using computer modeling and knowledge-based expert systems as well as mathematical models, no research has aimed to develop an algorithm to identify an optimum solution among several alternatives for installation areas of tower cranes satisfying the conditions of lifting work. The objective of this study is to develop an automatic arrangement algorithm for tower cranes used in high-rise apartment construction. First, as a new concept, a possible installation area of tower cranes was suggested. Second, after proposing several alternatives based on the installation points suggested in this study, an algorithm analyzing the economic feasibility of tower cranes was developed considering the rental, installation and removal costs. Third, a case study was conducted to prove the validity of the developed algorithm for selecting and installing an effective set of tower cranes at minimum cost.

  • Butterfly valves are popularly used in service in the industrial and water works pipeline systems with large diameter because of its lightweight, simple structure and the rapidity of its manipulation. Sometimes cavitation can occur. resulting in noise, vibration and rapid deterioration of the valve trim, and do not allow further operation. Thus, the monitoring of cavitation is of economic interest and is very importance in industry. This paper proposes a condition monitoring scheme using statistical feature evaluation and support vector machine (SVM) to detect the cavitation conditions of butterfly valve which used as a flow control valve at the pumping stations. The stationary features of vibration signals are extracted from statistical moments. The SVMs are trained, and then classify normal and cavitation conditions of control valves. The SVMs with the reorganized feature vectors can distinguish the class of the untrained and untested data. The classification validity of this method is examined by various signals that are acquired from butterfly valves in the pumping stations and compared the classification success rate with those of self-organizing feature map neural network.
