As tourist and cultural city, Chungju city struggles to exploit the new tourism resources including lighting scenic spots. This study aims to analyze the present lighting situations and suggest the alternatives for improving outdoor lightings of Hoamji Park - one of the most famous landmark in Chungju city. For the purpose, field surveys and experiments were performed on selected settings. Illumination levels were measured to compare with the KS standard by using MINOLTA T-10 instruments and some findings were discussed. As a result, some alternatives to improve the park's night images including new lighting concept, lighting fixtures and installations were suggested.

Open housing is an emerging, new concept in housing development that combines demand-orientation with environment-friendliness. Its methodology, however, has not been analyzed in a systematic way. In this study, the features of planning method in open housing were analyzed to systematize types of the planning method. The existing planning methods of open housing was reviewed and they can be classified into three approaches such as pattern, module and organization planning. Given three approaches, the existing planning methods of open housing can be sub-classified as follows; free and patterned planning by patterns, modular and non-modular planning by modules, and hierarchical and non-hierarchial planning by organizations. The framework for the typological analysis was made based on the classification and a composite typological system was drawn from the analysis of the existing planning features. The suggested classification of features in open housing is expected to contribute to the clear definition of characteristics on open housing to provide a basis for the concrete realization method, to analyzing problems with the existing planning methods and to providing their solutions.

Environmental quality(EQ) is one of the most important components of the assessment of "Quality of Life(QOL)". Most EQ related research dealt with overall built environmental quality issues as represented by several clusters of factors related to occupants' satisfaction. This paper aims to identify and understand the theoretical background and the occupants' comparative standards of response to conditions of the built environment related to environmental quality(EQ). Therefore, this paper have reviewed the theoretical framework and empirical research for environmental quality in built environment. the concept of environmental quality if elaborated from diverse perspectives. Different ways of interpreting environmental quality have led to a variety of ways to conduct evaluations. A review of the theories and methods used for the analysis of perceived environmental quality provides a strong foundation for new research frameworks and environmental quality in built environment.

This paper proposes the planning and design of the Eco-village centering around Chindo-ri, Muju-kun. The Eco-village project has three basic objects the Eco-village residents' lives adapting to ecological principles such as regeneration and circulation, life agricultural techniques based on organic cycle, and residents' harmonious lives with the surrounding nature. For constructing of the Eco-village, first, the subject area was analyzed in terms of the natural and cultural environment and then, on this analytic ground the concrete concept and the specific plan were set up. The following details also should be considered: the scale of the residential household, the population, the space arrangement of the village, the material cycling structure, the waste treatment, the purification of the sewage, the energy supply, the landscape architecture, the production activity, the conservation of the ecosystem and so on.

This study suggested practical application of decision aid tool on re-evaluation of current buildings with a focus on a energy and economics evaluation methodology. In Europe, over forty percent of all construction activities are for retrofit. For efficient construction, various tools for re-evaluating existing buildings have been developed and are in use. Legislations of relevant laws and studies are actively initiated. In particular, EPIQR (Energy Performance Indoor environment Quality Retrofit), which was developed through the EU's Third and Fourth Framework Programs laid a foundation on a new concept-based decision aid tool for re-evaluation of existing buildings. As for actual applications, based on this, EPIQR+ was developed to be in line with a building maintenance guideline (SIA 469) and is actively applied to public buildings. This tool quantifies the degree of damages of existing buildings and suggests alternatives to users in energy (SIA 380/1) and economical perspectives. This study examined these preceding tools and suggested some trenchant approaching for more comprehensive and efficient use of re-evaluation tools in building maintenance.

The fluctuation of old climate was studied by the analysis of radial growth in trees, since 1782. For the effects of environmental factors on the radial growth, the authors proposed the relative radial growth(Rg) concept modified the emperical equation of Fritts (1969) as follow: Yt=aebt Yt: theoretical annual ring width time t a and b: constants in different tree species Rg=Yt/Yt Rg: ratio of real radial growth to theoretical growth with age Yt: real annual radial growth Used the Rg value, the relationship between climatic conditions and the radial growth during 70 years was investigated, and the fluctuations in climate during the last 200 years with the historical records was detected.

As the problems of environment have been increasing, the architecture is exploring ways toward development of a idea for future generation. The purpose of this study is design element of environment-friendly architecture, and a general concept and mark of environment-friendly architecture are considered. And then, the design element is analyzed to come true the mark by considering the internal and external examples. The related elements on design of environment-friendly architecture are proposed by considering estimation items: The items are divided into six branches that is placement strategy, outside space furtherance, form of building, room environment furtherance, supply processing system, and preservation administration. Through this process, this study is proposed applicable solution of a concrete plan.

The issue of sustainability has been prevailed not only in building industry but also all other industries. It has been raised that the concept of sustainability should take into account for the design of multi-use high-rise apartments. In this study, the present situation and trends of the multi-use high-rise apartment construction have been reviewed. The definition of sustainable design of high-rise apartment has been clarified so as to perceive the related design elements through the literature survey. Finally this study has derived the sustainable design elements of high-rise apartment unit plans through the comparative analysis of sustainable design guidelines, environmentally friendly building accreditation systems and literature survey in and abroad.

The improvement of the life standard of the public by the economical growth leads their interests to the leisure activities, so that the demand for resort facilities has been increased. Especially, casino resort facilities in Kangwon-Do has been developed continuously without exact concept of casino resort design. This resort facilities has been planned by indiscreet imitation of foreign examples and non-organized developments and etc. One of the reasons for these problems may be from the lack of the knowledges and researches related to the architectural approaching of these facilities. The purpose of this study is to provide the basic informations for better understanding and improvement of planning and design direction for these facilities through a survey the famous casino resort facilities in Las Vegas. As a result of this research, Las Vegas has been changed tremendously from the casino resort to the resort complex for families with special theme and various facilities.

In order to clarify and redefine theoretical concepts of consumptions in modern society, the study examines currently enlarging and changing concepts of consumptions. Definitely, the modern society is transferred from industrial society to consumer society, and the meaning of recent consumptions is changed and expanded. In other words, it is important to investigate new cultures and concepts of modern consumptions beyond the fixed perceptions of past consumptions. Today, consumptions in modem society are more than just consumptions. It is not only Physical needs but also Psychological needs of individuals who live in modern society. Hence, this study analyzes and redefines the concepts in modem society's consumptions with respect to set of variables: personal, social, commercial, cultural, and ecological.
