Performance monitoring of offshore PHC pipe pile using BOFDA-based distributed fiber optic sensing system

  • Brillouin Optical Frequency Domain Analysis (BOFDA) is a distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) technique that has unique advantages for performance monitoring of piles. However, the complicated production process and harsh operating environment of offshore PHC pipe piles make it difficult to apply this method to pile load testing. In this study, sensing cables were successfully pre-installed into an offshore PHC pipe pile directly for the first time and the BOFDA technique was used for in-situ monitoring of the pile under axial load. High-resolution strain and internal force distributions along the pile were obtained by the BOFDA sensing system. A finite element analysis incorporating the Degradation and Hardening Hyperbolic Model (DHHM) was carried out to evaluate and predict the performance of the pile, which provides an improved insight into the offshore pile-soil interaction mechanism.

  • This paper presents thermal behaviors and performances of a fresh air load reduction system by using earth tube system combined with air-heated solar collector. The earth tube system reduces a fresh air load by heat exchange with soil throughout the year. In the previous experimental research, it was clarified that the earth tube system was very useful as a fresh air load reduction system. However, since outlet temperature of the fresh air which was heated by earth tube system was below 15$^{\circ}C$ in winter, it is not suitable to introduce the fresh air into the place of residence directly. Therefore, a simulation model using the simple heat diffusion equation was used to examine a rising effect of outlet air temperature in winter by combining with air-heated solar collector. An improvement of annual performance by control of operation is also quantitatively examined. In conclusion, it is confirmed that its performance is improved by control of operation throughout the year and outlet air temperature rose by combining with air-heated solar collector.

  • When enforced earth is used for the retain wall and four walls, the most important thing would be how to maximize the land utilization. Accordingly, in case of enforced earth, we pile up the minimal height of earth$(20\sim30cm)$ and harden the earth using a static dynamic hardening machine. In this paper, we tried to analyze and. compare the stress transformation characteristics of reinforced weathered granite soil. with geosynthetics when repetitive load is added to the enforced earth structure and when static load is added. The purposes of the study are as follows; 1) To compare and analyze non reinforced weathered granite soil and reinforced weathered granite. soil by executing a unconsolidated-undrained triaxial compression tests. 2) To identify the strength characteristics of weathered granite soil reinforced with geotextile due to the repetitive dynamic loads through comparison of the stress due to the static load and the repetitive dynamic loads.

고성능 저궤도 지구관측위성의 예비연성하중 해석결과에 대한 평가 (An Assessment on the Preliminary Coupled Load Analysis Results for Advanced Low Earth Orbit Earth Observation Satellite)

  • 본 논문에서는 고성능 저궤도 지구관측위성의 예비연성하중 해석결과에 대하여 평가한다. 연성하중해석을 수행하기 위하여 위성체 모델을 Craig-Bampton 모델로 축약한 후 발사체 개발업체로 제공하였다. 제공된 Craig-Bampton 모델은 인공위성의 질량행렬, 강성행렬, 가속도변환행렬 및 변위변환행렬이다. 발사체 개발업체에서는 위성체 Craig-Bampton 모델과 발사체 모델을 결합하여 연성하중해석을 수행한 후 그 결과를 제공하였다. 제공받은 연성하중해석 결과를 바탕으로 발사시 위성체가 구조적으로 이상이 없는지를 평가하였다. 평가결과 위성체는 발사하중하에서 안전함을 확인할 수 있었다.

Earth pressure on a vertical shaft considering the arching effect in c-𝜙 soil

  • A new earth pressure equation considering the arching effect in $c-{\phi}$ soils was proposed for the accurate calculation of earth pressure on circular vertical shafts. The arching effect and the subsequent load recovery phenomenon occurring due to multi-step excavation were quantitatively investigated through laboratory tests. The new earth pressure equation was verified by comparing the test results with the earth pressures predicted by new equation in various soil conditions. Resulting from testing by using multi-step excavation, the arching effect and load recovery were clearly observed. The test results in $c-{\phi}$ soil showed that even a small amount of cohesion can cause the earth pressure to decrease significantly. Therefore, predicting earth pressure without considering such cohesion can lead to overestimation of earth pressure. The test results in various ground conditions demonstrated that the newly proposed equation, which enables consideration of cohesion as appropriate, is the most reliable equation for predicting earth pressure in both ${\phi}$ soil and $c-{\phi}$ soil. The comparison of the theoretical equations with the field data measured on a real construction site also highlighted the best-fitness of the theoretical equation in predicting earth pressure.

편토압 및 측압이 터널거동에 미치는 영향 (Influence of eccentric load and lateral earth pressure on the tunnel behavior)

  • 본 연구에서는 축소모형실험을 통하여 편토압 및 측압이 터널 거동에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 모형실험 결과의 타당성은 수치해석을 통하여 검토하였다. 터널에 작용하는 편토압을 감소시킬 수 있는 방안으로 편향 배치된 지보구조를 제안하고 이 방안의 적용성을 검토하였다. 실험 결과, 편향 배치된 지보구조를 적용함으로서 발생되는 변위가 전체적으로 줄어들었고, 초기 균열이 발생되는 하중도 증가되었다. 또한 터널의 안정성에 크게 문제가 되는 최대 편압 수직하중 역시 증가함을 알 수 있었다. 터널에 작용하는 측압의 영향을 검토한 결과, 측압계수의 변화에 따라 변위 발생 양상 및 균열 발생 양상이 매우 변화함을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 안정성 측면에서 취약점을 나타내는 부분도 변화함을 알 수 있었다.

  • An apparent earth pressure envelope for anchored walls proposed by FHWA was compared with Terzaghi & Peck's earth pressure envelope. The anchor design load, the maximum bending moment and the penetration depth were calculated by a simple beam analogy method for each type of envelope.

연약지반의 측방유동으로 인하여 매설관에 작용하는 측방토압 (Lateral Earth Pressures on Buried Pipes due to Lateral Flow of Soft Grounds)

  • 모형실험과 유한요소법에 의한 수치해석을 통하여 측방변형지반 속에 설치된 매설관에 작용하는 측방토압을 관찰하였다. 모형실험에서는 모형지반 속에 매설관을 설치한 후 모형지반에 측방변형이 발생될 수 있게 모형실험기를 제작하여 실제 지반에서의 상황을 시뮬레이션하였다. 이 모형실험기는 지반의 변형속도를 여러 가지로 조절할 수 있게 제작하였다. 여러 가지 직경과 형상의 매설관에 대하여 실험을 실시함으로써 이들 요인이 측방토압에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 모형실험결과 연약지반의 측방유동으로 인하여 매설관에 작용하는 측방하중은 연약지반의 측방변형속도가 빠를수록 크게 작용하였다. 순간재하 조건에 의한 수치해석 결과는 지반변형속도가 중간 정도 빠르기인 0.3mm/min에서 1.0mm/min 사이의 지반변형속도의 조건에서 실시한 모형실험 결과와 유사하였다. 대부분의 모형실험결과 지반변형량이 작은 시점에서 측방하중의 제1항복이 발생하며 이때까지 탄성변형거동을 보이다가 제2항복에 이르기까지 하중이 한 동안 수렴되는 소성거동을 보였다. 지반변형이 계속하여 증가하면 측방하중도 다시 증가하여 압축거동을 보였다. 그러나 빠른 지반변형속도에서의 실험 결과에서는 항복하중에 도달한 후 수렴과정이 없이 계속하여 하중이 증가하였음을 볼 수 있다. 매설관의 직경이 클수록 측방유동 연약지반 속에 설치된 매설관에 작용하는 측방하중의 크기와 하중증가 속도가 컸으며 초기지반변형에서는 측방하중이 매설관의 직경 및 형상의 영향을 적게 받지만 지반변형량이 증가함에 따라 그 영향이 크게 나타났다.

보강토 옹벽의 철도 구조물 적용에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the application of reinforced retaining walls to the railroad)

  • This research reviews the characteristics of earth pressure incurred by GRS-RW mainly used in the railroad design in order to resist large lateral load caused by train and additional load induced by facilities such as noise barrier fences, electric poles, etc. The results of test shows the existence of arching effect that horizontal earth pressure increases in the backfill while earth pressure applying to the wall reduced under GRS-RW system. In both cases, unreinforced wall and GRS-RW system, the coefficient of earth pressure (K) is about 0.4 at the rest. However, after lateral displacement occurs, the earth pressure nearly reduce down to zero under GRS-RW system while the earth pressure decreases up to 0.12 in case of unreinforced retaining wall.

  • This paper presents the developing a new algorithm for detecting the Back fed Earth Fault in three wire-unigrounded distribution system by zero sequence admittance. So called "Backfed Earth Fault" of the electric power distribution line refers to a class of earth faults that the load-side line only is grounded, following after the distribution line broken into two parts, the source-side and the load-side. Because its mechanism differs from that of other earth faults, it is therefore, required to examine. This paper deals with the detailed software of the digital protective relay for Backfed earth fault. In order to prove that the proposed schemes is good, we performed off-line simulation using data from EMTP and ETSA(Electrcity Trust Of South Austrilia). It is shown that the suggested algorithm is never mal operated.
