Observational implication for a possible presence of a magnetic monopole-like field in the visible layers of sunspots is examined by constructing a magnetostatic model of sunspots with a monopole-like field configuration. The resulting monopole approximation for a magnetic structure of spots is found to be compatible with the observations within a certain limited range of optical depth, which happens to lie mostly in its visible range.
The roll- and pitch-induced eddy currents create a magnetic field that contributes to the total magnetic signature of naval vessels. The magnetic signature is of concern, as it exposes the ship to the threat of modern influence mines. It is estimated that the eddy current is the second most important source contributing to a ship's underwater magnetic field following the ferromagnetic effect. In the present paper, the finite element (FE) method is used to predict the eddy current signature of a real ship. The FE model is validated using the measurements of the Canadian research vessel CFAV QUEST at the Earth's Field Simulator (EFS) in Schirnau, Germany. Modeling and validation of the eddy current magnetic signature for a real ship represents a novelty in the field. It is shown that the characteristics of this signature depend on frequency. Based on these results, a ship's degaussing system could be improved to cancel both the ferromagnetic and the eddy current contribution to the magnetic signature simultaneously, reducing the susceptibility to sea mines.
Magnetic actuation utilizes the mechanic torque that is the result of interaction of the current in a coil with an external magnetic field. A main obstacle is, however, that torques can only be produced perpendicular to the magnetic field. In addition, there is uncertainty in the Earth magnetic field models due to the complicated dynamic nature of the field. Also, the magnetic hardware and the spacecraft can interact, causing both to behave in undesirable ways. This actuation principle has been a topic of research since earliest satellites were launched. Earlier magnetic control has been applied for nutation damping for gravity gradient stabilized satellites, and for velocity decrease for satellites without appendages. The three axes of a micro-satellite can be stabilized by using an electromagnetic actuator which is rigidly mounted on the structure of the satellite. The actuator consists of three mutually-orthogonal air-cored coils on the skin of the satellite. The coils are excited so that the orbital frame magnetic field and body frame magnetic field coincides i.e. to make the Euler angles to zero. This can be done using a Neural Network controller trained by PD controller data and driven by the difference between the orbital and body frame magnetic fields.
A magnetic field sensing system with a single primary sensor and multiple reference sensors deployed locally and orthogonally, was proposed for downlink signal reception and interference cancelling for Through-the-Earth Communication (TEC). This paper mathematically analyzes a design optimization process for a search coil magnetometer (SCM), and applies that process to minimize the bandwidth of the primary SCM for TEC signal reception and the volume of reference SCMs for multiple distributions. The primary SCM achieves a 3-dB bandwidth of 7 Hz, a sensitivity threshold of 120 fT/${\surd}$Hz, and a volume of $2.32{\times}10^{-4}m^3$. The entire sensing system volume is as small as $10^{-2}m^3$. Experiments with interference from industrial frequency harmonics demonstrated an average of 36 dB and 18 dB improvements in signal-to-interference ratio and signal-to-interference plus noise ratio, respectively, using multichannel recursive-least-squares algorithm. Thus, the proposed sensing system can reduce the interference effectively and allows reliable downlink signal reception.

In this paper, we use the earth's magnetic field is measured by the MR device. By analyzing the measured data to determine the direction to implement the system. The construction of the system to determine the direction of neural networks, using input data based on an analysis of the relationship between pattern formation and characteristics of study and related information through a pattern when it is remembered that the output feedback input to associative networks and proves its feasibility for implementation. The entire detection system with regional changes in the Earth's magnetic field to adapt to the environment should aim to build a system.
Equatorial noise, also known magnetosonic waves (MSWs), are one of the frequently observed plasma waves in Earth's inner magnetosphere. Observations have shown that wave amplitudes maximize at the magnetic equator with a narrow extent in their latitudinal distribution. It has been understood that waves are generated from an equatorial source region and confined within a few degrees magnetic latitude. The present study investigates whether the MSW instability and saturation amplitudes maximize at the equator, given an energetic proton ring-like distribution derived from an observed wave event, and using linear instability analysis and particle-in-cell simulations with the plasma conditions at different latitudes along the dipole magnetic field line. The results show that waves initially grow fastest (i.e., with the largest growth rate) at high latitude (20°-25°), but consistent with observations, their saturation amplitudes maximize within ±10° latitude. On the other hand, the slope of the saturation amplitudes versus latitude revealed in the present study is not as steep as what the previous statistical observation results suggest. This may be indicative of some other factors not considered in the present analyses at play, such as background magnetic field and plasma inhomogeneities and the propagation effect.

All the plants on earth live under an electric and magnetic field because the earth is a magnet and there is an electric field between the charged cloud and the ground. It has been reported that electromagnetic fields influence both the activation of ions and polarization of dipoles in living cells of seeds and plants, though the mechanism of these actions is still poorly understood. In this paper, the effects of the electric and magnetic fields and exposure times to the germination of several vegetable seeds and its early growth have been investigated experimentally to find out the feasibility of a plant factory for mass production of clean and unpolluted vegetables. The germination rate and the growth rate of some seeds under the fields exposed were analysed and compared with those of unexposed ones. It is found that the germination rate and its early growth rate of exposed seeds under the fields were accelerated about 1.1-1.4 and 1.7-2.2 times in maximum compared with those of unexposed ones. But, however, an inhibitory effect on germination and plant early growth were shown in the case of the higher electric and magnetic fields.
Through the coupling between the near-earth space environment and the polar ionosphere via geomagnetic field lines, the variations occurred in the magnetosphere are transferred to the polar region. According to recent studies, however, the polar ionosphere reacts not only passively to such variations, but also plays active roles in modifying the near-earth space environment. So the study of the polar ionosphere in terms of geomagnetic disturbance becomes one of the major elements in space weather research. Although it is an indirect method, ground magnetic disturbance data can be used in estimating the ionospheric current distribution. By employing a realistic ionospheric conductivity model, it is further possible to obtain the distributions of electric potential, field-aligned current, Joule heating rate and energy injection rate associated with precipitating auroral particles and their energy spectra in a global scale with a high time resolution. Considering that the ground magnetic disturbances are recorded simultaneously over the entire polar region wherever magnetic station is located, we are able to separate temporal disturbances from spatial ones. On the other hand, satellite measurements are indispensible in the space weather research, since they provide us with in situ measurements. Unfortunately it is not easy to separate temporal variations from spatial ones specifically measured by a single satellite. To demonstrate the usefulness of ground magnetic disturbance data in space weather research, various ionospheric quantities are calculated through the KRM method, one of the magneto gram inversion methods. In particular, we attempt to show how these quantities depend on the ionospheric conductivity model employed.
In this study the attitude control of the KOREASAT is investigated. The KOREASAT is a geostationary satellite and its 3 attitude angles, namely, roll, pitch and yaw angles, are stabilized by using the 3-axis stabilization technique. In the pitch control loop, the pitch attitude angle received from the earth sensor is processed in the attitude processing electronics by using PI type control logic, and the control command is sent to the momentum wheel assembly to generate the control torque by varying the wheel rate. The roll/yaw attitude control is performed by activating a magnetic torquer or by firing appropriate thrusters. The magnetic torquer interacts with the earth magnetic field to produce the control torque, and the thrusters are used to control the larger roll attitude errors. In this study dynamic modelling of the satellite is performed. And the earth sensor, the momentum wheel, and the magnetic torquer are mathematically modelled. The 3-axis attitude control logic is implemented to make the closed-loop system and simulations are carried out to verify the implemented control laws.

The need for position information in agriculture is gradually increasing for precise control farm vehicle and effective manage farm land. Though geomagnetic sensor has a lot of merits in estimating heading angle of vehicle because of low costs and sensing ability of magnetic north, it is easy that sensor outputs are distorted in electro magnetic field environment. This study was conducted to develop geomagnetic compass which could be available in measuring relative position from reference point correcting output distorted by external electro magnetic field in a small scale field. Magnetic inducing sensor (PNI's Vector2X) which wound enamel coated copper coil on ferrite core in order to measure and correct earth magnetic field. Magnetic azimuth was corrected using the algorithm which estimated amount of magnetic distortion from the difference between each outputs of magnetic sensors that located on the cross shaped base. Developed auto-tuning magnetic sensor was showed less then 5% as bearing accuracy in the strong magnetic field.
