  • In this study, we developed a smart 1RM system for national health management and physical fitness, which enables quantitative 1RM measurement in various types of exercise using digital pulley technology, and to test the effect on training by using it. We developed the smart 1RM system, which is composed of portable muscle strength measuring device, Bluetooth communication based mobile phone data transmission and circuit diagram, and height adjustable system body. We recruited the 30 participants with 20th aged and divided into training and non-performing groups with 15 participants randomly. The participants performed 5 sets of elbow, lumbar, knee extension / flexion 10 times using smart 1RM system and the experimental period was 3 days a week for a total of 8 weeks. The experimental results showed that the maximum strength of the elbow, lumbar, and knee joints was significantly improved before and after maximal muscle strength training in the training group. Oxygen intakes during 1RM exercise mode showed 10.91% than endurance. To verify the validity of the smart 1RM maximal strength data, the reliability was 0.895 (* p <0.00). This study can be applied to the early rehabilitation treatment of the elderly and rehabilitation patients more quantitatively using the national health care.

  • This paper is to show the history and the brief present situation, the further vision and the considerations of Vojta physical therapy. Since Vojta therapy has been introduced into Korea in 1980, the workshop had the total 7 times and has produced 76 Vojta physical therapist during the past 15 year. But Vojta thrapist members have a gradually declining tendency in the present state. The counterplans for the considerations as follows; 1) Physician and Vojta therapist must be concerned about the growth of Vojta diagnosis and therapy. 2) As the medical examination and treatment system's establishment, an early infant's tretment will be performed. 3) The course of workshop in Korea must be admitted to be a regular qualification by the Vojta center of Germany. 4) Cerebral palsy treatment need home care system by Vojta therapist. 5) Vojta therapist has to reside in a public health center.

  • The Center for Imaging Human Structures (CIH) was established in December 2002 to develop new diagnostic imaging techniques and to make them available to the greater community of biomedical and clinical researchers at Sungkyunkwan University. CIH has been involved in 5 specific activities to provide solutions for early diagnosis and improved treatment of human diseases. The five area goals include: 1) development of a digital mammography system with computer aided diagnosis (CAD); 2) development of digital radiological imaging techniques; 3) development of unified medical solutions using 3D image fusion; 4) development of multi-purpose digital endoscopy; and, 5) evaluation of new imaging systems for clinical application

  • Legal regimes of major countries actively involved in wetland programs including USA, Japan, Germany, Netherlands, and Denmark, show that these leading nations have developed their own legal regimes and policies for the conservation and restoration of wetlands since early 1990s. The main feature of their position is to preserve, create and restore wetlands, including tidal flats. However, this approach, so called 'mitigation' policy, is thus far, not a fully established policy but an evolving one. For Korea, there are only a few laws and policies which hint at the importance of creating coastal wetlands as a conservation measure, however, most of those systems only exist as vague provisions which lack any tangible and compulsory implementing procedures and technical guidelines. It seems that it is necessary to strengthen the legal measures for conserving coastal wetlands in Korea including specifying economic assessment methods and funding sources for the creation, restoration and rehabilitation of tidal flats to firmly establish a national wetland mitigation policy.

  • The upper trunk of the brachial plexus is the most common area affected by neuralgic amyotrophy (NA), and paresis of the shoulder girdle muscle is the most prevalent manifestation. Posterior interosseous nerve palsy is a rare presentation in patients with NA. It results in dropped finger on the affected side and may be misdiagnosed as entrapment syndrome or compressive neuropathy. We report an unusual case of NA manifested as PIN palsy and suggest that knowledge of clinical NA phenotypes is crucial for early diagnosis of peripheral nerve palsies.

  • There are many controversies in managing fresh substance tear of PCL. Conservative treatment of partial tear is generalby accepted idea, and less than 10mm posterior instability is known to be acceptable in terms of funtion. More than 10mm posterior instability and complete fresh tear of the ligament are regarded as candidates of reconstruction of the ligament. However, many authors believe that posterior instability may be a cause of early osteoarthritis in the long run. Author described the rationale and the technique of arthroscopic primary repair of the PCL in case of proximal and mid 1/3 substance tear. Postoperative rehabilitation program and their rationale were also described.

  • Although the number of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is increasing, complications after primary ACL reconstruction are more difficult to determine. Intraoperative and postoperative complications can lead to ultimate failure of a primary reconstructive procedure. Therefore, surgical success in ACL reconstruction requires detailed knowledge and technical advancements about ACL reconstruction. Preoperatively surgeon must pay attention to selection of grafts and methods of fixation, and intraoperatively, attention to the harvest of graft, passage of graft, intraarticuar placement of the graft, notchplasty, proper tensioning of the graft, and others. Postoperative complications must be detected early, including infection, abnormal healing responses, arthrofibrosis, graft rejection, and reflex sympathetic dystrophy. Careful patient selection, appropriate surgical timing, careful surgical technique, and supervised preoperative and postoperative rehabilitation can minimize postoperative complications.

  • Lateral femoral cutaneous neuropathy occurring during spinal surgery is frequently related to iliac bone graft harvesting, but meralgia paresthetica (MP) can result from the patient being in the prone position. Prone position-related MP is not an uncommon complication after posterior spine surgery but there are only few reports in the literature on this subject. It is usually overlooked because of its mild symptoms and self-limiting course, or patients and physicians may misunderstand the persistence of lower extremity symptoms in the early postoperative period to be a reflection of poor surgical outcome. The authors report a case of prone position-related MP after posterior lumbar interbody fusion at the L3-4 and reviewed the literature with discussion on the incidence, pathogenesis, and possible risk factors related to this entity.

  • In accordance with the Cambodian government's poverty reduction policy, the Krang Ponley Water Resources Development Project was selected and has been carried out as a priority to develop the northwest areas of Phnom Penh since early 2003. Rehabilitation and new construction of water supply system such as embankments, canals and hydraulic structures are urgently needed for stable water supply, hydropower generation and flood damage reduction within the project area. The completion of the project is expected to be extremely helpful in the economic development of Cambodia as well as to improving the economic conditions of the residents in the project area.

  • The purpose of this study is suggesting a basic data for which scientific preservation and rehabilitation of future modern architecture through the analyzing property of clay brick used in modern architecture in a scientific way.The clay brick which is used in the early 1900s has even lower property than present clay brick because of poor plasticity technique at that time. It could be possible to property and effective stability examination of modern architecture from nondestructive testing is significantly associated with property.
