  • In this paper, a performance enhancement study of an AESA antenna that can be applied to a seeker that serves as the eye of a missile was conducted, and the performance of the antenna was verified through actual measurement. When designing an AESA antenna, the optimization of the active reflection coefficient must be considered during transmission due to the mutual coupling between radiators that inevitably occurs, and the selection of a radiator that can overcome the space limitation of the seeker with a small size/light weight is an important design consideration. Accordingly, optimization in terms of electrical performance and low-profile structure is required through research on array antennas for application to the AESA structure. The radiator designed and measured in this paper was designed as an SFN that can satisfy the low-profile structure while enhancing the performance of a general vivaldi antenna. Through this paper, it was confirmed that SFN has the same broadband characteristics as general vivaldi antennas and has optimized characteristics required for AESA antennas. The structure optimized through simulation confirmed the pattern characteristics and active reflection coefficient characteristics through the fabrication of actual proto-type antennas.

  • In forensic genetics, when it is not possible to confirm an individual's identity through STR profile analysis, additional information about the individual can be obtained using DNA-based phenotypic traits estimation. Recently, various researches have been conducted on methods to determine externally visible characteristics (EVC) such as eyes, hair, and skin color. However, relying solely on such phenotypic traits information has limitations for application in East Asian regions, including Korea. In this study, in order to utilize EVC related to an individual's appearance as investigative information, SNPs related to eye shape, hair thickness, skin color, as well as baldness, body type, high myopia, facial shape, acne, and behavioral habits were explored. A total of 50 SNPs were selected, and a targeted amplicon NGS panel capable of amplifying them all at once was developed. Experimental results confirmed the allelic types and frequencies of the 50 SNPs in 14 samples. We plan to use this panel to investigate the correlation between genotype and phenotype using various samples, and to develop methods for interpreting the results.

  • This study was carried out to develop new cultivars of Hibiscus species from crosses between introduced interspecific hybrids and cultivars in Hibiscus species. Fruit setting of interspecific crosses of Hibiscus strains was less than 10% and the number of seeds in the fruit was also in low level. Three individuals of specific flower and leaf characteristics were selected from crosses between introduced interspecific hybrid, 'Fujimusme'(♀), and H. syriacus 'Namwon'(♂) in 2004. A new strain, Hibiscus ${\times}$ 'W-26', was selected from the crossing of interspecific hybrid, 'Fujimusme'(♀), and H. syriacus 'Namwon'(♂), which had white flower and narrow separated petal. Hibiscus ${\times}$ 'WRB-2' was selected from the crossing of interspecific hybrid, 'Fujimusme'(♀), and H. syriacus 'Namwon'(♂), which had white flower and blue eye spot. Hibiscus ${\times}$ 'R-141' was selected from crosses between introduced interspecific hybrid, 'Shichisai'(♀) and H. syriacus 'Namwon'(♂), which had large flowers over 13 cm diameter and revealed tall tree type. Hibiscus ${\times}$ 'R-142' was selected from the crossing of interspecific hybrid, 'Shichisai'(♀), and H. syriacus 'Namwon'(♂), which had large flowers over 13 cm diameter and revealed tall tree type. The characteristics were succeded after grafting. Flower of 'R-142' had reddish violet color with red eye spot, whereas its parent had blue and purple flowers.

  • Our study investigated the association between solvent exposure and acquired color vision loss using the Lanthony D-15 desaturated panel in petrochemical industry. Since neurotoxic effects associated with chronic solvent exposure, subjects with more than 6 months of exposure were included. Exposure assesment was estimated mean, maximum and cumulative 8hr TWA from individual 8-hour sampling. Exposure status were classified into two groups, occupationally exposed group to solvent and a non-exposed group. The results showed that CCI was positively related for age. According to the results of qualitative analysis, there was no significant difference in the prevalence of specific Type of dyschromatopsia the two examined group. However, the prevalence showed a higher proportion of dyschromatopsia to solvent exposure. It was affect with acquired dyschromatopsia(Type II, III and Complex) in exposed worker group(5.9%,7.86%,14.99%, respectively) than in the nonexposed group(6.16%,7.55%,13.71%, respectively). After each variable was adjusted for age, alcohol and tobacco consumption, a relationship between acquired dyschromatopsia and exposure showed an increase in the Odds ratio as compared to the nonexposed group at only left. The results showed that acquired dyschromatopsia was positively related to age (p<0.001). The results showed that solvent exposure, although not significant, could cause the acquired dyschromatopsia and visual system can serve important information on early neurotoxic effects in generally. Therefore, we need to concerns about eye health in workers.

  • One of the desired features for the realizations of high quality Information and Telecommunication services in future is "the Sensation of Reality". This will be achieved only with the visual communication based on the 3- dimensional (3-D) moving images. The main difficulties in realizing 3-D moving image communication are that there is no developed data transmission technology for the hugh amount of data involved in 3-D images and no established technologies for 3-D image recording and displaying in real time. The currently known stereoscopic imaging technologies can only present depth, no moving parallax, so they are not effective in creating the sensation of the reality without taking eye glasses. The more effective 3-D imaging technologies for achieving the sensation of reality are those based on the multiview 3-D images which provides the object image changes as the eyes move to different directions. In this paper, a multiview 3-D imaging system composed of 8 CCD cameras in a case, a RGB(Red, Green, Blue) beam projector, and a holographic screen is introduced. In this system, the 8 view images are recorded by the 8 CCD cameras and the images are transmitted to the beam projector in sequence by a signal converter. This signal converter converts each camera signal into 3 different color signals, i.e., RGB signals, combines each color signal from the 8 cameras into a serial signal train by multiplexing and drives the corresponding color channel of the beam projector to 480Hz frame rate. The beam projector projects images to the holographic screen through a LCD shutter. The LCD shutter consists of 8 LCD strips. The image of each LCD strip, created by the holographic screen, forms as sub-viewing zone. Since the ON period and sequence of the LCD strips are synchronized with those of the camera image sampling adn the beam projector image projection, the multiview 3-D moving images are viewed at the viewing zone.

  • The present study investigated whether the emotional states reading ability through facial expression changes by age(3-, 5-year-old and university student groups), sex(male, female), facial expression's presenting areas(face, eyes) and the type of emotions(basic emotions, complex emotions). 32 types of emotional state's facial expressions which are linked relatively strong with the emotional vocabularies were used as stimuli. Stimuli were collected by taking photographs of professional actors facial expression performance. Each individuals were presented with stories which set off certain emotions, and then were asked to choose a facial expression that the principal character would have made for the occasion presented in stories. The result showed that the ability of facial expression reading improves as the age get higher. Also, they performed better with the condition of face than eyes, and basic emotions than complex emotions. While female doesn't show any performance difference with the presenting areas, male shows better performance in case of facial condition compared with eye condition. The results demonstrate that age, facial expression's presenting areas and the type of emotions effect on estimation of other people's emotion through facial expressions.

  • We evaluate the impact of near work has on myopia and how they differ across generation. The study subjects were 201(83 males and 118 females) adults who live in Cheongju and Daejeon. Myopia was defined as more than or equal to (-)2.50D. The subjects were divided myopic and control group. The surveys and eye tests that are related to near work and refractive error were conducted and the relationship between the degree of myopia and near work was investigated. Then, the groups were divided into people in their 20s and 30s and the comparisons were made again. The survey results showed significant differences between myopic and control groups that depended on: hours spent in school and outdoor activities during high school period, degree of refractive error caused by level of exercises during the junior high school and high school years, refractive error based on the type of high schools, also hours spent in school and outdoor activities. When the same question was done on the group in their 20s and 30s, there was a different outcome in trends between the groups and refractive error depending on whether they exercised. The degree of near work is one of the environmental risk factors that affect myopia and must be considered when studying myopic progression. However, when discussing specific behavioral patterns in relations to myopia prevention, culture and visual environment of a given generation must also be considered.
