How the port, shipping, shipbuilding, and vender industries in Korea can have a seamless value chain through their digitally smooth cooperation by applying the latest information and communications technology through the "4th industrial revolution" was examined. Also considered was the proposition that the value chain should be a smart, seamless value chain among industries with successful hyperconnection. Their cooperative relationships were defined, and the crucial elements for the sustainable development of these industries were considered. As a result, the direction for achieving environmental, social, and governance management by realizing decarbonization through today's digitalization could be studied. In particular, the importance of digitization as a way to respond to the future market from the perspective of small and medium-sized enterprises and the role of digitization realized by small and medium-sized equipment companies in the overall industry were examined. The results simultaneously show the state of linkage between industries and the reason why the value chain must maintain a smooth relationship. In addition, using the lessons learned from recent failure cases from the Korean shipbuilding industry as a cornerstone, the direction for creating a strategic pathway for intelligent connection was investigated.
Purpose: South Korea is one of the markets where diverse and innovative cuisines are being tried. Therefore, the expectations for Michelin star restaurants in South Korea are high. The expected value of a Michelin star restaurant consists of both hedonic and utilitarian aspects of the dining experience. These consumer expectations affect visit intention. Research design, data, and methodology: The survey period was from October 10, 2023 to October 18, 2023, and 302 copies were used for hypothesis verification. Result: Hedonic expected value was found to have a significant positive influence on short-term and long-term visit intention, but had no significant effect on mid-term visit intention. Utilitarian expected value was found to have a significant positive influence on short-term and mid-term visit intention, but did not appear to have a significant effect on long-term visit intentions. Short-term visit intention was found to have a significant positive influence on mid-term visit intention, and mid-term visit intention was found to have a significant positive influence on long-term visit intention. Conclusions: The theoretical implications are restaurants need to utilize third-party certification, such as the Michelin Guide. The practical implication is that Michelin star restaurants should provide expected value to increase short-term visit intention.
In this study, in order to derive the priority of indicators and sustainability areas of smart ports, which means ports in the digital era, previous studies and ESG, which have recently been indispensably introduced in all industries worldwide, were studied together. A hierarchical structure was established with upper evaluation items and 20 lower evaluation items in four areas (operational, environmental, social, and governance), and a relative evaluation method of weighting items among the AHP techniques was applied. The pairwise comparison questionnaire consisted of a 9-point scale proposed by Satty (1980). A survey was conducted targeting working-level workers who perform sustainability or ESG(Environmental, Social, Governance)-related work at four representative port authorities in Korea (Busan, Incheon, Ulsan, Yeosu Gwangyang). In order to increase the accuracy of the analysis results, AHP analysis was conducted on 17 questionnaires with a consistency ratio of 0.1 or less. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that among the four areas representing the sustainability of domestic smart ports, the operation area had the highest priority, followed by the environment area. In addition, looking at the overall priorities for the 20 detailed indicators, indicators such as operational efficiency, operational planning, energy management, and pollution measurement and management system were found to have high priority. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the social and the governance areas had relatively low importance compared to other areas.
Purpose - The primary objective of this paper is to empirically examine whether the engagement of socially responsible activities in corporations affect the tendency of tax-avoidance by using the sample of Korean companies. We are particularly interested in Chaebol-affiliated firms, which are a special type of Korean conglomerates. Design/methodology/approach - This study is based on a sample of 5,496 firm-year observation data from 2011 to 2017 by using the ESG ratings from the Korea Corporate Governance Service(KCGS), a ESG rating agency in Korea. For our analysis, the firms were separated into 1,547 Chaebol-affiliated firms and other 3,949 firms. All financial and firm data were extracted from Fn-guide, which provides financial information for Korean listed firms. Findings - We find that CSR is generally positively related to the effective tax rate, which indicates a lower level of tax avoidance for more socially responsible firms. In particular, a positive relationship of social score with GAAP ETR was observed. Research implications or Originality - We find that the positive relationship is robust to the group of chaebol and non-chaebol affiliates unlike extant literature.

A smart port refers to a port built based on digital technologies such as IoT, big data, AI, and block chain, and refers to a port that minimizes waste of time, space and resources as the only means of survival of the port. Sustainability refers to 'environmental, economic, and social characteristics that enable people to continue to use the environment, ecosystem, or publicly used resources'. It contains the meaning of 'future sustainability' that can be maintained in the future. In the face of the 4th industrial revolution, interest and realization of smart port construction and sustainability are actively progressing around the world. In this study, core indicators of the ESG (Enviornment, Social, Governance) area, which are key elements of sustainable smart ports, were developed,

This study empirically examines the impact of firms' environmental (E), social (S), and governancial (G) factors on their short-term and long-term values. To measure firms' non-financial performance, we use ESG performance grades published by KCGS (Korea Corporate Governance Service). We employ stock log return as the proxy of each firm's short-term value, and Tobin's Q ratio as that of its long-term value. From a series of regression analyses, we find each of the ESG factors generally has a negative impact on stock return while it has a positive impact on the Tobin's Q ratio. These results imply that firms' effort for enhancing their non-financial performance may adversely affect their financial performance in a short term; but in the long-term point of view, firms' values increase through their good images engraved by their respective social, environmental and governancial efforts. In addition, we compare the relative strength of impact among E, S, G, the three non-financial factors on the firms' value measured in Tobin's Q ratio, and find that S (social factor) and G (governancial factor) give statistically significant impact on the firms' value respectively. This result tells us it would be advised to strategically embed CSV (creating shared value) pursuing both of profits and social responsibility in the firms' future agenda. While E (environmental factor) is shown to be an insignificant factor for the firms' value, it should be emphasized as a major concern by all the stakeholders in order to form a sound business ecosystem.
Plastics are classified into 7 types such as PET (PETE), HDPE, PVC, LDPE, PP, PS, and Other for separation and recycling. Recently, large corporations advocating ESG management are replacing them with bioplastics. Incineration and landfill of disposal of plastic waste are responsible for air pollution and destruction of the ecosystem. Because it is not easy to accurately classify plastic materials with the naked eye, automated system-based screening studies using various sensor technologies and AI-based software technologies have been conducted. In this paper, NIR scanning devices considering the NIR wavelength characteristics that appear differently for each plastic material and a system that can identify the type of plastic by learning the NIR spectrum data collected through it. The accuracy of plastic material identification was evaluated through a decision tree-based SVM model for multiclass classification on NIR spectral datasets for 8 types of plastic samples including biodegradable plastic.
Purpose: In the post-COVID-19, many consumers still feel uncomfortable with crowding in closed spaces. This study investigates how non-crowding affects consumer satisfaction and restaurant visit intention. Research design, data, and methodology: The data were collected from 350 people aged 20 and above. A total of 347 respondents, excluding 3 unfaithful respondents, were analyzed using Smart PLS 4.0 program. Result: Both spatial and human crowding have significant effects on satisfaction. On the other hand, neither spatial nor human crowding directly affected dine-out intention significantly. In addition, spatial crowding was found to have a direct and significant effect on in-store dining intention, but human crowding did not have a direct and significant effect on in-store dining intention. It was found that satisfaction had a significant effect on both dine-out intention and in-store dining intension. Conclusions: This study has expanded the range of consumer behavioral intentions by applying a non-crowded environment (S) to the SOR theory. Also, Consumer behavioral intention was expanded by dividing visit intention into a dine-out and in-store dining intention. Therefore, we propose measures to minimize human crowding by introducing a system such as adjustment of store operating hours, reservation system, store opening time alarm system, and reduction of cooking time.
In this study, we investigate the current status of family friendly management and determinants of its level. We choose measures about family friendly management and use their results from ESG evaluation model by Korea Corporate Governance Service. We find that firms with larger size, lower leverage and higher firm value are more family friendly. And in contrast to previous studies, firms are more family friendly when they have less women to total employees. But firms with higher largest shareholder holdings are less family friendly. These results show that listed firms in Korea should be more family friendly considering their level of woman employment. Also the interest and support from top management are needed for activating family friendly management, but largest shareholder of korean firms are not active yet.
In order to analyze the effect of strengthening the disclosure of remuneration for high-paid workers among the measures to improve the governance structure of financial companies by the Financial Services Commission in 2018, this study demonstrated the compensation system, management performance, and improvement of governance for Korean financial companies from 2015 to 2020. Analysis was performed. As a result of the empirical analysis, it was found that financial companies after 2018 decreased the employee compensation disparity and the majority shareholding ratio, while the stock performance and foreign ownership ratio increased. This study has the greatest contribution in that it is the first domestic study to verify the effect of applying the so-called Say on Pay, which discloses management's remuneration and allows shareholders to check its appropriateness through voting.
