  • Recently, tourism industry is on the trend of expanding its activity arena, boosted by revitalization of regional economy and reorganization of urban environment, undertaken for the purpose of place marketing. However, Korea has not been able to develop a variety of tourism itineraries that can attract the interest of tourists because most tourism resources are isolated with single function. This constraint has prevented tourism industry in Korea from attaining competitiveness. In attempting to overcome this constraint, this study seeks to develop tourism itineraries by constructing and utilizing database on historical and cultural tourism resources based on the case of Kangneung City. Through the construction of information system on historical and cultural resources and tourism support facilities, optimal tourism itineraries that take into account maintenance conditions, types, values, lodging availabilities and accessibility of tourism resource areas can be developed. Moreover, it is expected that this information system will have a high level of usage in the future, for it can provide a wide range of tourism services on the internet and education materials as well as facilitate resources management.

These factors comprise operation entity, governance, shared vision, leadership, efficient role-playing, marketing efforts, and equity in profit distribution. Based on these seven factors, 85 of the evaluation items were developed. The management and operation scores of 85 items were measured and summed for each of the 21 rural tourism villages. First, 21 villages were divided into two groups by the sales figures to derive items to determine the difference in the mean value of the evaluation scores. Second, an independent sample t-test was conducted for each village at YangPyeong-gun. Third, the study divided the 21 villages into four groups using 46 evaluation items. Finally, the study's researchers clarified some challenges to solve and appropriate management and operation plans considering each type of rural tourism village.

In order to select the several study villages, the present study surveyed roughly the outline for resource characteristics about green-tourism of 83 rural tourist villages introduced on the internet. On the five rural villages, which are Moondang-ri, Yangsoo-ri, Molwoon-ri(Tomato-village), Yongsan-ri(Yongbayi-gol), and Kaya-ri(Ogam-village) located on Chungnam, Kyunggi, Kangwon, Chungbuk, and Kyunggi province, this study surveyed detailed data on the tourism income. The results show that the food sales business in the village makes about 50% of the total village income per year from the tourist, and followed by agricultural products sale, stay in farmhouses, and experience activity in the villages. The average total income of the five villages was estimated 93 million won per year and the average income per household was 1.5 million won in the study villages.
