  • Modeling of artificial targets in Synthetic Aperture radar (SAR) mainly simulates radar signals reflected from the faces and edges of the 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) model with a ray-tracing method, and modeling of the clutter on the Earth's surface uses a method of distinguishing types with similar distribution characteristics through statistical analysis of the SAR image itself. In this paper, man-made targets on the surface and background clutter on the terrain are integrated and made into a three-dimensional (3D) point cloud scatterer model, and SAR image were created through computational signal processing. The results of the SAR Stripmap image generation of the actual automobile based SAR radar system and the results analyzed using EM modeling or statistical distribution models are compared with this 3D point cloud scatterer model. The modeling target is selected as an bridge because it has the characteristic of having both water surface and ground terrain around the bridge and is also a target of great interest in both military and civilian use.

  • The government have been tightening EM regulation gradually but the effect is not good because of rapid increase of vehicles. And medium & heavy duty diesel vehicles, even though the number is small, exhaust very large pollutants(about over 50%). Especially it is more severe about old trucks and buses. Accordingly, CNG vehicle and the retrofit of diesel to CNG must be an alternative in order to protect the atmospheric environment and improve the air quality in the metropolitan area. The main object of this study is to secure the retrofit technology of diesel to CNG vehicle and the management system of CNG engine. we passed the government emission certification test. In addition to this, the mass production for retrofit is also studied. Results of emission and durability test for certification are as follows; there was no problem during 30,000km vehicle durability test and good emission levels satisfying the regulation.

  • Floating seaweed rafts are a surface-pelagic habitat that serve as substrates for benthic flora and fauna. Since 2008, Sargassum horneri clumps have periodically invaded the Korea Strait. In this study, the polymerase chain reaction-free small-organelles enriched metagenomics method was adopted to identify the species of epibiotic eukaryotes present in floating S. horneri fronds. A total of 185 species were identified, of which about 63% were previously undetected or unreported in Korean waters. The rafts harbored a diverse assemblage of eukaryotic species, including 39 Alveolata, 4 Archaeplastida, 95 Opisthokonts, 4 Rhizaria, and 43 Stramenopiles. Of these 185 taxa, 48 species were found at both Sargassum rafts collection stations and included 24 Stramenopiles, 17 Alveolata, and 7 Opisthokonts. Among these, the highest proportion (50%) of species was photo-autotrophic in basic trophic modes, while the proportion of phagotrophic, osmo- or saprotrophic, and parasitic modes were 43.8%, 4.2%, and 2.1%, respectively. This study demonstrates the contribution of floating Sargassum rafts as dispersal vectors that facilitate the spread of alien species.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability of electromyographic examination in a day and detect the objective measurement timing of electromyography. 18 normal students who were in dental collage of C national university were selected for this study. They had no symptoms on temporomandibular joint area, no restorations and missing tooth on dentition. Their molar relationship was normal or class I of Angle's classification. Electromyography had been taken every one hour from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. in the state of clenching and rest by using Bioelectric processor EM2 interfaced with mandibular kinesiograph K-6 diagnostic system. We compared and analyzed the variances of electromyography values of each subjects. The obtained results were as follows : There were no significant differences on variability of electromyography values in each state clenching and rest. In the aspect of this circumstances, the use of electromyography could be a good objective procedure to diagnose the temporomandibular disorders and to detect the effect to the treatment of temporomandibular disorders at any time in a day from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

  • Reflection(R($\omega$)), transmission(T($\omega$)) and loss(L($\omega$)) characteristics of multi-layer metamaterials are investigated experimentally in free space with the incident EM waves perpendicular to the substrate plane. The sample is made of split-ring resonators(SRRs) and wires which are the typical model of metamaterials. The R($\omega$) and T($\omega$) of multi-layer metamaterials have been calculated from the measured S-parameters. In this paper, we got the impedance-matched result according to the curves of R($\omega$), meanwhile the T($\omega$) decreased with increasing number of layers. At last, we attained the result that the L($\omega$) gets to nearly 98% around 8 GHz, with R($\omega$)=T($\omega$)=0. The design presented in this paper achieves experimented loss near unity.

  • We examined effects of water temperature, salinity, irradiance, and different media on the growth of the toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium tamarense (HYM9704), which was isolated from Jinhae Bay, Korea. The ranges of temperature and salinity in which the strain was able to grow were $10{\sim}20^{\circ}C$ and $20{\sim}34$ psu, respectively. These values were in accordance with those observed in situ. The maximum growth rates of axenic A. tamarense (HYM9704) was $0.25d^{-1}$ at $15^{\circ}C$, 30 psu, and $100{\mu}Em^{-2}s^{-1}$. The temperature affected the growth rates of axenic A. tamarense more significantly than the salinity. The type of culture media did not affect the growth rates of axenic A. tamarense. The strain in N-limited and P-limited media went into the stationary phase faster than that in T1 and T1/2 medium.

  • Acoustic Target Strength (TS) is a major parameter of the active sonar equation, which indicates the ratio of the radiated intensity from the source to the re-radiated intensity by a target. This research provides the time pattern of TS in time domain, which is applicable to pulse modulated acoustic pressure field. If the time pattern of TS is predicted by using TS equation in frequency domain, it takes long time and difficult since time function pulsed acoustic wave may be decomposed into their frequency domain components. But TS equation in time domain has a convenience. If the expression for pulsed acoustic field has been obtained, the problem can be solved. Furthermore this paper introduces about mathematical equivalence quantities between EM wave and Acoustic Wave.

  • In order to examine that what kind of system correlated with cadmium detoxification mechanism in Klebsiella aerogenes ATCC 10031, we tried to investigate the effect of phosphate upon the detoxification and also elucidate whether the cadmium phosphate and/or polymeric Cd-Pi complex is formed actually in cell or not. As the results, it was shown that growing pattern had long lag adaptive phase of 12 hr to 24 hr, at the concentrations of 0.02 mM and 0.08 mM cadmium, respectively. Cadmium was accumulated more highly in the fraction of cell wall and membrane than in those of cytoplasm. In case of phosphate starving cells added cadmium, inorganic polyphosphate system was primarily correlated with Cd-detoxification during the lag phase for the accommodation to cadmium, on the other hand, Cd:Sulfide complex system secondarily correlated it during the stationary phase. These results implied that polyphosphate system and Cd:sulfide complex system, these two systems were operated compensatively each other. Considering the results obsdrved with EM and examined tha changes of sulfide and polyphosphate amount, it was reflected that Cd:S complex was located at the cell surface. In the results of $in-vivo^{31}$P NMR spectra in the cells with cadmium pressure, several phosphate signals arose newly from the polyphosphate region with moving chemical shift of it. This phinomenon strongly implied the actual existence of Dd:Pi comples and /or Cd:poly-P complex in the cell and also the cellular compartmentalization of cadmium detoxifying mechanism.

  • A new method to decompose the footprints of marine atmosphere boundary layer (MABL) on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery into characteristic spatial scales is proposed. Using two-dimensional Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) we obtain three Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs), which mainly present longitudinal rolls, three-dimensional cells and atmospheric gravity waves (AGW). The rolls and cells have spatial scales between 3.0 km and 3.8 km and between 5.3 km and 7.1 km, respectively. Based on previous observations and mixed-layer similarity theory, we estimated MABL's depths that vary from 0.95 km to 1.2 km over the rolls and from 3.0 km to 3.8 km over the cells. The AGW has maximum spectrum at 14.3 km wavelength. The method developed in this work can be used to decompose other satellite imageries into individual features through characteristic spatial scales.

  • Epstein-Barr virus(EBV) is associated with a wide spectrum of benign and malignant disorders including leukoplakia, Hodgkln's lymphoma, central nervous system lymphoma, peripheral T cell lymphoma and nasopharyngeal undifferentiated carcinoma. There are several distinctive aspects of biology of the virus that are important in investigation of virus in clinical specimens. The abundant expression of the EBER mRNA transcripts makes possible the sensitive detection of latent expression in EBV-associated tumors. Although there has been a dramatic increased interest in the direct characterization of EBV in clinical specimens, there have been few studios about the effective and reliable positive controls in performing in situ hybridization technique for EBV, especially on paraffin-em bedded tissue. We applied Burkitts lymphoma ceil line as positive control in EBV in situ hydridization using Oncor Kit. The cell block of Burkitt lymphoma cell line(CCL85 EB-3) showed strong and specific positivity for EBER in situ in nuclei of EBV infected cells.
