A study on fairness packet scheduling scheme in IEEE 802.11e WLAN system (Fairness보장을 위한 IEEE 802.l1e무선 LAN패킷 스케줄링 기법 연구)

  • Since subscribers, who pay the same communication fees, have a strong desire to take similar services with the other users, it is an important issue to provide fairness among those subscribers wherever they are located. Therefore, in this paper we propose a QoS packet scheduler that can provide fairness among wireless LAN terminals and evaluate its performance using computer simulation. The key idea of this scheduler is to reduce the CW value of the wireless LAN terminal that has failed in sending its packets due to channel transmission error in order to offer the wireless MM terminal a higher transmission priority which is the idea of service compensation. We evaluate its performance using NS-2 network simulator, compare its numerical results to those of IEEE 802.11e without this scheme, and conclude that this scheme can reduce throughput difference between similar wireless LAN terminals.

  • As the Internet Protocol be widely/rapidly used in packet communication, common carriers are providing the multimedia service(Both direction real-time voice, video conference, remote educational etc.)on the Internet. Also the 070 VoIP (Voice over IP) service is provided by the carriers on the packer network. In order to offer VoIP service in Korea, common carrier has to acquire the optimum level for QoS(quality of service). In this paper, we study on CODEC quality to get a higher QoS for VoIP.

  • The IEEE 802.11 based wireless local area networks are candidates to lead the broadband connectivity in the home and office scenarios. Recently IEEE proposed the 802.11e as a new standard to provide appropriate Quality of Services to a plethora of emerging real-time multimedia and high demanding applications such as high definition movie and audio distribution, video-conference and voice over IP. This paper studies the IEEE 802.11e/IEEE 802.11b interactions focusing on potential unfairness problems that might appear in networks with heterogeneous wireless LAN technologies as well as in the IEEE 802.11e deployment phase.

  • Recently, Massive energy consumption in Cloud Storage System has attracted great attention both in industry and research community. However, most of the solutions utilize single method to reduce the energy consumption only in one aspect. This paper proposed an energy effective gear-shifting mechanism (E2GSM) in Cloud Storage System to save energy consumption from multi-aspects. E2GSM is established on data classification mechanism and data replication management strategy. Data is classified according to its properties and then be placed into the corresponding zones through the data classification mechanism. Data replication management strategies determine the minimum replica number through a mathematical model and make decision on replica placement. Based on the above data classification mechanism and replica management strategies, the energy effective gear-shifting mechanism (E2GSM) can automatically gear-shifting among the nodes. Mathematical analytical model certificates our proposed E2GSM is energy effective. Simulation experiments based on Gridsim show that the proposed gear-shifting mechanism is cost effective. Compared to the other energy-saved mechanism, our E2GSM can save energy consumption substantially at the slight expense of performance loss while meeting the QoS of user.

  • This paper addresses the implementation of FTTH system based on Ethernet PON technololy. This system consists of OLT and ONT. OLT supports the maximum 24 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and then has the flexibility and the scalability for supplying digital communication and broadcasting convergence service in the near future. OLT system consists of switch module, subscriber module, processor module, and E-PON link module, and has the operating system based on Linux. ONT is installed in customer premise to supply both IP-TV and Internet service. Also ONT has the dedicated interface for IP-TV to improve the transmission characteristics of IP-TV signal. We measure the performance of E-PON MAC through this system and then QoS control characteristics per franc in ONT by separating the virtual link for IP-TV from that for data.

  • Wireless networks play a very important role in communications today. For example, wireless networks today provide from the basic services like e-mail and FTP to the multimedia applications like Web service. It is obvious that QoS requirements to these diverse applications over wireless networks will continue as in wired networks. Much research has been done to develop QoS supporting algorithms on Internet. But due to the limited bandwidth and varying channel states of the wireless networks, it is difficult to support differentiated service over wireless networks. In this paper we propose the modified wireless token ring protocol supporting QoS to the real-time traffic service node over Internet environments in which non-real-time and real-time traffic service nodes coexist. In the proposed algorithm, the real-time traffic service node gets the priority to take token over the non-real-time traffic service node. So the proposed algorithm support quick transmission of the real-time traffic service node. And this advantage can be obtained with minor modification of the legacy wireless token ing protocol to support QoS. We also consider the lost token recovery mechanism.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the DRMA(Dynamic Reservation Multiple Access) protocol with Rayleigh fading, shadowing, and capture effect for the Broadband fireless Access System. We consider the TDMA-based protocols, since these are based on the standard for IEEE 802.16 WMAN, IEEE 802.20 MBWA, and ETSI HIPERLAN//2. The results of analytical model will be apply the development of collision resolution algorithm, scheduling algorithm and the dynamic change of system parameters.

Performance Analysis of Coordinated Cognitive Radio Networks under Fixed-Rate Traffic with Hard Delay Constraints

  • Due to the unpredictable nature of channel availability, carrying delay-sensitive traffic in cognitive radio networks (CRNs) is very challenging. Spectrum leasing of radio resources has been proposed in the so called coordinated CRNs to improve the quality of service (QoS) experienced by secondary users (SUs). In this paper, the performance of coordinated CRNs under fixed-rate with hard-delay-constraints traffic is analyzed. For the adequate and fair performance comparison, call admission control strategies with fractional channel reservation to prioritize ongoing secondary calls over new ones are considered. Maximum Erlang capacity is obtained by optimizing the number of reserved channels. Numerical results reveal that system performance strongly depends on the value of the mean secondary service time relative to the mean primary service time. Additionally, numerical results show that, in CRNs without spectrum leasing, there exists a critical utilization factor of the primary resources from which it is not longer possible to guarantee the required QoS of SUs and, therefore, services with hard delay constraints cannot be even supported in CRNs. Thus, spectrum leasing can be essential for CRN operators to provide the QoS demanded by fixed-rate applications with hard delay constraints. Finally, the cost per capacity Erlang as function of both the utilization factor of the primary resources and the maximum allowed number of simultaneously rented channels is evaluated.

A Comprehensive Analysis of the End-to-End Delay for Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks

  • Wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs) require real-time quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees to be provided by the network. The end-to-end delay is very critical metric for QoS guarantees in WMSNs. In WMSNs, due to the transmission errors incurred over wireless channels, it is difficult to obtain reliable delivery of data in conjunction with low end-to-end delay. In order to improve the end-to-end delay performance, the system has to drop few packets during network congestion. In this article, our proposal is based on optimization of end-to end delay for WMSNs. We optimize end-to-end delay constraint by assuming that each packet is allowed fixed number of retransmissions. To optimize the end-to-end delay, first, we compute the performance measures of the system, such as end-to-end delay and reliability for different network topologies (e.g., linear topology, tree topology) and against different choices of system parameters (e.g., data rate, number of nodes, number of retransmissions). Second, we study the impact of the end-to-end delay and packet delivery ratio on indoor and outdoor environments in WMSNs. All scenarios are simulated with multiple run-times by using network simulator-2 (NS-2) and results are evaluated and discussed.
