Nonlinear time-domain system identification (SI) algorithm is proposed to assess damage in a shear building by synchronously estimating time-varying stiffness and damping parameters using measured acceleration data. Mass properties have been assumed as the a priori known information. Viscous damping was utilized for the current research. To chase possible nonlinear dynamic behavior under severe vibration, an incremental governing equation of vibrational motion has been utilized. Stiffness and damping parameters are estimated at each time step by minimizing the response error between measured and computed acceleration increments at the measured degrees-of-freedom. To solve a nonlinear constrained optimization problem for optimal structural parameters, sensitivities of acceleration increment were formulated with respect to stiffness and damping parameters, respectively. Incremental state vectors of vibrational motion were computed numerically by Newmark-${\beta}$ method. No model is pre-defined in the proposed algorithm for recovering the nonlinear response. A time-window scheme together with Monte Carlo iterations was utilized to estimate parameters with noise polluted sparse measured acceleration. A moving average scheme was applied to estimate the time-varying trend of structural parameters in all the examples. To examine the proposed SI algorithm, simulation studies were carried out intensively with sample shear buildings under earthquake excitations. In addition, the algorithm was applied to assess damage with laboratory test data obtained from free vibration on a three-story shear building model.

This study covers the optimum design of the 5-axis machine tool. In addition, the intelligent control secures structural stability through the optimum design of the structure of the 5-axis machine center, main spindle, and the tilting index table. The big requirement, like above, ultimately leads to speed-up operation. And this is inevitable to understand the vibration phenomenon and its related mechanical phenomenon in terms of productivity and its accuracy. In general, the productivity is correlated with the operation speed and it has become bigger by its vibration scale and the operation speed so far. Vibration phenomenon and its heat-transformation of the machine is naturally occurred during the operation. If these entire machinery phenomenons are interpreted through the constructive understanding and the interpretation of the naturally produced vibration and heat-transformation, it would be very useful to improve the rapidity and its stability of the machine operation indeed. In this dissertation, the problems of structure through heating, stability, dynamic aspect and safety about intelligent 5-wheel machine tool are discovered to examine. All these discoveries are applied to the structure in order to enhance the density of it. It aims to improve the stability.
H-infinity norm relates to the maximum in the frequency response function and H-infinity control method focuses on the case that the vibration is excited at the fundamental frequency, while 2-norm relates to the output energy of systems with the input of pulses or white noises and 2-norm control method weighs the overall vibration performance of systems. The trade-off between the performance in frequency-domain and that in time-domain may be achieved by integrating two indices in the mixed vibration control method. Based on the linear fractional state space representation in the modal space for a piezoelectric flexible structure with uncertain modal parameters and un-modeled residual high-frequency modes, a mixed dynamic output feedback control design method is proposed to suppress the structural vibration. Using the linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique, the initial populations are generated by the designing of robust control laws with different H-infinity performance indices before the robust 2-norm performance index of the closed-loop system is included in the fitness function of optimization. A flexible beam structure with a piezoelectric sensor and a piezoelectric actuator are used as the subject for numerical studies. Compared with the velocity feedback control method, the numerical simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
To improve the accuracy of time-frequency analysis (TFA) and instantaneous frequency (IF) extraction of structural dynamic response signals, this paper improves the spline-kernelled chirplet transform, and a new form of modified spline-kernelled chirplet transform (MSCT) based on revised Gaussian window function and energy concentration principle is put forward. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by numerical examples of single-component signal, multicomponent signal, single-degree-of-freedom Duffing nonlinear system and two-layer shear frame structure model. Then, a time-varying cable test is designed to collect the acceleration response signals under linear changing tension, and the IF extraction of these signals is performed by using MSCT, which further verifies the effectiveness and accuracy of this method. Through numerical simulation and experimental verification, it is proved that the proposed method can effectively extract the IF of nonlinear structure and time-varying structure.

The hyper-elastic material has been used gradually and its range was extended all over the industry. The performance prediction of hyper-elastic material was required not only experimental methods but also numerical methods. In this study, we presented the process how to use numerical method for hyper-elastic material and applied it to seat-ring of butterfly valve. The finite element analysis was executed to evaluate the mechanical characteristics of hyper-elastic material. And the optimum model considered conditions and features. According to that model, the load conditions were obtained by using CFD analysis.

In the design of high speed machinery, designers must consider the problem of possible structural failure due to excessive dynamically varying stresses, which are induced by the varying external loads and internal inertia forces, in the links of the mechanism. A study of the dynamically induced stresses would indicate what values of the minimum permissible fatigue strength should be for safe mechanism operation. This paper investigates the nature of the stress fluctuation in high speed mechanism on the basis of the effects of both the loads and the friction. The latter is apt to be neglected in the usual analysis in spite of the fact that it is always generated in the operating machinery. The analysis is performed on the coupler of the slider-crank mechanism for illustrative purposes and the results are expressed in a non-dimensional form for design applications.

Among many structural dynamics modification methods for plate and shell vibration problems, embedding an emboss to the surface is very efficient. But deciding an optimal position and shape using optimization algorithm needs defining geometry and remeshing the model for every iteration step to implement the method, which takes much numerical cost. An equivalent element produced here lessen the cost by representing the geometrical characteristics of an emboss using the element's material properties and thickness becoming a geometrically homogenous element of the base plate or shell. Some efficient factors which let the equivalent system have the same dynamical response as the original system embedded with emboss will be shown and the degree of equivalence will be tested in terms of natural frequency matching.

An automobile outside rear view mirror system has been analyzed and designed to reduce vibration with a finite element model. model analysis is conducted for the calculation of natural frequencies. harmonic analysis is utilized to estimate the displacements of the glass surface under dynamic loads. The model is verified with the vibration experiment of the parts and the assembled body. The structure of the mirror system is optimized for the robustness defined by the Taguchi concept. At first, many potential design variables are defined. Final design variables are selected based on the amount of contribution on the objective function. That is, sensitive variables are chose. The SN ratio in the Taguchi method is replaced by an objective function with the mean and the standard deviation of the quality characteristic. The defined objective function is appropriate in the structural design in that the vibration displacements are minimized while the robustness is improved.
Smooth picture module is operated by vibration to tilt the light from the DMD (digital micro mirror device) of DLP projection TV, which makes the screen of the TV smoother and DMD chip cost lower. To satisfy the vibration characteristics of smooth picture module, it is designed by optimizing moment of inertia, spring constant and damping coefficient, using structural and fluid dynamic simulation that showed a good agreement with experimental data. To reduce the material cost and moment of inertia, engineering plastic is used and the reliability is estimated. A VCM (voice coil motor) type actuator for smooth picture has to satisfy performance requirements such as higher driving force, lower power consumption, and lower cost. The initial design and optimization for VCM was performed using FE analysis. It allowed us to optimize the design of magnetic circuit of the proposed actuator to obtain higher force while maintaining a lower cost.
