This paper considers a transporter scheduling problem under dynamic block transportation environment in shipbuilding. In dynamic situations, there exist the addition or cancellation of block transportation requirements, sudden breakdowns and maintenance of transporters. The transportation of the blocks in the shipyard has some distinct characteristics. Some blocks are available to be picked up at a specific time during the planning horizon while some other blocks need to be delivered before a specific time. These requirements cause two penalty times : 1) delay times incurred when a block is picked up after a required start time, and 2) tardy times incurred when a block shipment is completed after the required delivery time. The blocks are located at different areas in the shipyard and transported by transporters. The objective of this paper is to propose heuristic algorithms which minimize the weighted sum of empty transporter travel times, delay times, and tardy times. Four heuristic algorithms for transporter scheduling are proposed and their performance is evaluated.
Many heuristics have been developed in order to overcome the computational complexity of job shop problems. In this research, we develop a new heuristic by selecting four simple dispatching rules, i.e., SPT, LPT, SR and LR, dynamically as scheduling proceeds. The selection is accomplished by using artificial neural networks. As a result of testing on 50 problems, the makespan obtained by our heuristic is, on the average, 13.0% shorter than the longest makespan, and 0.4% shorter than the shortest makespan obtained by existing dispatching rules.

There are so many situations in which production schedules need to be rescheduled, due to the uncertainty or dynamic characteristics existing in manufacturing environment. Under the circumstances, it is necessary to build a system which helps a schedule manager understand the dynamic situations and reflect his insight into the system easily. We developed a system that can improve a production schedule. The system consists of a schedule editor and a schedule generator. The schedule editor, a rule-based system, always keeps a schedule feasible by keeping track of local changes in the revised one. The schedule generator consists of a two-phase heuristic method. In the lst phase it generates a schedule by a priority rule with Giffler and Thompson algorithm then it improves the performance in terms of the makespan in the 2nd phase. Experimental results show that, most of the times, the system generates a better schedule than the one with ordinary priority rules only.

This paper analyses the tool switching problem in the dynamic environment, where parts to be processed on a flexible machine arrive randomly. As the total number of tools required to Process a set of parts on the machine is generally larger than the available magazine storage capacity, tool switches between parts are usually necessary. We assume that tool switching must be made just before the processing of the parts. Since the time required for tool switches can be significant relative to processing time and cause the processing of parts to be delayed, it is desirable to minimize the number of tool switches. Therefore, we present one heuristic algorithm to minimize the total number of tool switches and the t)reposed heuristic is compared with the KTNS (Keep Tool Needed Soonest) policy on randomly generated problems.
In this study, We reviewed the solution methods (for the heuristic and optimization method) for the single-item dynamic lot-sizing problem, and improved the efficiency (speed and optimality) of the conventional heuristic method by utilizing the inventory decomposition property. The iventory decomposition property decomposes the given original problem into several independent subproblems without violating the optimality conditions. Then we solve each decomposed subproblems by using the conventional heuristics such as LTC, LUC, Silver-Meal etc. For testing the efficiency of the proposed decomposition method, we adopted the data sets given in Kaimann, Berry and Silver-Meal. The computational results show that the suggested problem solving framework results in some promising effects on the computation time and the degree of optimality.

Delay time of receiving and delivery is one of important factors that should be considered in the evaluation of the customer service level of a container terminal. In this study, dispatching rules are tested with the objective of minimizing the service delay time for arriving outside trucks. A dynamic programming model is suggested for a static dispatching problem in which all the truck arrivals are known in advance. In order to overcome the excessive computational time of the dynamic programming technique, several heuristic rules are suggested that can be applied in practices. A simulation study is carried out to test the performances of the heuristic rules.

This paper analyzes a dynamic lot-sizing problem, in which the order size of multiple products and a single container type are simultaneously considered. In the problem, each order (product) placed in a period is immediately shipped immediately by containers in the period and the total freight cost is proportional to the number of each container type employed. Also, it is assumed that backlogging is not allowed. The objective of this study is to determine the lot-sizes and the shipping policy that minimizes the total costs, which consist of ordering costs, inventory holding costs, and freight costs. Because this problem is NP-hard, we propose a heuristic algorithm with an adjustment mechanism, based on the optimal solution properties. The computational results from a set of simulation experiment are also presented.

Cloud computing system consists of distributed resources in a dynamic and decentralized environment. Therefore, using cloud computing resources efficiently and getting the maximum profits are still challenging problems to the cloud service providers and cloud service users. It is important to provide the efficient scheduling. To schedule cloud resources, numerous heuristic algorithms such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithms have been adopted. The paper proposes a Modified Particle Swarm Optimization (MPSO) algorithm to solve the above mentioned issues. We first formulate an optimization problem and propose a Modified PSO optimization technique. The performance of MPSO was evaluated against PSO, and GA. Our experimental results show that the proposed MPSO minimizes the task execution time, and maximizes the resource utilization rate.

Recently, Many studies have been progressing to path-finding with dynamic information on the Terminal Based Navigation System(TBNS). However, the most of existing algorithms are based on $A{\ast}$ algorithm. Path-finding algorithms which use heuristic function may occur a problem of the increase of exploring cost in case of that there is no way determined by heuristic function or there are 2 way more which have almost same cost. In this paper, two abstract graph(AG) that are different method of construction, Homogeneous Node merging($AG^H$) and Connected Node Merging($AG^C$), are implemented. The abstract graph is a simple graph of real road network. The method of using the abstract graph is proposed for reducing dependency of heuristic and exploring cost. In result of evaluation of performance, $AG^C$ has better performance than $AG^H$ at construction cost but $AG^C$ has worse performance than $AG^H$ exploring cost.
