This study proposes a fast estimation method of dynamic reliability indices or failure probability for SDOF structure subjected to earthquake excitations. The proposed estimation method attempts to derive coefficient function for correcting dynamic effects from static reliability analysis in order to estimate the dynamic reliability analysis results. For this purpose, a total of 60 cases of structures with various characteristics of natural frequency and damping ratio under various allowable limits were taken into account, and various types of approximation coefficient functions were considered as potential candidate models for dynamic effect correction. Each reliability index was computed by directly performing static and dynamic reliability analyses for the given 60 cases, and nonlinear curve fittings for potential candidate models were performed from the computed reliability index data. Then, the optimal estimation model was determined by evaluating the accuracy of the dynamic reliability analysis results estimated from each candidate model. Additional static and dynamic reliability analyses were performed for new models with different characteristics of natural frequency, damping ratio and allowable limit. From these results, the accuracy and numerical efficiency of the optimal estimation model were compared with the dynamic reliability analysis results. As a result, it was confirmed that the proposed model can be a very efficient tool of the dynamic reliability estimation for seismically excited SDOF structure since it can provide very fast and accurate reliability analysis results.
Quickness and precision are the two most important requirements for an industrial scale used in production lines. In this paper, a new approach, "Mass-estimation algorithm by vibration-response measurement of dynamic balance", is presented to improve some of drawbacks in conventional scales. The system, consisted of velocity and displacement sensors, spring scale, analog-digital converter and microcomputer, is based on full utilization of dynamic mass measurement of velocity and displacement via microcomputer-assisted real time monitoring. The resulting system, when combined with appropriate mass estimation algorithm software, has shown its effectiveness in terms of two desirable characteristics required.

Previous method of computer simulation to predict the dynamic response of a vehicle has been based on the assumption that vehicle structure is rigid. If the flexibility of the vehicle structure becomes too large to ignore, rigid body assumption will no longer give good estimation of the dynamic characteristics. Therefore, in order to predict more precise vehicle dynamic characteristics, flexible multi-body dynamic analysis of a vehicle is necessary. This paper investigates dynamic characteristics of vehicle systems with flexible frames numerically. Joint reaction forces, vertical accelerations, pitch accelerations are analyzed for the vehicle systems with various flexible frames using multi-body dynamic analysis code and finite element analysis code.

The primary objective of this study is to provide simple analytical tools to estimate dynamic characteristics of steel framed floor system in hospital building for vibration serviceability due to human activities, bogie, medical equipment. and so on. In order to evaluate the dynamic characteristics and vibration levels according to steel framed floor system, we had executed impact test and measurement on steel structure floor system in various hospital buildings. But perhaps most importantly, how to make the most of deduced design factor for design of hospital building. therefore we presented the access method such as the three-dimensional F.E. numerical analysis on the basis of the design drawing, and the properties of all floors for estimation of vibration level in hospital building.
This technical paper describes and summarizes the flight test results for the longitudinal and lateal-directional dynamic stability characteristics. The target aircraft is the 4-seat carnard type aircraft, FireFly, which has been developed by KARI. Airborne sensors and real-time telemetry system are constructed to obtain the flight test data. The dynamic stability characteristics should be analyzed and tested by estimaitng the aerodynamic parameters in the dymaic equations of motion. The maximum likelihood estimation technique has been applied to the flight data from chirp, 3211, and doublet control inputs.

Two kinds of static and dynamic state estimation methods are newly discussed for the problem of the measurement disturbance of environmental low-frequency noise in the presence of wind-induced noise. First, the probability characteristics of wind-induced noise are discussed in the form of probability distribution conditioned by wind speed, based on the simultaneous observation of the wind-induced noise and wind speed near a microphone. Next, especially form the viewpoint of simplicity for practical use, two kinds of static and dynamic state estimation methods are discussed. The static estimation method using the information on wind speed is fundamentally supported by the conservation principle of energy sum. The dynamic one is the method by using a recursive digital filter with the parameters successively renewed by the information on wind speed. This can be also simplified by using well-know Kalman filter under the assumption of the Gaussian distribution. The effectiveness of proposed two estimation methods are shown through experiments under a breezy condition in the open filed.

In resistance spot welding process, size of molten nuggest have been utilized to assess the integrity of the weld quality. However real-time monitoring of the nugget size is an extremely difficult problem. This paper describes the design of an artificial neural networks(ANN) estimator to predict the nugget size for on-line use of weld quality monitoring. The main task of the ANN estimator is to realize the mapping characteristics from the sampled dynamic resistance signal to the actual negget size through training. The structure of the ANN estimator including the number of hidden layers and nodes in a layer is determined by an estimation error analysis. A series of welding experiments are performed to assess the performance of the ANN estimator. The results are quite promissing in that real-time estimation of the invisible nugget size can be achieved by analyzing the dynamic resistance signal without any conventional destructive testing of welds.

In this paper, the factors affecting the dynamic characteristics of a polyurethane spring restoring disk bearing are analysed to predict the dynamic behavior of the bearing. The prediction results and the test results are compared. The Young's modulus of the polyurethane spring, which varies according to strain of spring and the friction coefficient, of PTFE (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene), which varies according to the velocity and pressure of PTFE, are considered as the factors influencing the dynamic characteristics. W-PTFE virgin products are used and polyurethane springs are produced for the tests. The equation related to changing the friction coefficient and the modulus of elasticity are obtained through an inverse estimation of the test results. The estimation results, considering the factors affecting the dynamic characteristics, simulate the test results more appropriately than the estimation without the consideration of those factors.

As the requirements on precision and speed of motion in chip mounter increase, vibration forces are always exerted on operating conditions. To insure safety of the chip mounter, the vibration must be kept within an acceptable limit. The focus of this paper is on the identification of dynamic load characteristics and the estimation of static and dynamic stiffness characteristics for Frame Base by judicious selection of the number and the location of the support points. This study carried an analytical and experimental method to estimate the dynamic characteristics in structure.

The estimation of NC machining time is of significance since it provides shop floor engineers with information for the determination of the productivity of the floor as well as process schedules. The NC machining time commonly depends on NC programs since they have various important information such as tool positions, feed rates, and other miscellaneous functions. Thus, nominal NC machining time can be easily acquired based on the programs. Actual machining time, however, cannot be simply obtained because of the dynamic characteristics of a NC machine controller such as acceleration and deceleration. Hence, this study presents a NC machine time estimation model for sculptured surfaces, considering the dynamic characteristics. The estimation model uses the distribution of NC blocks according to a factor influencing the machining time. Finally, machining time is estimated by a statistical machining time estimation model representing the relationship between the block distribution and the machining time. The parameters in the model are searched out by a genetic algorithm.
