  • The purpose of this study is to examine the types and characteristics of Chinese indigo dyed designs performed until today in private houses of Chinese minority races and to examine the modern value of traditional dyeing crafts of minority races by investigating the cases of utilizing modern private Chinese indigo dyed designs. As the research methodology for theoretical study about the history of Chinese traditional pattern dyeing, the origin, types and characteristics of Chinese indigo dyed designs, the preceding research data, photo data, and Internet data were utilized, and for the empirical research on Chinese traditional dyeing techniques and the cases of utilizing today Chinese indigo dyed designs, the on-site survey on Guizhou and Yunnan was conducted during February and March 2008 and the data were collected and analyzed. Based on the results of this research, it was found that Chinese indigo dyed designs represented Chinese traditional pattern dyeing, which was inherited and developed mainly in Chinese minority races and Chinese. It could be seen that according to geographical distribution and characteristics of each race, the types and characteristics of dyeing techniques were formed, which are classified into the batik of the Miao of Guizhou in the Chinese southwestern region, the tie-dyeing of Bai of Yunnan, and Chinese blue calico(resist printing) of Chinese private houses in the Hunan and Huseo regions, and these represent the three typical Chinese dyeing techniques today. Based on the results of empirical research on the utilizing cases, focusing on the traditional living handicrafts of Chinese minority races, traditional cultural articles, and artworks, the modern values such as practical, cultural, and artistic values of Chinese indigo dyed designs could be rediscovered.

  • There exist some restrictions and difficulties in performing follicular unit extraction (FUE) in white-haired patients, for several reasons. In this paper, we introduce a novel technique for visualizing white hair during the punching procedure and graft preparation in FUE for white-haired patients. In white-haired older male patients, we dyed the surrounding scalp skin purple with a gentian violet solution-stained toothpick. Our method has several advantages: surgeons can easily focus on the center of the follicular unit and rapidly perform punching, they can recognize the condition of the harvested follicular units during FUE, and the hair transplant team can secure a clear view for trimming and loading into the implanter. We suggest that scalp dyeing in difficult FUE procedures, especially in patients with white hair, may be a simple method that provides a good visualization for donor site harvesting and for microdissection.

  • Acrylamidomethylated cellulose(AMC) was prepared by a reaction of N-methy-lolacrylamide(NMA) in the presence of acid catalyst, and pendent C=C double bonds are created on cellulose. Using the pendant double bonds as a site for Michael addition, a number of modified cellulose could be readily prepared. When AMC is treated in an aqueous solution containing sodium dihydrogen phospate and methylamine, the chemical structure of cellulose is represented as follow ; Cell-O-$CH_{2}$-NHCO-$CH_{2}$-$CH_{2}$-NHMe. Therefore in this paper, dyeing properties of modified cellulose for the acid dye were investigated.

  • The present study evaluated residential exposure to atmospheric formaldehyde and acetaldehyde according to distance from the a dyeing industry complex (DIC). This purpose was achieved by measuring concurrently the outdoor air concentrations in residences near the DIC and a certain distance away, plus the outdoor air concentrations at two industrial areas within the DIC boundary. Formaldehyde concentrations (median values of 24.3 and $22.5{mu}g/m^3$ in IS1 and IS2, respectively) were higher than acetaldehyde concentrations (median values of 7.4 and $7.3{mu}g/m^3$ in IS1 and IS2, respectively) at both sites. However, there was no significant difference in the industrial outdoor air concentrations of both formaldehyde and acetaldehyde between the two sites. In addition, the median formaldehyde concentration from the residential site near the DIC (RS1) was about 1.5 times higher than that from the residential site far away from the DIC(RS2), and the median acetaldehyde concentration from RS1 was about 1.3 times higher than that from RS2. It is noteworthy that the mean or median risk as well as these maximum risks are well above the USEPA's permissible risk level of $10^{-6}$ from environmental exposure. This suggests that appropriate management for formaldehyde and acetaldehyde is necessary in order to decrease risk of the residents of study areas, regardless of the distance from the DIC.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the irritation of the prodigiosin isolated from Zooshikella rubidus on the skin and eyes in New Zealand white rabbits. The tests were performed on the basis of Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) guidelines. Prodigiosin induced severe eye irritation at high concentration (0.5 g/site/ml) but there was no eye irritation at low concentration (0.3 mg/sitel ml). The primary irritation index was calculated from higher concentration (0.5 g/site/ml) to lower concentration (0.3 mg/site/ml). There were found non-irritation or induced mild irritation at lower concentration of prodigiosin application. On the basis of this study, it could be concluded that the prodigiosin may be non-irritant to mild irritant of usual application at lower concentration (0.3 mg/site) resulting it is safe and useful in dyeing technology of fabrics.

  • This study was aimed to explain the essence of Hydroxylammonium hydrochloride(H.A.) effect on degummed silk fiber increasing the colour sites due to oxime generating reaction. H.A. in aqueous solution caues to increase the amount of [H+] and reduce pH values as the concentration of H.A. increases. The rate of [H+] absorption of silk fiker in acidic solution differs on the basic of solution pH and shows a specific uptake in each pH, the lower the pH of solution, the higher the amount [H+] absorption. The pH of solution after treating of silk fiber in H.A. and HCl, showed more remaining [H+] in H.A. solution due to [H+] releasing under the procedure of oxime production. Also it was revealed that in higher concentration of H.A. the reaction for oxime fixation in silk fiber carried out stonger and as a result the bigger gap with acid uptake curve appeared. FT-IR analysis of silk fiber treated with H.A. revealed the creating of intermolecular H-bond at the 2,981-2.930 cm-1, which was not appeared for nontraeted silk fibers and shows H-bond between N-OH group in oue chain and C=) group in another chain of silk protein. Colourimetry of dyed silk fiber after H.A. tratment showed that the silk fiber treated with the high concentration of H.A. compare to low concentration, absorbed more dyeing molecules and so Showed less percontage of Whiteness.

  • This study researched the status and prospect of a natural dye program in Gyeongsang region that focused on private centers with sufficient infrastructure and abundant human resources were available for natural dyes. The entire site for metropolitan cities that have difficulty in securing the land are limited (as well as smaller) because they are closer to the city; in addition, they do not own the drying house and the agricultural land for natural dyes. It is understood that the one-time program of all centers researched help to promote and maintain the centers rather than generating profit; in addition, it is shown that Jun - Aug (summer) is preferred over Dec - Feb (winter). This program uses natural indigo; consequently, natural dye program for hobby and education is operated when it is required because the number of participants are low in most cases, Persimmon Juice is used for the dyeing raw materials. Programs in operation are often outsourced with other institutes registered under private certification system; therefore, many cases of starting business are found in the institutes operating programs directly after obtaining the certification. Their plans do not allow for investment in facility such as enlargement of experience center and prospect of program; in addition, business value is generally bright for business strategies that include an exhibition shop for natural dye products and program development.

  • Laundry services are becoming more specialized and diversified. Therefore, this study investigated consumers' perceptions of professional laundry shops by analyzing social media data. For this purpose, text data from blogs, cafés, and Q&A sections ('Ji-Sik-In') on the portal site, naver.com, was collected. Sixty-four keywords were extracted from 2,213 social texts and transformed into a one-mode matrix using KrKwic, a program for the analysis of Korean text. Semantic network analysis was conducted to understand the network structure and the results were visualized using NodeXL. Keywords included fashion items and materials that require specialized professional laundry services, words related to the establishment of laundry shops, and laundry shop brands. Essential keywords of professional laundry shops included 'luxury,' 'footwear,' 'removal,' 'bag,' 'leather,' 'sneakers,' 'padding,' 'premium,' 'dyeing,' and 'franchise.' These results could be used to deduce that consumers perceive a professional laundry shop as a franchise shop offering specialized professional laundry services. A cluster analysis was conducted to identify the types of consumer perceptions of professional laundry shops. The network was divided into three groups: 'specialized professional laundry service,' 'laundry and repair of winter coats and jackets,' and 'the establishment of a professional laundry shop.' According to the results, consumers perceive professional laundry shops as franchises that offer specialized professional laundry services rather than general laundry services. Therefore, professional laundry shops need a strategy to develop special laundry services that differentiate them from other companies and communicate with consumers about these services.
