  • In this paper, bidirectional AC-DC converter using dual half-bridge converter is proposed. A transformer leakage inductance in the dual half-bridge converter is used for making resonance with the capacitor of the voltage-doubler, which can help the switched current to be sinusoidal without extra inductive component and also the switching loss can be reduced through operation such as ZVS, ZCS. Both circuit analysis and design guideline are described, and also the feasibility for the proposed converter is shown through the hardware implementation and the experimental results.

  • In this paper, the authors present a new design for a dual-band metamaterial(MTM) absorber that utilizes resonant-magnetic inclusion of a split-ring resonator(SRR). The proposed MTM unit cell is constructed by two open complementary split-ring resonators(OCSRRs) and an SRR arrangement. To avoid the need for metallic back plate a planar array of SRRs for resonant-magnetic inclusion is placed facing toward the incident wave propagation direction. Each unit cell is printed on the two sides of a FR-4 substrate. A prototype absorber was fabricated with a planar array of $39{\times}39$ unit cells, and measured. The proposed backplane-less absorber can be used for microwave applications.

  • Generally, a single phase H-bridge converter feeding a single primary track is employed in conventional inductive power transfer systems. However, these systems may not be suitable for some high power applications due to the constraints of the semiconductor switches and the cost. To resolve this problem, a novel dual coupled primary tracks IPT system consisting of two high frequency resonant inverters feeding the tracks is presented in this paper. The primary tracks are wound around an E-shape ferrite core in parallel which enhances the magnetic flux around the tracks. The mutual inductance of the coupled tracks is utilized to achieve adjustable power sharing between the inverters by configuring the additional resonant capacitors. The total transfer power can be continuously regulated by altering the pulse width of the inverters' output voltage with the phase shift control approach. In addition, the system's efficiency and the control strategy are provided to analyze the characteristic of the proposed IPT system. An experimental setup with total power of 1.4kW is employed to verify the proposed system under power ratios of 1:1 and 1:2 with a transfer efficiency up to 88.7%. The results verify the performance of the proposed system.

  • This paper proposes a parameter design method for multi-element resonant converters (MERCs) with a unique resonant zero point (RZP). This method is mainly composed of four steps. These steps include program filtration, loss comparison, 3D figure fine-tuning and priority compromise. It features easy implementation, effectiveness and universal applicability for almost all of the existing RZP-MERCs. Meanwhile, other design methods are always exclusive for a specific topology. In addition, a novel dual-CTL converter is also proposed here. It belongs to the RZP-MERC family and is designed in detail to explain the process of parameter selection. The performance of the proposed method is verified experimentally on a 500W prototype. The obtained results indicate that with the selected parameters, an extensive dc voltage gain is obtained. It also possesses over-current protection and minimal switching loss. The designed converter achieves high efficiencies among wide load ranges, and the peak efficiency reaches 96.9%.

  • The design method for a dual frequency antenna using CPW feed lines is presented. The antenna structures can be simplified by CPW feed lines and easily designed on integrated circuits. The presented antenna has two resonant frequency ranges and each respective resonant frequency is determined by its own length of monopole antenna. We used an impedance matching method by using a monopole coupling related to the ground of CPW feed lines As a result, the resonant frequencies were 5.25[GHz] and 23.5[GHz] and their bandwidths $35.2\%,\;and\;41.3\%$, respectively, and also, the separation of the two frequencies $370\;%$. We presented an analytical designing method to implement a dual frequency monopole antenna and showed simple antenna structures having two frequency ranges for RFIC Integrations.

  • A variety of high voltage DC power supplies employing the high frequency inverter are difficult to achieve soft switching considering a quick response and no overshoot response under the wide load variation ranges which are used in medical-use x-ray high voltage generator from 20kV to 150kV in the output voltage and from 0.5mA to 1250mA, respectively. The authors develops soft switching high voltage DC power supply designed for x-ray power generator applications, which uses series resonant inverter circuit topology with a multistage voltage multiplier instead of a conventional high voltage diode rectifier connected to the second-side of a high-voltage transformer with a large turn ratio. A constant on-time dual mode frequency control scheme operating under a principle of zero-current soft switching commutation is described. Introducing the multistage voltage multiplier, the secondary transformer turn-numbers and stray capacitance of high-voltage transformer is effective to be greatly reduced. It is proved that the proposed high-voltage converter topology with dual mode frequency modulation mode control scheme is able to be the transient response and steady-state performance in high-voltage x-ray tube load. The effectiveness of this high voltage converter is evaluated and discussed on the basis of simulation analysis and observed data in experiment.

  • A novel high power factor Dual Half Bridge Series Resonant Inverter (DHB-SRI) for an induction heating appliance with multiple loads is proposed to remove the interferential acoustic noise caused by the difference between operating frequencies of adjacent loads. The circuit enables independent full power range control of two induction heating elements by one inverter circuit and has minimum switching losses due to the zero voltage switching characteristic. According to the mode analysis, I will explain the operation of the proposed circuit. To evaluate the required cooling capacity, loss analysis is performed through deriving some loss equations. In order to obtain the power factor correction capability and to lessen the system size, suitable design guides are given. Using the designed values, the proto-type circuit with 2.8kW power consumption for each induction heating element is built and tested to verify the operation of the proposed circuit.

  • Dual mode resonators were fabricated using high temperature superconductor. The deposited material was $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$(YBCO) on MgO(100) substrate using pulsed laser deposition. Dual mode resonators were patterned by standard photolithography process and wet etching. At the back-side of the substrate, the ground plane with the metal layer of Ti and Ag was fabricated. The transition temperatures of YBCO films were 85-88 K, and network analyzer was used for testing the performance of the resonators. The input/output feedline angles of each resonator were $60^{\circ}$and $100^{\circ}$. The resonant frequency of resonators was 10 GHz. In this paper, dual mode resonator was fabricated for the application of satellite communication.
