  • This study develops a scientific method in pilot selection by analysing a divided attention performance between the successful pilots and the failures in a flight training course. To measure the divided attention performance, Dual Task Method is used in which the primary task is a tracking task while the secondary tasks are, 1. short term memory task, 2. choice reaction task and 3. judgement task. Result shows that the performance of the pilots is significantly better (P < 0.1) than that of the failures in dual performance. In addition, the differences in the divided attention performance between the two groups are increased in proportion to the difficulty of the task and especially in the Short Term Memory, the increment is most dramatic.

  • Images of tobacco retail licenses have complex unstructured characteristics, which is an urgent technical problem in the robot process automation of tobacco marketing. In this paper, a novel recognition approach using a double attention mechanism is presented to realize the automatic recognition and information extraction from such images. First, we utilized a DenseNet network to extract the license information from the input tobacco retail license data. Second, bi-directional long short-term memory was used for coding and decoding using a continuous decoder integrating dual attention to realize the recognition and information extraction of tobacco retail license images without segmentation. Finally, several performance experiments were conducted using a largescale dataset of tobacco retail licenses. The experimental results show that the proposed approach achieves a correction accuracy of 98.36% on the ZY-LQ dataset, outperforming most existing methods.

  • Objectives : School-age children have mixed dentition and are sensitive to dental caries. Their dental condition is more important as it is directly related with oral health in their life, and parents' attention and education are necessary as the children can not manage their oral health voluntarily. Methods : To evaluate the effect of parents' occupational status on the oral health of children, this study conducted a questionnaire survey and analyzed the results along with the results of oral examination with 952 students and their parents of an elementary school located in Ulsan conducting school oral health projects on May, 2009. Results : As dental caries prevalence rate recorded 33.7%, 56.8% and 66.9% in non-dual income, professional dual income and non-professional dual income families, respectively, the rate of children of dual income families was significantly higher than that of non-dual income ones (p<0.05). Conclusions : For professional dual income families, although working mothers contribute to economic stability, they took less time to care or to educate their children compared to no-working mothers so that they need to pay more attention to oral health of children. In addition, more interest to and education for children of non-professional dual income families showing relatively lower socio-economic level and lack of time for children, were also necessary in school projects on oral health education and prevention.

  • The electrocardiogram (ECG) signal is commonly used to screen and diagnose cardiovascular diseases. In recent years, deep neural networks have been regarded as an effective way for automatic ECG disease diagnosis. The convolutional neural network is widely used for ECG signal extraction because it can obtain different levels of information. However, most previous studies adopt single scale convolution filters to extract ECG signal features, ignoring the complementarity between ECG signal features of different scales. In the paper, we propose a dual-scale network with convolution filters of different sizes for 12-lead ECG classification. Our model can extract and fuse ECG signal features of different scales. In addition, different spatial and time periods of the feature map obtained from the 12-lead ECG may have different contributions to ECG classification. Therefore, we add a spatial-temporal attention to each scale sub-network to emphasize the representative local spatial and temporal features. Our approach is evaluated on PTB-XL dataset and achieves 0.9307, 0.8152, and 89.11 on macro-averaged ROC-AUC score, a maximum F1 score, and mean accuracy, respectively. The experiment results have proven that our approach outperforms the baselines.

  • Objective: In the present study, the effects of visual restriction and unstable base dual-task training (VUDT), stable base dual-task training (SDT), and on stroke patients' balance and concentration abilities were examined. Design: Two-group pretest-posttest design. Methods: Dual-task training was conducted for thirty persons with chronic stroke who were hospitalized or receiving physical therapy and were randomly assigned to either the VUDT group (n=15) or the SDT group (n=15). The subjects were divided into two groups of 15 participants each, the VUDT group and the SDT group. Dual-task training was administered for 30 minutes per session, three times a week for 8 weeks. The participants' balance was measured via the center of pressure migration distances, functional reach test (FRT), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), and attention was measured using the trail-making test and the Stroop test. Results: In comparisons within each group, the two groups showed significant differences before and after the training (p<0.05). In the comparisons between the groups, the VUDT group showed significant improvements in center of pressure (COP), FRT, and BBS, and TMT compared to the SDT group (p<0.05). Conclusions: It would be more effective to conduct dual-task training as a rehabilitation training program under vision restriction and unstable supporting surface conditions than to conduct the test under unstable supporting plane conditions to improve balance and attention in chronic stroke patients.

  • Many daily activities require people to complete a motor task while walking. Substantial gait decrements during simultaneous attention to a variety of cognitive tasks have been shown by a group of severely injured neurological patients of mixed etiology. And previous studies have shown that the attentional load of a walking-associated task increased with its level of difficulty. The purpose of this study was to analyze subjects' gait changes are affected by the effects of arithmetic task difficulty and performance level. Participants performed a walking task alone, three different Arithmetic tasks while seated, and among them, two kinds of the simillar Arithmetic tasks in combination with walking. Reaction time and accuracy were recorded for two of the Arithmetic tasks. The mean values of the gait were measured using a Timed Up and Go test among 11 with post-stroke patients while walking with and without forward counting (WFC) and backward counting(WBC).There was significant Arithmetic Task Difficulty level between the 10-forward counting task condition(FC) and the 10-backward counting task condition(BC)(p=0.008). The mean values of T.U.G time were significantly higher under backward counting dual-task condition than during a simple walking task(p=0.009) and WFC(p=0.009). The change in T.U.G time during WFC was higher when compared with the change during a simple walking, but there was no significant difference (p=0.246). This study suggesting that a high interference could be linked with a high level of difficulty, whereas adaptive task enabled participants to perfectly share their attention between two concurrent tasks. Future research should determine whether dual task training can reduce gait decrements in dual task situations in people after stroke. And the dual-task-based exercise program is feasible and beneficial for improving walking ability in subjects with stroke.

  • This paper presents a two-dimensional attention-based long short-memory (2D-ALSTM) model for stock index prediction, incorporating input attention and temporal attention mechanisms for weighting of important stocks and important time steps, respectively. The proposed model is designed to overcome the long-term dependency, stock selection, and stock volatility delay problems that negatively affect existing models. The 2D-ALSTM model is validated in a comparative experiment involving the two attention-based models multi-input LSTM (MI-LSTM) and dual-stage attention-based recurrent neural network (DARNN), with real stock data being used for training and evaluation. The model achieves superior performance compared to MI-LSTM and DARNN for stock index prediction on a KOSPI100 dataset.

  • Recently, the dual-polarized antenna array has drawn attention due to the dependency of its signal processing gain on the signal polarization. Even though this polarization dependency makes it possible to mitigate a non-right-hand circularly polarized (non-RHCP) jamming signal from the same direction as a GPS signal, the dual-polarized antennas are not yet widely used for various applications. This study suggests a method that can acquire the polarization dependency of the signal-processing gain by intentionally misaligning antenna elements in a single-polarized antenna array. The simulation results show that the proposed method can successfully mitigate a non-RHCP jammer from the same direction as a GPS signal as if a dual-polarized antenna array does and provide comparable signal-to-jammer-plus-noise ratio (SJNR) performance with a completely aligned single-polarized antenna array and a dual-polarized antenna array.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of dual tasks on balance and postural control during standing in patients with cerebellar ataxia (CA). It was hypothesized that CA patients would exhibit different sway characteristics of the center of mass (COM) depending on the complexity of the secondary cognitive tasks compared with normal control subjects. Methods: A total of 8 patients with CA and age-matched healthy control subjects participated in this study. They were instructed to perform two balance tasks (non-dual and dual movement) with 3 different complexity of dual tasks. Range, variability, and velocity of COMs were measured. Results: According to the results CA patients showed deficits in balance and postural control with increased dual-task complexity during the static balance task in saggital sway movements. However, there was no significant difference in static balance in frontal sway. With higher difficulty in the cognitive task, CA patients took longer to stabilize their body center, while normal control subjects showed no change between conditions. In addition, CA patients had a greater COM resultant velocity during recovery in the dual-task condition compared with the single-task condition. These findings indicate that CA patients had defendable compensatory strategies in performing dual tasks. Conclusion: In conclusion, CA patients appeared to manage the priority to balance and postural control. Particularly in a situation with a postural threat such as when potential consequences of the loss of stability increase, they appeared to prioritize the control of balance and posture over the performance of the secondary task.
