Theoretical Study on Hoop Wrap of the Metal Wire for Type 2 High Pressure Tank (Type 2 고압용기를 위한 금속선재의 Hoop Wrap에 관한 이론 연구)

  • Recently, Type 2 high-pressure hydrogen storage tank is studied due to fast defect detection, easy manufacturing, and cost efficiency. Moreover, the dry winding a high-strength metal wire will make increased economic efficiency compare with the wet winding method and the carbon/glass fiber winding method. In this study, a theoretical study on the dry winding of a Type 2 high pressure hydrogen tank using a metal wire was done, and the equations of the total stress on the aligned and the staggered winding for the hoop winding were derived, and the following results were obtained by using these equations. As the diameter of the metal wire, the number of winding layers, and the outer diameter of the liner increase, the maximum stress decreases, but the difference between the maximum stress occurring in the aligned winding and the staggered winding increases. As the pressure increases, the thickness of the winding layer increases, but as the strength of the metal wire increases, the thickness of the winding layer decreases. In addition, regardless of the strength of the metal wire, the thickness of the winding layer of the staggered winding was about 13.4% thinner than that of the aligned winding.

  • In dry-winding(unfilled) superconducting magnets, the behavior of liquid helium occupying the extremely small void space within the winding is contributed as a primary factor for transient stability of magnets. Therefore, numerical experiments have been carried out concerning the influences of transient heat transfer of liquid helium ocupying the void space in the winding and thermal properties of insulation at the conductor surface on the transient stability of magnets, by using three-dimensional finite element method(FEM). In this paper, we are going to consider three different cases for heat transfer characteristics of liquid helium to observe the influences of the rest of liquid helium in void space within the winding on the transient stability.

  • To fabricate a 0.7 FJ, 100 kVA $\mu$SMES device for improving power quality in sensitive electric loads, we developed a design code for a $\mu$SMES device and designed the 0.7 MJ $\mu$SMES device by using it. In this study special emphasis was placed in influence of winding tensions on quench currents of superconducting coils because dry superconducting coils are usually quenched by local disturbances due to strand motions. We first investigated the quench currents of a few kA class superconducting cables for various winding tensions experimentally. To prove the validity of the code and develop all techniques related to fabrication and test of the 0.7 MJ $\mu$SMES device, a smaller size superconducting coil was wound with high winding tension of about 15 kgf/$mm^2$ based on the test results of superconducting cables and tested. It isshown form the test results that designed parameters for the smaller size superconducting coil are in good agreements with measured ones and the quench current of the coil with high winding tension reaches nearly to the critical current of the superconducting cable without any training effects.

  • Tow Prepreg is the intermediate material for filament winding process that has been "pre-impregnated fiber tow" with resin system. As "dry filament winding" process emerges as a reliable alternative to conventional filament winding (called "wet filament winding") process, interest in tow prepreg as a material for dry filament winding is rising as well. In this article, we have reviewed the recent research trends in carbon fiber tow prepreg for high-performance rocket motor cases, fuel tanks for hydrogen vehicles and other high-quality commercial pressure vessels.

  • This paper describes a method of lifetime expectation for the dry-type molded transformer which is widely used in the domestic distribution system. And the result of the temperature accelerated aging test for the winding insulation and the analyzed report on the reliability are included in this study.

  • This paper deals with the coupled electromagnetic-mechanical field analysis for short-circuit electromagnetic force of the dry-type transformer. The short-circuit currents are calculated using external circuit in accordance with short-circuit test equipment. According to short-circuit current, the generated magnetic leakage flux density in dry-type transformer model is calculated by finite element method. The radially-directed electromagnetic forces in windings are calculated using electromagnetic field analysis and then axially-directed electromagnetic forces in windings are calculated using electromagnetic-mechanical field analysis. The calculated axially-directed electromagnetic forces in high voltage winding are compared to those of measured ones and showed good agreement with experimental results.

  • This paper presented the characteristic of Heat-transfer on the winding composed with Epoxy-resin in a 50 kVA cast-resin dry type transformer The resin cast transformer is used widely in supplying electricity systems. However, to know the thermal characteristics of that is very useful in designing, manufacturing, and maintaining, there is no pertinent method to calculate this. In this paper, Based on the results of the physical characteristics and the simulation by commercial software using FEM method, we established the Prototype Model for this. According to that Model, an analysis on a variation of the hottest spot temperature was discussed as a function of thermal conductivity for the individual windings composed with Epoxy-resin. The thermal conductivity of the individual windings with reference to upper way was discussed.

  • Dry winding is generally adopted in superconducting coils of an UPS system. In these kinds of coils a quench is often initiated by a disturbance such as wire motion that generates a highly localized normal zone in a superconducting wire. To fabricate the stable coils, stability of the superconducting wire should be touched. In this paper, a model for a transient stability analysis of the wire is suggested. The influence of a local disturbance, cooling, an external field and a stabilizer to superconductor ratio on the wire stability is investigated and discussed.

  • Shunt reactors are used to compensate for capacitive VARs generated by lightly loaded transmission lines or underground cables. They are normally connected to the transformer tertiary winding.
