  • An elephant digests only around 30~45% of what it consumes; therefore the undigested material mainly passes as intact fibres. Elephant food is usually composed of grass, leaves, twigs, bark, fruit and seed pods. This research aimed to utilize the elephant dung fibers as material for composite board and citric acid as a bonding agent. Citric acid contents in this research were set at 0 wt% (binderless composite board), 10 wt%, 20 wt%, and 30 wt% based on dry weight particles, while the target density was set at $0.8g/cm^3$. Pressing temperatures were set at $180^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$ with the pressing time was 10 minutes. Physical and mechanical properties tests were then performed according to Japanese Industrial Standard A 5905. The result showed that elephant dung fibers could be used as potential materials for composite board. Addition of citric acid and pressing temperature significantly increased the quality of composite board. Infrared analysis indicated that the presence of ester linkages much higher with the increasing of citric acid content and pressing temperature. The optimum properties of composite board made from elephant dung fibers could be achieved at pressing temperature of $200^{\circ}C$ and a citric acid content of 20 wt%.

  • Intensive technological research on the Dry-bag CIP equipment was carried out to improve the dimensional accuracy and the productivity. The rubber mold design technology using FEM simulation during pressing was introduced, in order to achieve higher dimensional preciseness, and criteria for the selection of the In-line type or Off-line type, were established based on the powder flowability index proposed by Carr. Based on these research results, high productivity Off-line Dry-bag CIP equipment, which can realize good dimensional accuracy with high productivity, was developed even for non-granulated powders with poor packing density.

  • This study was carried out to determine the possibility of making fiberboard through the dry forming process, utilizing the tannin-like material of the Asplund pulp from the silk worm oak as a binder. The fiberboard was made through paraformaldehyde treatment, spray of NaOH solution and adjustment of mat moisture content, by hot-pressing at $220^{\circ}C$, and 50-6-50kg/$cm^2$ pressure with 6-min. (0.6-1.8-3.6) three-stage pressing cycle. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The modulus of rupture value of fiberboard treated with NaOH solution was greater than that of untreated. The value was increased in proportion to the paraformaldehyde content from I to 5%, but there was no increasing between 5 and 7% paraformaldehyde content. The value became higher along with the increase of mat moisture content from 15% to 25%. 2. The water adsorption of fiberboard treated with NaOH solution was lower than that of untreated. The value was de"creased in proportion to the paraformaldehyde content from 1 to 5%, but there was no decreasing between 5 and 7% paraformaldehyde content.. 3. A good quality fiberboard (modulus of rupture value of about 250kg/$cm^2$) was made through 5% paraformaidehyde treatment and 3% treatment of 10% NaOH solution, when the mat moisture content was 25%. was 25%.

  • The increase of wet web solid content after wet press and dry compressive strength were observed in lab study by judicious application of wood flour and starch for the old corrugated container (OCC). Pearl starch was better than cationic starch in strength development, but cationic starch was better for drainage. Application of vacuum on the mixed solution of wood flour and starch helped strength development further without loss of other properties. The effect of wood flour addition on wet web solid content improved as the wet pressing pressure increased. The use of wood flour and starch mixture improved wet web solid contents further.

  • The effect of epoxy resin on the water stability of HAC/PVA based MDF cement composite were stu-died through the three different forming methods calendering extruding and warm pressing. In prexing step the epoxy resin was added in 5-15wt% of cement weight. The 3-point flexural strength of each dry and wet specimen which were immersed in water during 3. 7, 14 days was estmated and the mi-crostructural change of epoxy resin-added MDF cement composite due to water immersion was charac-terized by scanning electron microscopy. As the addition amount of epoxy resin the im-provement of water stability of MDF cement composite was achieved in most case. Especially through the warm press forming method the effectiveness of epoxy resin addition to the water stability was enhanced. When the epoxy resin was added by 5wt% to 7wt% the optimum flexural strength and water stability

  • Modified Ni/YSZ cermets for high temperature electrolysis were synthesized by the direct ball milling of Ni and YSZ powder. The ball milling was carried out in dry process and in ethanol with varying milling time. While the dry-milling decreased the average size from 65 to $80{\mu}m$, the wet-milling decreased the average size down to $10{\mu}m$. In addition, very fine particles less than $0.1{\mu}m$ were observed in the wet-milling condition. The subsequent process of cold-pressing and sintering at $900^{\circ}C$ for 2 h did not affect the particle size of dry-milled powder. The electrical conductivity of the dry-milled Ni/YSZ cermet showed the value of $5{\times}10^{2}\;S/cm$ and this value was increased to $1.4{\times}10^{4}\;S/cm$ after the sintering at $900^{\circ}C$ for 2 h.

  • The characteristics of spray-dried granules are important for dry pressing operation since they have great influences on die-filling, compaction ratio, and resulting green microstructure. An attempt was made to control granule morphology and the packing structure of fine Si3N4 particles in granules by adjusting suspension property. Mercury porosimetry was used to characterize the pore structures of both granules and green compacts. Finally, the effects of particle packing structure in granules and green microstructure on sintering behavior were investigated.

  • This study was conducted to develop a dry paddy seeder of strip tillage. The prototype is 8 rows drill seeder, which is composed of a strip tillage, sowing and fertilizing device, and pressing wheels to do the strip tillage, sowing, fertilizing, and draining ditch, simultaneously. The performances of prototype was evaluated through the investigation of fuel consumption, tillage torque, ratio of soil breaking, and economical efficiency and the results were compared with these of a dry paddy seeder that needs whole tillage. According to the USDA textural classification, the experiment field was composed of sandy loam which consisted of 56.8 of sand, 30.2 of silt and 13.0 % of clay, respectively. Its hardness ranged from 952 to 1,673 kPa depending on the soil depth, and its soil moisture content was 24.9%(d. b.) Fuel consumption of the prototype was 5,015g/hr at 2,000 rpm of engine, which was consequently 64% smaller than that of the conventional dry paddy seeder. For the tillage torque, it ranged from 132 to 206N$.$m depending on the tillage pitch, which was 10∼30% smaller than that of the conventional dry paddy seeder. The ratio of soil braking of the prototype was 87∼98%, whereas that of the conventional dry paddy seeder was 80∼97%. The working performance of the prototype was surveyed to be 3.8hours/ha, which was about 5 times higher than that of the conventional dry paddy seeder. The cost reduction of 26.3% was obtained by using the prototype.

  • Ni0.3Zn0.7Fe2O4 ferrite specimens were fabricated by dry pressing and tape casting method. The properties of each specimen were measured and compared. In order to design and manufacture the chip devices effectively, one important criterion can be that the sintered density of the laminated body should approach close to that of the dry pressed body which is regarded as standard. This requirement could be satisfied by controlling the solid loading of the ferrite sheet, lamination temperature and pressure. Using the optimum conditions (solid loading 55 wt%, lamination temperature 6$0^{\circ}C$, lamination pressure 400 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, sintered at 125$0^{\circ}C$ 2h) a sintered ferrite, with the density of 5.18g/㎤ and permeability of 1390 at 0.5 MHz, were obtained.
