시간경과에 따른 교정용 bracket과 교정선 사이의 마찰력 변화에 관한 연구 (A STUDY ON THE CHANCES OF FRICTIONAL FORCE BETWEEN BRACKET AND ORTHODONTIC WIRE WITH TIME IN ARTIFICIAL SALIVA)

  • The friction of orthodontic appliances is recogonized to be detrimental to tooth movement. The purpose of this study was to determine the magnitude of frictional force changes between bracket$(018'\times025'\;solt)$ and orthodontic wires(stainless steel, cobalt-chromium, and $\beta-titanium$, $017'\times0.25'$ rectangular) with time. The wire was secured in the bracket slot with a elastomeric ligature. Frictional forces were measured by universal testing machine. The following conclusions were obtained. 1. The frictional forces under dry condition were greater than those in saliva. 2. The frictional forces produced by cobalt-chromium wire were less than those generated by stainless steel and $\beta-titanium$ wire. 3. The frictional forces increased progressively with time, and the amount of increase on first two weeks was greater than on last two weeks. 4. The change of frictional force under dry condition was greater than in artificial saliva.

건성마찰력을 받는 탄성재료의 안정성에 미치는 중간 지지의 효과 (Effect of an Intermediate Support on the Stability of Elastic Material Subjected to Dry Friction Force)

  • This paper discussed on the effect of an intermediate support on the stability of elastic material subjected to dry friction force. It is assumed in this paper that the dry frictional force between a tool stand and an elastic material can be modeled as a distributed follower force. The elastic material on the friction material is modeled for simplicity into an elastic beam on Winkler-type elastic foundation. The stability of beams on the elastic foundation subjected to distributed follower force is formulated by using finite element method to have a standard eigenvalue problem. The first two eigen-frequencies are obtained to investigate the dynamics of the beam. The eigen-frequencies yield the stability bound and the corresponding unstable mode. The considered beams lose its stability by flutter or divergence, depending on the location of intermediate support.

  • This paper discussed on the stability of elastic material subjected to dry friction force for low boundary conditions: clamped free, clamped-simply supported, simply supported-simply supported, clamped-clamped. It is assumed in this paper that the dry frictional force between a tool stand and an elastic material can be modeled as a distributed follower force. The friction material is modeled for simplicity into a Winkler-type elastic foundation. The stability of beams on the elastic foundation subjected to distribute follower force is formulated by using finite element method to have a standard eigenvalue problem. It is found that the clamped-free beam loses its stability in the flutter type instability, the simply supported-simply supported beam loses its stability in the divergence type instability and the other two boundary conditions the beams lose their stability in the divergence-flutter type instability.

  • To estimate the possibility in the application of TiN ion-plating to the orthodontic appliance, this study investigated frictional force and frictional coefficient between non-ionplated and TiN ion-plated to the orthodontic appliance. The obtained results were as follows : 1. For each group, the frictional force between metal bracket and arch wire in the wet condition was exhibited lower than that in the dry condition. 2. In the dry condition, the frictional force was lowest with fourth group, and it increased in the order of the 3rd, 1st, and 2nd group. Same situation happened in the wet condition. 3. Experimental results using ceramic & plastic bracket showed that group B was lower than group A, and group D was similar to group C. 4. The surface texture after experiment showed that the scratch due to a friction with bracket was observed in an arch wire of dry contition. Also the surface of bracket was rougher than before. 5. We observed that a specimen surface processed with the TiN ion plating was smoother than that of without the TiN ion plating. 6. The surface texture of a metal bracket and an arch wire in the wet condition was observed smoother than that in the dry condition. 7. In the dry condition, the friction coefficient of each specimen was very similar to each other, but in the wet condition, the friction coefficient of specimen processed with the TiN ion plating showed lower values.

  • Practitioners are aware of the presence of friction between bracket system and archwire during sliding movement of teeth. Clinically a mesiodistally applied force must exceed the frictional force to produce a tooth movement. The objective of this study were to determine, on a dry condition, changes in magnitude of friction with respect to load, 3rd order inclination (Torque), archwire materials and ligature type. Three wire alloys (Stainless Steel, TMA, NiTi) in two wire sizes (.016, .016x, .022 inch) were examined respect to two bracket system (Straight, Standard), and two ligature type (Metal, Plastic ligature) at three levels of load (100g, 150g, 200g). The results were as follows; 1. Frictional resistance was found to increase with increasing load for S.S., TMA, NiTi. 2. The straight bracket system was exhibited more frictional force than standard bracket system for .016x, .022 S.S. tightly ligated metal ligature. But, torque difference did not increase friction for loose metal ligature & plastic ligature. 3. Regardless of the ligature type, torque and load, stainless steel wire sliding against stainless steel exhibited the lowest friction, and TMA sliding against stainless steel exhibited the highest friction. 4. The loose stainless steel ligature generated lower frictional resistance than plastic ligature in all experimental groups. 5. The following factors affected friction in decreasing order; wire material ligature type, and load.

  • The effect of viscous damping on stability of beam resting on an elastic foundation subjected to a dry friction force is analytically studied. The beam resting on an elastic foundation subjected to dry friction force is modeled for simplicity into a beam resting on Kelvin-Voigt type foundation subjected to distributed follower load. In particular, the effects of four boundary conditions (clamped-free, clamped-pinned, pinned-pinned, clamped-clamped) on the system stability are considered. The critical value and instability type of columns on the elastic foundation subjected to a distributed follower load is investigated by means of finite element method for four boundary conditions. The elastic foundation modulus, viscous damping coefficient and boundary conditions affect greatly both the instability type and critical load. Also, the increase of damping coefficient raises the critical flutter load (stabilizing effect) but reduces the critical divergence load (destabilizing effect).

Frictional Characteristics of Woven and Nonwoven Wipes

  • Demand for the fabric wipes is growing continuously. Wipes in industry are used for cleaning purpose. Cleaning involves rubbing action, so it is very important to know how much frictional force is encountered during the cleaning action. In this study the effects of normal load, sliding speed on frictional characteristics of nonwoven and woven wipes, both dry and wetted with different liquids, against glass and floor tile surfaces have been reported. With the increase in the normal load the coefficient of friction goes on decreasing for both nonwoven and woven wipes and this trend is observed in both dry and wet wipes. The coefficient of friction of both nonwoven and woven wipes against glass surface is in general higher than the floor tile surface. The wipes wetted with water shows an increase in coefficient of friction as compared to dry sample, but there is reduction in the coefficient of friction when the wipe samples are wetted with vegetable oil. In case of dry wipes, the coefficient of friction in case of nonwoven wipe is higher than the woven wipe. In case of woven wipes, the ranges of coefficient of friction either due to change in liquid type, normal load or sliding speed are in general smaller than that in case of nonwoven fabrics.

교정선의 종류, 결찰방법, 타액의 유무에 따른 마찰력의 비교연구 (A comparative study of frictional forces according to orthodontic wires and ligation method under dry and wet conditions)

  • 치아에 부착된 bracket이 교정선을 따라 이동할때 필연적으로 bracket과 교정선, 결찰재 사이에 마찰력이 발생된다. 이에 저자는 동일한 bracket내에서 교정선의 종류, 결찰방법, 건조와 타액상태에 따른 마찰력 차이, 타액의 윤활제로서의 기능을 살펴보기 위해 본 연구를 시행하게 되었다. 본 실험에 사용된 bracket은 .18" ${\times}$ .025" slot의 상악 견치용 standard edgewise bracket(RMO. USA)이며, 교정선은 .016" , .016" ${\times}$ .022" 크기의 Cobalt-chromium(Elgiloy : RMO. USA), Nickel-titanium(Ni-Ti) (ORTHOLLOY : Goldstar Cable Co. KOREA), Beta- titanium(TMA : ORMCO Co., USA)의 2가지 형태의 3종을 이용하여 활주할 때의 마찰력을 만능시험기(Instron, M 1000 EC)를 사용하여 계측하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 각각의 동일조건하에서 교정선의 재질에 따른 마찰력은 Co-Cr, Ni-Ti, ${\beta}$-Ti순으로 증가하였다. 단, 타액상태에서 elastomeric으로 결찰한 .016" 군에서는 예외이다. 2. 각 조건하(건조/타액상태, .016" /.016" ${\times}$.022" ) 에서 결찰방법에 따른 마찰력은 elastomeric보다 stainless steel결찰에서 더 크게 나타났다(p<0.05). 3. 각각의 교정선과 결찰방법에서 타액 유무에 따른 마찰력은 stainless steel로 결찰한 .016" Co-Cr, Ni-Ti, ${\beta}$-Ti는 타액상태에서 감소하나, stainless steel로 결찰한 .016" ${\times}$.022" Co-Cr, Ni-Ti, ${\beta}$-Ti는 타액상태에서 증가하였다(p<0.05). 4. 각 조건하(건조/타액상태, elastomeric/stainless steel 결찰) .016" 과 .016" ${\times}$.022" 교정선 사이의 마찰력은 .016" ${\times}$.022" 교정선에서 증가하였다(p<0.05).

  • Frictional characteristics with the change of dynamic parameters, such as stiffness, inertia and damping, in the friction measurement at dry sliding surfaces were experimentally and theoretically investigated throughout the study. Dynamic frictional force and the variation in the normal load were mainly measured at the various conditions of system dynamic parameters with which stiffness in the normal direction, loading mechanisms and test materials were varied. For the normal load, mechanisms using both a dead weight and a pneumatic cylinder were applied, which resulted in change of the inertia and damping of the test rig. Test materials were steel, rosin and PTFE, which have different types of intrinsic frictional characteristics. Test results showed that frictional characteristics under different dynamic parameters could be different even though the operating variables were the same and also they could result in the variation in the normal load, which could consequently affect the wear mechanism.

마찰시험기의 하중부과 방법과 수직방향 강성 변화에 따른 미끄럼 마찰특성 평가 (Evaluation of the Sliding Frictional Characteristics at the Different Loading Mechanisms and Normal Stiffness)

  • Frictional characteristics with the change of loading method and normal stiffness at dry sliding surfaces were experimentally and theoretically evaluated in this study. For the study, a ball-on-disk typed test rig was built and implemented, which allowed a proper selection of loading mechanism and normal stiffness of the test rig. Loading method were varied from dead weight to pneumatic cylinder and spring loading, and the normal stiffness was varied by a spring of different stiffness. Test results showed that frictional characteristics at various loading methods were different even though the operating variables were the same. Discrepancy in the frictional characteristics, such as coefficient of friction and fluctuation in the normal load, were explained by the change in dynamic parameters of the test rigs. Results also showed that coefficient of friction, which defines as a ratio of frictional force divided a normal load, could be differently evaluated in the calculation when fluctuation in the normal load was significant.
