In this study, we propose a non-invasive method to detect the drowsiness of a driver. The computer vision technology was used to extract an eye, track eyelids and measure the parameters related to the blink. We examined the blink patterns of a driver in drowsy state. For the evaluation of our image processing algorithm, the blink patterns were compared with the measured EOG signals. The result showed that our algorithm might be available in detection of drowsiness.
A driver-vehicle model means the integrated dynamic model that is able to estimate the steering wheel angle from the driver's desired path based on the dynamic characteristics of the driver and vehicle. Autonomous driving robot for factory automation has individual four-wheels which are driven by electronic motors. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of several four-wheel steering systems with the simultaneously steerable front and rear wheels are investigated and compared by means of the driver-vehicle model. A diver-vehicle model is proposed by using the PID control to velocity and trajectory of control autonomous driving robot. To determine the optimum speed of a autonomous driving robot, steady-state circle simulation is carried out with the ADAMS program and MATLAB control model.
A Static Induction Thyristor (SI-Thyristor) has a great potential as power semiconductor switch for pulsed power or high voltage applications with fast turn-on switching time and high switching stress endurance (di/dt, dV/dt). However, due to direct commutation between gate driver and SI-Thyristor, it is difficult to design optimal gate driver at the aspect of impedance matching for fast gate current driving into internal SI-Thyristor. Thus, to penetrate fast positive gate current into steady off state of the SI-Thyristor, it is proposed and proceeded the internal impedance calculation of the SI-Thyristor at steady off state with the gate driver while switching conditions that are indicated applied gate voltage, $V_{GK}$ and applied high voltage across anode and cathode, $V_{AK}$.
The purpose of this study is to develop a pulsatile drowsiness detection system that can compensate the limitations of existing camera - based or breathing pressure sensor based Drowsiness driving prevention systems. A heart rate sensor mounted on the driver's finger and an alarm system that sounds when drowsiness is detected. The heart rate sensor was used to measure pulse changes in the wrist, and an alarm system based on the Arduino, which works in conjunction with the laptop, generates an audible alarm in the event of drowsiness. In this paper, we assume that the pulse rate of the drowsy state is 60 ~ 65 times / minute, which is the middle between the awake state and the sleep state. As a result of the experiment, the alarm sounded when the driver's pulse rate was in the drowsy pulse rate range. Based on these experiments, the drowsiness detection system was able to detect the drowsiness of the driver successfully in real time. A more effective drowsiness prevention system can be developed in the future by incorporating the results of the present study on a pulse-based drowsiness prevention system in an existing drowsiness prevention system.
In the companion paper, the composition and structure of the MATDYMO (Multi-Agent for Traffic Simulation with Vehicle Dynamic Model) were proposed. MATDYMO consists of the road management system, the vehicle motion control system, the driver management system, and the integration control system. Among these systems, the road management system and the integration control system were discussed In the companion paper. In this paper, the vehicle motion control system and the driver management system are discussed. The driver management system constructs the driver agent capable of having different driving styles ranging from slow and careful driving to fast and aggressive driving through the yielding index and passing index. According to these indices, the agents pass or yield their lane for other vehicles; the driver management system constructs the vehicle agents capable of representing the physical vehicle itself. A vehicle agent shows its behavior according to its dynamic characteristics. The vehicle agent contains the nonlinear subcomponents of engine, torque converter, automatic transmission, and wheels. The simulation is conducted for an interrupted flow model and its results are verified by comparison with the results from a commercial software, TRANSYT-7F. The interrupted flow model simulation is implemented for three cases. The first case analyzes the agents' behaviors in the interrupted flow model and it confirms that the agent's behavior could characterize the diversity of human behavior and vehicle well through every rule and communication frameworks. The second case analyzes the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the acceleration rate changed. The third case analyzes the effects of the traffic signals and traffic volume. The results of these analyses showed that the change of the traffic state was closely related with the vehicle acceleration rate, traffic volume, and the traffic signal interval between intersections. These simulations confirmed that MATDYMO can represent the real traffic condition of the interrupted flow model. At the current stage of development, MATDYMO shows great promise and has significant implications on future traffic state forecasting research.
A novel converter-free AC LED driver that is highly resistant to the fluctuation of AC voltage is proposed in this study. By removing large passive components, such as the bulky capacitor and the large-value inductor, the integration of the driver circuit is enhanced while the driving current remains stable. The proposed circuit provides LED lamps with a driving current that can follow the sinusoid waveform to obtain a very high power factor (PF) and low total harmonic distortion (THD). The LED input current produced by this driving current is insensitive to fluctuations in the AC voltage. Users will thus not feel that LED lamps are flashing during the fluctuation. Experiment results indicate that the proposed system can obtain PF of 0.999 and THD as low as 3.3% for a five-string 6 W LED load under 220 V at 50 Hz.
