Behavior Characteristics of Batter Piles by Model Test (모형실험에 의한 경사말뚝의 거동 특성)

  • In this study, the behavior characteristics of vertical and batter piles were analyzed by the model tests and the numerical analyses. Model steel pipe piles with the inclination of 0$^{\circ}$, 10$^{\circ}$, 20$^{\circ}$ and 30$^{\circ}$ were driven into sands with the relative density of 79%. The static compression load tests and numerical analyses using PENTAGON 3D were performed. The bearing capacities of batter piles with inclination of 10$^{\circ}$, 20$^{\circ}$ and 30$^{\circ}$ were 111, 95, and 81% of those of vertical pile in model tests, and the results of numerical analyses were similar to those of model tests. The bearing capacities p.oposed by Petrasovits and Award (1968) were similar to those of model test in the inclination of 10$^{\circ}$, but overestimated in the inclination of 20$^{\circ}$ and 30$^{\circ}$. The skin frictions and end bearing loads were the maximum in the inclination of 10$^{\circ}$ and decreased with increasing the inclination angle.

Evaluation of Analysis Technique for Piles Driven by Vibration through Parametric Study (매개변수연구를 통한 진동타입말뚝 해석기법 평가)

  • Technique for analyzing a pile installed by vibrohammer was developed and parametric studies were executed in order to evaluate reliability of the developed technique. Comparing the accelerations obtained from parametric studies of varying eccentric moment and frequency, it can be seen that magnitude of maximum acceleration was proportional to the eccentric moment and square of frequency. It can also be seen that amplitude of displacement was roughly proportional to the eccentric moment but has nothing to do with the frequency. It can be said that all of the analysis results reflect characteristics of behavior of a pile in case of free vibration. Comparing the dynamic load transfer curves, maximum dynamic unit toe resistance was constant regardless of the eccentric moment and the frequency and it can be seen that dynamic unit skin friction was affected by the eccentric moment not by frequency. Comparing all of the analysis results, it can be said that the developed technique is reliable.

An Applicative Estimation of Safety Factors about Driven Pile Using the Results of Static Loading Test on the Ultimate State (극한상태의 정재하시험결과를 이용한 타입말뚝의 안전율 적용성 평가)

  • This study estimated ultimate load by the determination methods based on ultimate load, yield load and settlement using experimental data from static load tests that applied load to driven piles used in sandy grounds at home and overseas until failure appeared markedly. Estimated ultimate load was normalized with actually measured failure load, and was compared among the determination methods according to the characteristics of pile. In addition, I have identified to the determination methods suitable for estimating ultimate load, and reevaluated the safety factor when determining allowable load. From the results of this study were drawn conclusions as follows. Among ultimate loads estimated by the ultimate-load-based determination methods, the value interpreted by Chin's method tended to overestimate actual measurements, and B. Hansen 80% standard and the stability plot method were considered most reliable as their results were closest to actual measurements. According to the results of this study, in calculating the allowable load, if the safety factor to be applied to failing load obtained by the method of determining extreme load is converted to the safety factor applied to the Standards for Structure Foundation Design, a value larger than 3.0 should be applied except the B. Hansen 90% method, and a value larger than 2.0 should be applied in the methods of determining yield load. In addition, if the safety factor to be applied to load obtained by the settlement standard is converted based on safety factor 3.0 for extreme load, a value smaller than 3.0 should be applied to the total settlement standard and the net settlement standard.

Reliability Estimation of Static Design Methods for Driven Steel Pipe Piles in Korea (국내 항타강관말뚝 설계법의 신뢰성평가)

  • As a part of Load and Resistance Factor Design(LRFD) code development in Korea, in this paper an intensive reliability analysis was performed to evaluate reliability levels of the two static bearing capacity methods for driven steel pipe piles adopted in Korean Standards for Structure Foundations by the representative reliability methods of First Order Reliability Method(FORM) and Monte Carlo Simulation(MCS). The resistance bias factors for the two static design methods were evaluated by comparing the representative measured bearing capacities with the design values. In determination of the representative bearing capacities of driven steel pipe piles, the 58 data sets of static load tests and soil property tests were collected and analyzed. The static bearing capacity formula and the Meyerhof method using N values were applied to the calculation of the expected design bearing capacity of the piles. The two representative reliability methods(FORM, MCS) based computer programs were developed to facilitate the reliability analysis in this study. Mean Value First Order Second Moment(MVFOSM) approach that provides a simple closed-form solution and two advanced methods of FORM and MCS were used to conduct the intensive reliability analysis using the resistance bias factor statistics obtained, and the results were then compared. In addition, a parametric study was conducted to identify the sensibility and the influence of the random variables on the reliability analysis under consideration.

  • CPT 시험은 지난 30여년 동안 지반조사 분야에서 널리 이용되어 왔다. CPT 콘의 근입은 항타말뚝의 근입방법과 유사하기 때문에, CPT 콘의 선단저항력을 이용하여 말뚝의 지지력을 산정하려는 연구가 많이 수행되어 왔다. 본 연구의 목적은 기존에 제안된 CPT 선단지지력 공식의 적용성을 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 낙동강 하구 대심도 연약지반에서 수행된 항타 PHC 말뚝에 대한 총 172개의 PDA 시험자료와 80개소의 CPT 자료를 수집하였다. PDA시험의 CAPWAP분석에서 얻어진 선단지지력과 각 CPT 지지력 공식에서 산정된 선단지지력을 비교함으로써 각 공식의 적용성을 분석하였다. 분석에 이용된 CPT 지지력 공식은 Aoki 방법, Meyerhof 방법, Penpile 방법, Philpponnat 방법, LCPC 방법, Schmertmann 방법, Zhou 방법, ICP 방법, Eslami & Fellenius 방법, 그리고 UWA-05 방법의 총 10가지이다. 분석결과, Aoki 방법, Phillipponnat 방법, ICP 방법 그리고 LCPC 방법 순으로 그 적용성이 높은 것으로 나타났다.

New Development of Hybrid Concrete Support Structure with Driven Piles for Offshore Wind Turbines (하이브리드 해상풍력 파일 기초 콘크리트 지지구조(MCF) 개발)

  • This paper proposes a new hybrid support structure by the driven piles which removes disadvantages of the existing type of support structure for offshore wind turbines. The hybrid type of support structure is combined with concrete cone and steel shaft, and is supported not only by gravity type foundations but also by driven piles. For three dimensional analysis of the huge and thick concrete structure, a solid-shell element that is capable of exact modeling and node interpolations of stresses is developed. By applying wave theory of stream function and solid-shell element in XSEA simulation software for fixed offshore wind turbines, a quasi-static analysis and natural frequency analysis of proposed support structure are performed with the environmental condition on Southwest Coast in Korea. In the result, lateral displacement is not exceed allowable displacement and a superiority of dynamic behavior of new hybrid support structure is validated by natural frequency analysis. Consequently, the hybrid support structure presented in this study has a structural stability enough to be applied on real-site condition in Korea. The optimized structures based on the preliminary design concept resulted in an efficient structure, which reasonably reduces fabrication costs.

Lateral Behavior of Driven Piles Subjected to Cyclic Lateral Loads in Sand (모래지반에서 반복수평하중을 받는 항타 말뚝의 수평거동)

  • The behavior of laterally cyclic loaded piles is different from that of piles under monotonic loading and depends on soil and load characteristics. In this study, model pile load tests were performed using a calibration chamber to investigate the effects of load characteristics on the behavior of laterally cyclic loaded piles in sand. Results of the model tests show that the ultimate lateral load capacity of laterally cyclic loaded piles decreases linearly with increasing the number of cycles and increases slightly with increasing the magnitude of cyclic lateral loads. When the piles reach the ultimate state, the maximum bending moment developed in the piles decreases linearly with increasing the number of cycles and it occurs at a depth of 0.36 times pile embedded length for all the number of cycles. However, both the magnitude and depth of the maximum bending moment of piles in the ultimate state increase slightly as the magnitude of cyclic lateral loads increases. It is also observed that the cyclic lateral loading generates a decrease in the ultimate lateral load capacity and maximum bending moment for piles in the ultimate state. In addition, based on the model test results, a new empirical equation for the ultimate lateral load capacity of laterally cyclic loaded piles in dense sand is also proposed. A comparison between predicted and measured load capacities shows that the proposed equation reflects satisfactorily the model test results.
