A Mathematical Model Development for the Nitrification-Denitrification Coupled Process

  • Nitrogen pollution in urban and rural groundwater is a common problem and poses a major threat to drinking water supplies based on groundwater. In this work, the kinetics of nitrification-denitrification coupled reactions are modeled and new reaction modules for the RT3D code describing the fate and transport of nitrogen species, dissolved oxygen, dissolved organic carbon, and biomass are developed and tested. The proposed nitrogen transformations and transport model showed very good match with the results of other public codes.

막면 세균 증식에 의한 막오염에 관한 연구 (Effect of Membrane Fouling due to Micro-organism Growth on the Membrane Surface)

  • High quality drinking water can be produced by membrane separation process. A major problem in the current system is a membrane fouling control. In order to investigate membrane fouling due to E.coll removal, lab scale experiment using MF and UF and semi pilot plant experiment using UV radiation or not was performed. AS a result, the possibility of membrane fouling control by repressing of micro-organism on the membrane surface was clearly verified. But it was not clearly verified in this experiment the combined effect with other factors such as Turbidity, organic and inorganic matters.

고등학생들이 인식한 부모의 양육태도와 그들의 음주, 흡연, 약물남용과의 관계 (A Relationship between Percieved Parenting by High School Students and Their Drinking, Smoking and Substance Use)

  • 본 연구는 청소년이 인식한 양육태도가 청소년의 음주, 흡연, 약물남용에 어떻게 영향을 주는가를 알아보는 것이다. 본 연구에 나타난 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 우리나라 고등학교 2학년(95년도) 남학생들의 음주상태는 37.3% 정도가 가끔이나 자주 맥주정도의 음주를 하고 있으며, 9.5%정도가 독한술을 마시는 것으로 나타났다(전체 음주 46.8%). 흡연을 하는 것으로 15.8%가 가끔이나 꽤 자주 나타났고, 약물남용은 1%미만으로 나타났다. 여학생은 18%가 음주경험을 1.5%가 가끔 흡연을 하는 것으로 나타났고 약물남용은 0.8%가 가끔, 남학생 0.8%가 꽤 자주 한다고 보고하였다. 2. 남학생이 여학생보다 음주, 흡연을 많이 하는 것으로 나타났다. 3. 자녀가 인지한 부모양육태도와 자녀의 음주, 흡연, 약물남용 행동과의 관계는 통제적이거나 거부적일 때 음주 행동이 많았고, 통제적이거나 과보호일 때 흡연이 많았다. 허용적인 태도, 거부적인 태도와 음주행동과 상관관계가 있으며, 통제적인 태도, 거부적인 태도는 흡연과 상관관계가 있다. 약물남용은 상관관계가 나타나지 않았다. 아버지의 평등적인 양육태도는 음주와 흡연과 부적인 상관관계를 갖고 있었다. 어머니의 양육태도에 있어서는 통제적, 거부적인 태도가 맥주정도의 음주와 독한 술 음주는 거부적인 태도와 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 흡연과 음주는 평등적인 양육태도와 부적인 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 4. 부모의 사회경제적 지위와 음주, 흡연, 약물남용은 상관관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다.

지하수중 음이온, 양이온, 및 금속의 함량 (Groundwater Contamination by Cation, Anion and Pesticides)

  • According to the increase of population and industrialization, the quality of our drinking water are becoming worse by the contamination of resources, production of THM and other halogenated hydrocarbons during the purifying process, the problem of corroded water supplying pipeline, and the water reservoir tanks, Many people choose groundwater to drink instead of city tap water, but sometimes we get report about groundwater contamination by wastes, swage, septic tank, etc. It is reported that in U. S. over 20% of population are drinking groundwater, but U. S EPA reported the groundwater contamination by pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, fertilizer, and various chemical substances. Craun, et at announced the groundwater contamination by bacteria which are related with poor installation of septic tank. Johnson and Kross mentioned aboutmethemoglobinemia by NO3-N originated from human and animal feces, organic chemicals, and fertilizer, and as the results the infant mortality could be risen. Some scientist also reported the high concentration of metals in groundwaters and some cation and anions, and volatile organic compou nds. Authors investigated 80 groundwaters in urban, agricultural, and industrial area during last 3 month(June - August) to check any drinking water quality parameters are exceeding the standards. The results were as follow. 1, The average value of ammonia nitrate were within the standard, but 11.76% of urban area were exceeded the 10 rpm standard, in agricultural area 42.3175 were exceeded, and in industrial area 20.2% were exceeded the drinking water standard of 10 ppm. the highest concentration was 29.37 ppd in industrial area. 2. The mean value of metals is not exceeded the standard, but there were some groundwater whose Mn value was 0.424 ppm(standard is 0,3 ppm) in urban area, 0.737 rpm in agricultural area, and 5.188 ppm in industrial area. The highest Zn value was 1.221 ppm (standard is 1.0 ppm)was found in industrial area. 3. The percentage of contamination by general bacteria was 8.82% in urban area, 15.38% in agricultural area, and 15.00% in industrial area. Escherichia coil group was also contaminated by 35.29% in urban area, 30.76% in agricultural area, and 30.00% in industrial area. 4, The pH value was within the standard which means there was no influence by acid or alkali chemicals, nor acid rain Through the above results, all the groundwater should be tested to check the safety for drinking water and should make some alternative methods suitable for drink.

청소년 음주행위 영향요인 (Factors Influencing the Alcohol Consumption Behavior of Adolescents)

  • Purpose: The purpose was to investigate the factors influencing the alcohol consumption behavior of adolescents to provide basic data for a nursing intervention program to improve health management and prohibit alcohol consumption. Method: The subjects were 306 university students, living in K city in Chungnam province from April 1 to 20th, 2002. The instruments used were the alcohol consumption behavior scale, that is the drinking intensity score, and developed by Shin(1998)'s scale of drinking problem, refusal self-efficacy scale by Aas et. al.(1995), alcohol expectancy by Goldman et. al. (1989), TPQ scale by Cloninger(1991), depression scale by Zung(1974), family cohesion scale by Olson et. al. (1983). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test, ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression by using SPSS & SAS program. Results: The multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of alcohol consumption behavior was the influence of friends (drinking everyday) (17.0%). A combination of alcohol expectancy (8.0%), influence of friends (4.0%), father's influence (2.0%), depression(2.0%), refusal self-efficacy (1.0%), personality of harm avoidance(1.0%), and monthly pocket money (2.0%) accounted for 38.6% of the variance in alcohol consumption behavior. Conclusion: From the results, we recommend to use the database that develops nursing intervention program for decreasing the alcohol consumption behavior including the influencing factors in university students.

CuSO4에 의한 geosmin 유발조류(Anabaena macrospora)의 제거 (Removal of Geosmin Forming Alga (Anabaena macrospora) by Copper Sulfate)

  • We have studied the possibility of removing Anabaena macrospora by injecting copper sulfate ($CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$) into the raw water of a drinking water purification plant. Anabaena macrospora caused the unpleasant geosmin odor of drinking water in August 2001. The cell break-point of A. macrospora was 0.3 mg/L of $CuSO_4$. We were able to reduce the standing crops of A. macrospora effectively because $CuSO_4$ could break A. macrospora selectively. Because 0.3 mg/L of $CuSO_4$ could break both cells and akinetes, it reduced the possibility of a recurrent problem for them to meet a favorable condition. When $CuSO_4$ was injected in the early growth phase of algae and the mixing intensity was high, A. macrospora could be removed most effectively. The odor caused by A. macrospora was sustained for a while without any sudden change of environmental condition. Therefore, we hope that it could shorten the period of obstacle by injecting the optimal amount of 0.3 mg/L of $CuSO_4$. The water quality, alkalinity, conductivity, hardness and pH didn't changed by the injection of $CuSO_4$.

공무원 음주운전 대응방안 (Effective Actions of Public Official's Drunk Driving)

  • 이 연구는 사회적으로 영향을 미치는 공무원의 음주운전에 대한 심각성을 인식하고 공무원의 음주운전을 예방하기 위한 목적을 가진 연구로서, 이 연구의 완성을 위하여 음주운전과 공무원범죄에 대한 관련 내용으로 이론적 배경을 구성하였고, 각 기관별로 산재되어 있는 공무원의 음주운전 실태를 취합하여 문제점을 살펴본 뒤 해결방안을 제시하였다. 음주운전은 술을 마신 상태에서 자동차 등을 운전하는 행위로서 이는 대형사고를 유발할 수 있어 적극적으로 대응하고자 노력하고 있고, 그 결과 경찰의 강력한 단속에 의하여 최근 감소하는 모습을 보이고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 따라 공무원의 음주운전도 감소하는 모습을 보이고 있으나, 잘못된 회식문화 대리운전에 대한 불신 음주운전에 대한 잘못된 인식 등으로 인하여 여전히 발생하고 있다. 공무원의 음주운전은 일반인의 음주운전보다 사회적 해악이 더 크고 조직의 기강 및 위신에도 부정적인 영향을 미친다. 따라서, 이 연구에서는 공무원의 음주운전의 대응방안으로 강력한 처벌 및 해당 기관의 음주운전 예방을 위한 각종 제도 등을 제안하였다.

자살생각, 자살계획 및 자살시도와 관련된 유발요인의 영향력 분석: 6차년도 한국복지패널 참여자를 대상으로 (Analysis on Influence of Triggering Variables Related the Suicidal Ideation, Suicidal Plan, and Suicidal Attempt: Focussed on Participants in 6th KoWePS)

  • 본 연구는 6차년도(2011년) 한국복지패널에 참여한 10,991명을 대상으로 자살생각, 자살계획 및 자살시도로 이어지는 일련의 자살에 관련된 유발요인으로 개인심리변인, 개인 및 사회환경변인을 통합적인 연구틀에서 살펴보고자 수행되었다. 연구방법은 AMOS 21.0 버전을 활용하여 자살생각, 자살계획 및 자살시도로 이어지는 일련의 자살에 영향을 미치는 유발변인의 상대적 영향력을 로지스틱 회귀분석하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 우울, 자존감, 주관적 건강상태, 부부폭력, 성역할은 자살생각에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 주관적 건강상태, 문제음주는 자살계획에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 문제음주, 부부폭력은 자살시도에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 이를 근거로 자살생각, 자살계획 및 자살시도를 축소 예방하기 위한 사회복지적 함의를 제시하고, 이 연구의 제한점과 추후 연구에서 고려할 점을 논의하였다.

DYNAMICAL BEHAVIOUR OF A DRINKING EPIDEMIC MODEL

  • In this paper we have constructed a mathematical model of alcohol abuse which consists of four compartments corresponding to four population classes, namely, moderate and occasional drinkers, heavy drinkers, drinkers in treatment and temporarily recovered class. Basic reproduction number $R_0$ has been determined and sensitivity analysis of $R_0$ indicates that ${\beta}1$ (the transmission coefficient from moderate and occasional drinker to heavy drinker) is the most useful parameter for preventing drinking habit. Stability analysis of the model is made using the basic reproduction number. The model is locally asymptotically stable at disease free or problem free equilibrium (DFE) $E_0$ when $R_0<1$. It is found that, when $R_0=1$, a backward bifurcation can occur and when $R_0>1$, the endemic equilibrium $E^*$ becomes stable. Further analysis gives the global asymptotic stability of DFE under some conditions. Our important analytical findings are illustrated through computer simulation. Epidemiological implications of our analytical findings are addressed critically.

정수장 슬러지 폭기를 통한 방류수 수질 개선 (Improvement of effluent water quality by sludge aeration at the conventional drinking water treatment plant)

  • So many drinking water treatment plants are under various difficulties by new reinforced effluent standards. Since the target turbidity, much higher than annual average, for designing sludge thickener have to be set to confront high turbidity season, the sludge at thickener should be put up for a long time during usual days. So the soluble manganese and chloroform may be formed under the anaerobic environment in the sludge thickener when the sludge retention time is longer with low turbidity. This phenomenon results in difficulties to keep regulatory level of the discharged effluent. For an effort to overcome the problems, a sludge aeration was successfully implemented into the thickening process. As a result, the final effluent quality and sludge volume were much improved; 41 % of manganese, 62 % of chloroform and 35 % of sludge volume. Additionally, effluent quality was improved ; 61 % of Manganese on aeration with pH control and we could make sure of stability effluent quality despite a long sludge retention time. We recommended the standard of installation sludge aeration equipment to nationally supply water treatment plant under effluent water quality problem ; Manganese, Chloroform, etc.
