  • The calcium hydroxide$(Ca(OH)_2)$ which is the cement hydrate flowed into the tunnel by groundwater is reacted with microorganism in the soil, carbon dioxide$(CO_2)$ and the vehicle's exhaust gas$(SO_3)$. So its by-products are precipitated at the drainage pipe and these cause the drainage clogging. By this phenomenon, Degradation of water flow at the drainage system of the tunnel occurred and also pore water pressure is increased. Hence the acceleration of seepage and degradation of lining is occurred. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the field applicability of the Quantum Stick and Magnetic treatment in prevention of scale deposits at the Namsan ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ tunnel and the Zone ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ of subway. These technologies were installed into drainpipes with their performance monitored through occasional site visits. SEM and XRD were also performed on scale collected from these drainpipes. As a result, in case which factor technology is applied, scale creation is remarkably decreased and especially Quantum Stick treatment performing better than Magnetic treatment. Therefore, additional application of Quantum Stick or Magnetic treatment to the existing drainage is expected to decrease the drainage clogging of the drainage.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the nutrient load balance in the reservoir irrigated paddy block during growing seasons. Idong reservoir irrigation paddy block of 10.3 ha in size was selected to collect hydrologic and water quality data. Irrigation, canal flows, and paddy field drainage were measured using a water level gauge, while water samples were collected and analysed for water quality. The water balance analysis showed that 81 % and 75 % of total outflow were through paddy and irrigation canal drainage during 2011 and 2012, respectively. The water quality of paddy field drainage varied greatly depending on rice cultivation stage ranging from 0.05 to 24.55 mg/L and from 0.01 to 0.76 mg/L for T-N and T-P, correspondently. Paddy field drainage loads during May through June account for 64 % and 76 % in 2012 and 2013, while 82 % and 81 % for T-P in 2011 and 2012, respectively. The Pearson correlation analysis showed that rainfall was significantly correlated with nutrient loads during July through August due to runoff, and irrigation was related with nutrient loads of drainage during some period of July through September due to irrigation return flow. This study results showed characteristics of inflow and outflow nutrient loads from plentiful irrigated paddy block.

  • The passive treatment was required a large area for the treatment of acid mine drainage (AMD), and pollutants were discharged with mine drainage by the increased flow rate in summer. This study was performed to improve the turbidity and to precipitate the pollutants quickly using coagulants and flocculants in AMD of abandoned mine sites that were difficult to build the passive treatment system. The coagulant PAC (Poly aluminium chloride) and flocculant PAM (Polyacrylamide) were selected to improve turbidity in W mine waters. We also tested the particle size analysis, ICP-OES and/or SEM-EDS for water and sludge samples.

  • This study presents a methodology to estimate two distinct fractal dimensions of natural river basin by using fractal tree concept. To this end, an analysis is performed on fractal features of a complete drainage network which consists of all possible drainage paths within a river basin based on the growth process of fractal tree. The growth process of fractal tree would occur only within the limited drainage paths possessing stream flow features in a river basin. In the case of small river basin, the bifurcation process of network is more sensitive to the growth step of fractal tree than the meandering process of stream segment, so that various bifurcation structures could be generated in a single network. Therefore, fractal dimension of network structure for small river basin should be estimated in the form of a range not a single figure. Furthermore, the network structures with fractal tree from this study might be more useful information than stream networks from a topographic or digital map for analysis of drainage structure on small river basin.

  • The practice of business estimate flood discharge by rainfall-flow relation that is easy collection of observation data. The important factor is rainfall, coefficient of runoff, and drainage area for analysis of runoff-flow relation. The practice of business usually use probability rainfall that use a weighted average value after each observation post estimate probability of non-same time. It has more error than same time probability rainfall, and it can excess of estimation because it can't consider space distribution of rainfall. The study of result showed similar aspect with existing ARF but width of coefficient become smaller. And the comparison of peak flow did not different what used by ARF and same time probability rainfall(A group). But non-same time probability rainfall is bigger 25% more than another(B group). Between A group and B group of the difference increased with the lapse of time.

  • The computation of normal depth is very important for the design of channel and the analysis of water flow. Drainage pipe generally has the shape of curvature like circular or U-type, which is different from artificial triangular or rectangular channel. In this case, the computation of normal depth or the derivation of equations is very difficult because the change of hydraulic radius and area versus depth is not simple. If the ratio of the area to the diameter, or the hydraulic radius to the diameter of pipe is expressed as the water depth to the diameter of pipe by power law, however, the process of computing normal depth becomes relatively simple, and explicit equations can be obtained. In the present study, developed are the explicit normal depth equations for circular and U-type pipes, and the normal depth equation associated with Hagen (Manning) equation and friction factor equation of smooth turbulent flow by power law is also proposed because of its wide usage in engineering design.
