This study aims at hydrologically demonstrating the universality of power law distribution by analyzing runoff aggregation structures of river basins. Power law distribution is fitted to cumulative drainage area of basins of interest by maximum likelihood, which results in the power law exponents. And then those exponents are assessed in terms of the shape of catchment plan-form. As a main result all of the basins in this study have similar distributions of catchment area. The exponents from this study tend to be higher than the ones from previous researches reflecting self-similar property of the catchment plan-forms of interest. Further study is required about the universality of power law distribution by means of the more realistic flow routing scheme within the framework of DEM.
The deposition of sewer solids during dry weather in combined sewer systems results in a loss of flow capacity that may restrict flow and cause a local flooding and enhanced solids deposition. In order to solve these problems and to manage sewer systems efficiently, development of estimation equations for solid sediments In sewer systems is needed. However, estimation of solid sediments has performed using specific methods such as computer model before the development of estimation equations. In this study, solid sediments in sewer systems were estimated using MOUSE model for Gunja drainage basin in Korea and the estimated results were verified using estimation equations developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. As results, the estimated values using MOUSE model are smaller than that of equations developed in 1977 but greater than that of equations developed in 1984. Although the comparison between simulated and measured solid deposition is difficult due to the absent of measurement data, the estimated values using MOUSE model is reliable and can be used to develop estimation equations for solid sediment in Gunja drainage basin.
Urban Storm Sewer Optimal Design Model(USSOD) was developed to compute pipe capacity, pipe slope, crown elevation, excavation depth, risk and return cost in the condition of design discharge. Rational formula is adopted for design discharge and Manning's formula is used for pipe capacity. Discrete differential dynamic programming(DDDP) technique which is a kind of dynamic programming (DP) is used for optimization and first order second moment approximation method and uncertainty analysis is also for developing model. USSOD is applied to hypothetical drainage basin to test and verify. After testing the model, it is also applied to Ulsan drainage basin which was developed by Korea Land Cooperation(KOLAND). Comparing the design results of USSOD with those of KOLAND, discharge capacity 0.35 $m^3/sec$, the crown elevation is 0.77m higher and return cost is $9\%$ less than design results of KOLAND, which verify the improvement of USSOD. Layout design model using GIS and optimization including detention or retention effect are needed in the future study.

This study is to review the site of Seoul and its urbanized area expansion in relation with a geomorphic environments. Surveying on the urbanized area of Seoul by period and related geomorphic conditions found the following conclusions. Seoul urbanized area had been expanded from the cheonggyecheon drainage basin to its surrounding hills and marshland. The marshland development began during the Japanese period from around the tributaries of the Hangang river and expanded to the areas by the main stream of the river. The extensive marshland at the point where the main stream and its tributaries of the river join has been developed relatively new. The marshland development, which took advanced engineering skills and a huge investment, is comparatively later and also involves large additional expenses to keep the areas from food damages. Judging from the above findings, this study concluded that the urbanized area expansions in a big metropolitan city such as Seoul, are greatly influenced by geomorphic environments and the importance of geomorphic conditions still hold true even today when scientific and technological developments have reached unprecedented heights.

The purpose of this paper is to elucidate the formative processes of depositional landforms in Jiwoo drainage basin which located in the most upstream reach of Namgang River. Through the analysis of morphologic characteristics and sedimentary facies, the formative processes can be summarized as follow: First, the high depositional landforms(Sapyeong, Eungam, Naedongdyttle site) were formed by gelifluction process in the periglacial environment during the last glacial period. And the relative height over river bed of them is getting lower from upper to downstream. The extent of the high depositional landforms is assumed about 1 kilometer downstream far from the confluence of Jiwoo stream and Namgang River. Second, the sediments in the gentle slope at Jangseungbuldle were carried by gelifluction process during the last glacial stage after the deep-weathered bedrock had formed a gentle slope. Third, the high depositional landforms were dissected during warm and humid environment of postglacial stage, and some sediments of them were left in the river bed. Later, as the more upstream high depositional landforms were dissected completely, stream power was getting more than resistance(sediment storage) and the low depositional landforms(Sapyeong, Yongchusa, Deungbangdle site) were formed.
This study is to develop the suitable hydrologic models for determination of the size and location of detention storage facilities to restrain stormwater runoff in urban areas. Fictitious areas of two levels are considered to seize the hydrologic response characteristics. A one-square-kilometer area is selected for the catchment level, and a 10-square-kilometer area consisting of 10 catchments is adapted at the watershed level as representative of urban drainage area. In this analysis, different rainfall frequencies, land uses, drainage patterns, basin shapes and detention storage policies are considered. Flow reduction effect of detention storage facilities is deduced from storage ratio and detention basin factor. A substantial saving in detention storage volumes is achieved when the detention storage is planned at the watershed level than the catchment level. For the application of real watersheds, two watersheds in Seoul metropolitan area-Jamshil 2, Seongnae 1-are selected on the basis of hydrologic response characteristics. Through the regression analysis between dimensionless detention storage volume, dimensionless upstream area ratio and reduction rate of storage ratio, the regression equations to determine the size and location of detention storage facilities are presented.

Total length of stream networks and main stream length vary with topographic map scales, and the stream length of drainage basin on topographic map can be viewed as a fractal. Total length of stream network and main stream length are represented as only stream area ratio($R_a$) based on Horton's laws, thereafter the fractal dimensions of stream network and main stream length are derived as a simple function of stream length($R_L$) and stream area ratios($R_a$) respectively. The derived equations of fractal dimension are applied to Sansung basin in Kum River and compared with the equations already existed. The stream network appeared as space filling with fractal dimension near 2 as map scale increases, while main stream length shows near 1. The results of this study are expected to be helpful in the quantitative analysis of drainage network composition with map scale.
From the direct outflow of Chungju Dam to the junction of water body and watershed in Paldang lake is the scope of this research. This study performed to investigate the main cause of water quality deterioration and the influenced region in the middle field range of the Namhan river Basin with the onsite measurement of water quality and flow rate simultaneously during spring dry season. The purpose of this study is to find out the time-spatial variation characteristics of water quality and flow rate. Following the flow direction $BOD_5$ and $COD_{Mn}$ concentration increased to the highest value of 3.7 mg/L, 5.9 mg/L at Wolgesa respectively. Chl.a concentration increased to $50mg/m^3$ or so at Kangsang, after that it decreased to $37mg/m^3$ at the junction of Paldang lake. Organic matter concentration variation trend showed similar than that of Chl.a. Also $BOD_5$ concentration tendency was similar to Chl.a in every measuring sites except Paldang lake mixing zone. The major factors of water quality deterioration in Namhan river and Paldang lake during dry season were algal bloom and followed internal production. High phosphorus load from Dalcheon and Seom river caused dry season algal bloom and internal production in transitional zone which was stagnant area in downstream of Namhan river.

In this study, vulnerability of water resources to climate change was assessed in terms of flood, drought and water management. Criteria and indicators were employed for assessing the vulnerability. The criteria used to assess the vulnerability was sensitivity of the study area, the exposure to climate and the adaptability to climate change. These criteria were quantified and standardized using corresponding indicators. Vulnerability of water resources to climate change is assessed to be generally increasing over time. The appropriate watershed scales are the large drainage basin for national level vulnerability assessment and the small drainage basin for local one.
The Brazos River is one of the longest rivers contained entirely in the state of Texas, flowing over 700 miles from northwest Texas to the Gulf of Mexico. Today, the Brazos River Authority and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality interest in drought protection plan, waterpower project, and allowing the appropriation of water system-wide and water right within the Brazos River Basin to meet water needs of customers like farmers and local civilians in the future. Especially, this purpose of this paper primarily intended to provide the data for the engineering guidelines and make easily geological mapping tool. In the Brazos River basin, many stream-flow gage station sites are not working, and they can not provide stream-flow data sets enough for development of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) for use in the evaluation of proposed and existing dams and other impounding structures. Integrated GIS-Spatial Interpolation (GIS-SI) tool are composed of two parts; (1) extended GIS technique (new making interface for hydrological regionalization parameters plus classical GIS mapping skills), (2) Spatial Interpolation technique using weighting factors from kriging method. They are obtained from the relationship among location and elevation of geological watershed and existing stream-flow datasets. GIS-SI technique is easily used to compute parameters which get drainage areas, mean daily/monthly/annual precipitation, and weighted values. Also, they are independent variables of multiple linear regressions for simulation at un gaged stream-flow sites. In this study, GIS-SI technique is applied to the Brazos river basin in Texas. By assuming the ungaged flow at the sites of Palo Pinto, Bryan and Needville, the simulated daily/monthly/annual time series are compared with observed time series. The simulated daily/monthly/annual time series are highly correlated with and well fitted to the observed times series.
