This study aims at developing an artificial neural network(ANN)-based predictive and adaptive temperature control method to control the openings at internal and external skins, and heating systems used in a building with double skin envelope. Based on the predicted indoor temperature, the control logic determined opening conditions of air inlets and outlets, and the operation of the heating systems. The optimization process of the initial ANN model was conducted to determine the optimal structure and learning methods followed by the performance tests by the comparison with the actual data measured from the existing double skin envelope. The analysis proved the prediction accuracy and the adaptability of the ANN model in terms of Root Mean Square and Mean Square Errors. The analysis results implied that the proposed ANN-based temperature control logic had potentials to be applied for the temperature control in the double skin envelope buildings.
A photoelectric dimming control system for a small private office space with a double skin envelope system was analyzed for the purpose of examining optimum control performances under a variety of daylight conditions. Computer simulations were performed for the three different photosensor types positioned at the center of ceiling in the space. They were applied in both a south and north-facing room. Daylight conditions were a fixed horizontal venetian blind on an external envelope and a retractable shading device on an internal envelope under a clear, intermediate and overcast sky at different times of a day and year. Partially-shielded photosensors provided good control performances providing the required electric light output under clear and intermediate sky conditions. Unshielded photosensors failed to provide necessary illuminance levels producing less electric output and fully-shielded photosensors generally provided excessive light output. Reasonable electric lighting energy savings were achieved except under overcast sky conditions where the control system did not contribute to energy savings due to the less daylight through envelopes. The retractable shading device covering 50% of the internal envelope reduced energy savings up to 19.62%, but the workplane illuminance levels were maintained within recommended ranges. The coefficients of determination between workplane illuminance and photosensor illuminance due to daylight ranged from 0.74 to 0.98. Partially-shielded conditions provided best correlations and the north-facing room yielded stronger correlation than the south-facing room.
Double skin façade is known that several features affected the building energy and daylighting performance. That is why the envelope is able to consist of all architectural materials such as glass, aluminum, wood and insulation for vision of residents and workers in buildings. Its specifications is very diverse according to the building designers and building owners. In recent times, visual environment became a major focus and resulted in the development of cutting edge engineering of diverse glazing systems and shading devices by growing interests of friendly environment. Thus this research has evaluated the fluctuations of interior lighting and atmospheric conditions based on double skin facade systems. Especially in terms of daylighting environment as dependent on solar variations, this research provides quantitative analysis of interior lighting conditions and how it affects the living conditions as well as improve the design of interior spaces.
Roof and exterior wall of general formal buildings are designed and constructed through design focused exterior wall system and drainage and waterproof roof system. However, there are no classification of exterior wall and roof in freeform buildings and they are integrated as a surface of freeform buildings. Therefore it is necessary to develop the dry roof construction method using double skin roof system satisfying the design and function of the envelope. In this study, we have an effort to develop construction method of double-skin roof system using metal panel and PV.
Besides genuine skin and clothes, it is called that building is third skin for us. That means the skin of buildings is the most important factor for our man-made environment. The issues in designing the building envelope include the insulation, infiltration, ventilation and bridging in windows. Getting light into the space safely and providing views to outdoor, additionally, are key things with the building envelope design. A deep-rooted preference for full view is still alive with large area of glass. Balcony expansion is legalized in apartment houses, which causes lots of environmental problems. Without balcony space, the adjacent space to unshaded window is exposed to the direct sun. A window can have many layers and the inner space can be utilized with an automatic blind system. Recently, the refurbished version of a double-glazed window system has been developed for the purpose of minimizing energy loss occurred around windows. For the better daylight control with equipped blind system, a set of adjustment technique of blind slats was tested in a mock-up building and recommended the detail operation. Not surprisingly, the optimized blind system can be oriented to enhance the uniformity in light distribution and direct glare from the sky as well..
Double skin facade(DSF) ventilated by fans consists of a normal external and an internal envelope. In this glass layer, the installed fan replaces an air inlet for the control of air flow through the cavity. The purpose of this paper is to investigate physical theory and to analyze the applicability of fans installed in a DSF. The experiment was conducted in 2 rooms. One room has a DSF with installed fans and the other one has a typical window. The room ventilated through a DSF which fans are installed was always kept warmer than the other room, ventilated directly from the outdoors. The average increase of the supplied air temperature through the DSF ventilated by fans was $6.54^{\circ}C$ at 78CMH, $6.2^{\circ}C$ at 95CMH, and $3.7^{\circ}C$ at 120CMH. As a result, the DSF with installed fans was appropriate for installation in rooms. It supplies outdoor fresh air heated through a cavity and ventilates a constant air volume.
Daylight dimming control system was analyzed for an indirect lighting system in a small office space with a double skin envelope system. Computer simulations were performed for photosensors with three shielding conditions. The photosensors were placed on the center of ceiling, and backwall. Three sky conditions defined by CIE were considered. Overall, control performance was not very excellent for all conditions. Fully-shielded photosensor achieved good control performance for some cases, but partially-shielded and unshielded photosensors failed to achieve target illuminance. The variation in desktop illuminance due to daylight was examined for a variety of daylight conditions. Linear correlation between desktop illuminance and photosensor illuminance was analyzed using ANOVA.
From the research which sees the building which uses a natural control method with ecological architecture, continuity tried to divide the building which uses a physical control method with sustainable architecture. Ecological architecture analyzes the microclimate of the area and applies mining and natural ventilation leads and that the interior environment controls, the condition of the site actively and there is a possibility of seeing. Also sustainable architecture which is possible to lead and recycling and reuse of the resources and energy cyclic process of the construction resources to lead and the interior environment to control. Therefore the case where the facility system and structural system become integrated design organically in natural circulating method is many. Specially the sunshade system and double skin system are combined and structural system of the building and there is a possibility of having the envelope which form is feature. Today the buildings lead and the system integration process where the integral parts are systematic is demanded the interior environment which and an external form and that, they make they are there is a possibility of seeing. the environmental building which hits joins in with natural control method and the structure and facility system are integrated and has the tendency which is developed and there is a possibility of saying that a meaning with the alternative construction will be able to reduce the resources and an energy.
This study examines the influence of control algorithms on dimming performance to determine appropriate control setting when direct/indirect lighting is controlled by a daylight dimming system. Computer simulation were performed for a small office with double skin envelope under various daylight conditions. A retractable fabric shading and Venetian blind were applied for internal and external envelopes under three CIE standard sky conditions. Unshielded and partially-shielded photosensors were used, and three control algorithms were applied for the sensors. In general, dimming level was too excessive due to the direct impact of light from lighting fixture to the photosensor. Providing insufficient lighting output, the unshielded photosensor completely failed to secure required illuminance under any daylight condition. When a partially-shielded photosensor was applied under clear sky, three setting points functioned effectively. Less sensitivity for the partially-shielded photosensor was effective to control the dimming system optimally with reasonable energy saving. However, the daylight dimming control system for direct/indirect lighting does not appear to be energy effective when photosensors without enough shielded area is installed on ceiling where light from fixtures reaches directly.
