Studies on the Function of Peroxidasins in Innate Immune System in C. elegans

  • Peroxidasin is a unique member of peroxidase family in that it has extracellular matrix (ECM) motif as well as peroxidase activity. Peroxidasins are involved in consolidation the extracellular matrix during development and in innate immune defense. C. elegans has two functional peroxidasins, PXN-1 and PXN-2, and PXN-2 is known to contribute to innate immune system. However, it is not clear of PXN-1 function in innate immune system. Therefore, this study is focused on the function of PXN-1 and the relationship between PXN-1 and PXN-2 in innate defense system in C. elegans. When pxn-1 was knocked down by RNAi, the worm turned to be more resistant to pathogens, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the enhanced resistance was abolished in pxn-1pxn-2 double knock down. By contrast, pxn-2 knock down showed stronger susceptibility to the pathogens. These results suggest that pxn-2 can contribute the pathogen resistance and pxn-1 can suppress the pathogen resistance. To confirm the idea, overexpression experiments were performed. Overexpression of pxn-1 showed more susceptible to pathogens compared to the control and double overexpression of pxn-1pxn-2 overcame the susceptibility of pxn-1 overexpression to the pathogens. On the other hand, pxn-2 overexpression made the worm more resistant to the pathogens and the resistance was maintained in pxn-1pxn-2 double overexpression. The comparison of the susceptibilities to the bacterial pathogens in above mentioned constructs suggests that PXN-1 suppress the function of PXN-2 in defense against bacterial pathogens in Caenorhabditis elegans.

  • 등가 전송선로에 기초한 모드 전송선로 이론 (Modal Transmission-Line Theory: MTLT)을 이용하여 이중 샌드위치 Rib-형 층으로 구성된 나노 크기의 격자 구조형 편광 무의존성 결합기 (Grating-Assisted Polarization-Insensitive Coupler: GA-PIC)의 편광특성을 자세하게 분석하였다. 제안한 나노 크기의 GA-PIC의 편광 무의존성 조건을 얻기 위하여 샌드위치 rib형 층의 굴절률과 두께에 따라 변하는 quasi-TE 모드와 quasi-TM 모드의 결합길이를 분석하였으며, 격자구조의 광학적 변수들인 격자두께와 격자주기에 따른 결합길이의 영향도 분석하였다. 수치해석 결과, 수백 나노미터 크기의 GA-PIC는 이중 샌드위치 층과 격자구조의 구조적, 물질적 변수들을 잘 선택함으로써 구현할 수 있음을 보였다.

수치해석에 의한 터널 복공의 역학적 거동 및 균열 특성에 관한 연구 (On Mechanical Behavior and Cracking Characteristics of Tunnel Lining by Numerical Analysis)

  • Nemerical algorithms were developed to analyze the behavior of the double lining as well as ground mass separately or simultaneously. A lining interface element was especially developed, verified and applied to the study on the coupled interaction of shotcrete and the concrete lining. It could be known fro parameter studys on double lining support systems that as the contact surface between shotcrete and concrete lining was rougher, the more decreased bearing capacity against the cracking of the system. If the thickness of the shotcrete increased, the bearing capacity of the double lining also increased linearly with the thickness. If the thickness of the concrete lining increased, the bearing capacity of the double lining had the relationship of the characteristic S-shape of a sigmoid function with the thickness. When the thickness increased over a given value, it was not useful to increase more the thickness because bearing capacity had no remarkable change. It could be concluded that the behavior of the shotcrete and concrete lining was generally reversed before and after the ratio of horizontal to vertical earth preassure of 1.0 and 0.5 respectively. Therefore, we could guess that the movement which two shotcrete and concrete lining deflect toward each other around the crown caused a friction between two linings and thus this disadvantageous effect could contribute to reducing the bearing capacity against the cracking.

DDIC 칩의 정전기 보호 소자로 적용되는 GG_EDNMOS 소자의 고전류 특성 및 더블 스냅백 메커니즘 분석 (High Current Behavior and Double Snapback Mechanism Analysis of Gate Grounded Extended Drain NMOS Device for ESD Protection Device Application of DDIC Chip)

  • 본 논문에서는 고전압에서 동작하는 DDIC(display driver IC) 칩의 정전기 보호소자로 사용되는 GG_EDNMOS 소자의 고전류 특성 및 더블 스냅백 메커니즘이 분석되었다. 이온주입 조건을 달리하는 매트릭스 조합에 의한 수차례의 2차원 시뮬레이션 및 TLP 특성 데이타를 비교한 결과, BJT 트리거링 후에 더블 스냅백 현상이 나타났으나 웰(well) 및 드리프트(drift) 이온주입 조건을 적절히 조절함으로써 안정적인 ESD 보호성능을 얻을 수 있었다. 즉, 최적의 백그라운드 캐리어 밀도를 얻는 것이 고전압 동작용 정전기보호소자의 고전류 특성에 매우 중요한 영향을 주는 임계인자(critical factor)임을 알 수 있었다.

  • 인삼이 노령자의 피로 및 쇠약 치료효과에 미치는 영향을 연구하기 위해 런던의 성프란시스병원과 지방의 일반 개업 병인으로부터 50명의 노인들을 모집하였다. 매일 2g의 홍삼 분말을 이중맹검법에 의하여 10일간 투약하였으며. 위약과 홍삼 분말의 투여는 3주간의 간격을 두고 각기 투여하였다. 간호원이 10가지 정신측정 종합테스트와 심리측정 테스트를 하였고, 기분상태 및 일반적인 건강평가를 설문지로 측정하였다 이 측정을 홍삼 및 위약의 투여기간을 전후하여 실시하였다. 즉, 각각의 테스트를 모두 4번 실시하였다. 심리측정 테스트와 정신측정 종합테스트 결과 홍삼의 투여는 위약과는 달리, 미약하나마 일관성있는 증가를 가져왔다. 그러나 기분상태 및 일반적인 건강 평가는 별 변화가 없었다. 결론적으로 인삼은 강장효과를 갖는다 할 수 있다. 노인병 치료를 평가함에 있어 시도방법 및 기간 등에 의하여 약효의 평가가 모호해지는 경우가 종종 있다. 보다 적절한 임상시험법에 대하여 토론하고자 한다.

Development and Usability Test of Baby Vest Prototypes with a Body Temperature Sensing Function

  • This study developed a vest prototype capable of monitoring body temperature using textile electrodes to prevent the sudden death of babies as well as to determine the quality of developed products by evaluating usability with commercial products. Based on the results of the 7th Size Korea Project, a basic pattern for a vest prototype was drafted by applying the average size of two-year-old Korean babies. Two prototypes were the detachable (VEST I) and integrated textile electrodes vest type (VEST II), which followed the same design. The materials were 100% cotton single jersey (SJ) and double jersey (DJ). Six experts evaluated the usability of the developed vests (VEST I & VEST II) and commercial product (VEST M). The single-layer woven textile electrode appeared to have a slightly higher conductivity than the double-layer one. There was no statistical difference in the body temperature sensing function between VEST I and VEST II. Finally, the superiority of the VEST I was verified through a comparison with commercial products (VEST M). The usability test suggested that a wearable smart clothing system of the integrated conductive textile could be further commercialized for bio-monitor applications in Ubiquitous-health care.

기질의 공극성의 이중 도공 구조에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Substrate Porosity on Double Coating Structure)

  • The process of double coating consists of bottom coating using relatively coaser pigments to improve characteristics of base paper and top coating using finer pigments to cover unevenness of the bottom coating and to give various function of the coated paper. The structure of precoating is influenced not only by its components, but also characteristics of base paper, Moreover pore size and its size distribution of precoating are expected to influence the top coating properties, but this is not well understood. Coating and printing operations involve the application of pigmented fluid on top of a porous substrate. The porosity of the substrate has been shown to influence the properties of the coating, but a good understanding of the mechanisms is lacking in the literature. The role of pore size and void volume on top coating structure is unclear.

  • 고밀도 잠열축열장치의 최적설계와 효율적인 작동을 위해서는 그 전열특성과 축열효율이 규명되어야 한다. 본 연에서는 수직이중관형 잠열축열장치의 방열과정에서의 전열특성을 이론 및 실험적으로 분석하였으며 두 결과는 잘 일치하였다. 그리고 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통하여 방열효율에 대한 설계 및 작동피라미터의 영향을 분석하였다.

Dual Sampling-Based CMOS Active Pixel Sensor with a Novel Correlated Double Sampling Circuit

  • In this paper, we propose a 4-transistor active pixel sensor(APS) with a novel correlated double sampling(CDS) circuit for the purpose of extending dynamic range. Dual sampling techniques can overcome low-sensitivity and temporal disparity problems at low illumination. To accomplish this, two images are obtained at the same time using different sensitivities. The novel CDS circuit proposed in this paper contains MOS switches that make it possible for the capacitance of a conventional CDS circuit to function as a charge pump, so that the proposed APS exhibits an extended dynamic range as well as reduced noise. The designed circuit was fabricated by using $0.35{\mu}m$ 2-poly 4-metal standard CMOS technology and its characteristics have been evaluated.

Nonlinear vibration analysis of a type of tapered cantilever beams by using an analytical approximate method

  • In this paper, an alternative analytical method is presented to evaluate the nonlinear vibration behavior of single and double tapered cantilever beams. The admissible lateral displacement function satisfying the geometric boundary conditions of a single or double tapered cantilever beam is derived by using Rayleigh-Ritz method. Based on the Lagrange method and the Newton Harmonic Balance (NHB) method, analytical approximate solutions in closed and explicit form are obtained. These approximate solutions show excellent agreement with those of numeric method for small as well as large amplitude. Moreover, due to brevity of expressions, the present analytical approximate solutions are convenient to investigate effects of various parameters on the large amplitude vibration response of tapered beams.
