  • Kiefer (1961) studied asymptotic behavior of empirical distribution using the law of the iterated logarithm. Robertson and Wright (1974a) discussed whether this type of result would hold for a maximum likelihood estimator of a stochastically ordered distribution function; however, we show that this cannot be achieved. We provide only a partial answer to this problem. The result is applicable to both estimation and testing problems under the restriction of stochastic ordering.

  • Voltage sags are the most widespread quality issues affecting distribution systems. This paper describes in some detail the voltage sag characteristics due to different types and locations of fault in a practical low voltage power distribution system encountered in the UK. The results not only give utility engineers very useful information when identifying parts of the system most likely to pose problems for customer equipments, but also assist the facility personnel to make decisions on purchasing power quality mitigation equipment.

  • When we have an i.i.d. sample of size n from a continuous distribution, the distribution truncated on the left at the rth order statistic plays an important role in the theoretical analysis of the Type 2 censored data. The charaterization of distributions by the average of the conditional expectation and the average of the conditional information concerning the truncated distribution is studied here.

  • The Weibull distribution is a good candidate for accurate probabilistic model with its rich shape-forming ability and relatively simple CDF(cumulative distribution function). If there are sufficient information to get convincible mean and variance for a probabilistic event, reliable parameters of the Weibull distribution can be determined uniquely. However, sufficient information is not given as usual. There needs more deliberate model building method for that case. This Paper presents an effective parameter estimation technique for Weibull distribution with limited failure data.

  • The well-known mode-mean-median inequality for the unimodal population distribution does not always hold for the frequency distribution. But many elementary statistics text books just mention that the relative location of the mean and median can be used to determine whether a distribution is positively or negatively skewed. In this paper we introduce the method generating data that is positively skewed but mean

  • A Gauss map of m-dimensional distribution on a Riemannian manifold M is called a harmonic Gauss map if it is a harmonic map from the manifold into its Grassmann bundle $G_m$(TM) of m-dimensional tangent subspace. We calculate the tension field of the Gauss map of m-dimensional distribution and especially show that the Hopf fibrations on $S^{4n+3}$ are the harmonic Gauss map of 3-dimensional distribution.

  • We study the geometry of half light like submanifold M of a semi-Riemannian space form $\bar{M}$(c) subject to the conditions : (a) the screen distribution on M is totally umbilic in M and the coscreen distribution on M is conformal Killing on $\bar{M}$ or (b) the screen distribution is totally geodesic in M and M is irrotational.

  • A new bivariate beta distribution based on the Appell function of the third kind is introduced. Various representations are derived for its product moments, marginal densities, marginal moments, conditional densities and conditional moments. The method of maximum likelihood is used to derive the associated estimation procedure as well as the Fisher information matrix.

  • We consider a single server multi-class queueing model with Poisson arrivals and relative priorities. For this queue, we derive a system of equations for the transform of the queue length distribution. Using this system of equations we find the moments of the queue length distribution as a solution of linear equations.
